​@@maryporter5155 there are some pretty close silk imitators out there. Not all silk is shiny and smooth either. I have a couple silk dresses that isnt. Silk road merchants burn their silk to show their customers its real. It's not as easy to tell real silk from fakes by touch like cotton or wool. Theres 1 sure way to figure out if a dress is real silk though. If it's over 45 years old and still looks amazing, it's probably real silk. I'll probably pass my moms silk dresses down to the next generation.

The point in knowing how the fabrics burn is if you are wearing a polyester shirt and it catches fire it will melt and stick to you while a silk shirt will turn to Ash and fall away. You will get a worse burn in plastic cloth than organic cloth.
