I would recommend parting your hair while you're in the shower, or before going into the shower. The water can flatten it down so that one side isn't more raised than the other. My hair's primarily parted to the left, but lately I've been into the middle parting, and this really works for me.

Regarding your aching arms,lol, I've found it much easier on my lifelong arthritic joints to lay on the bed,diagonally so the bed corner supports my neck and head, hair hanging off the edge. One super easy thing is side part it and the side with more hair you take it at the front and braid it. You can also braid your hair and use Bobby pins to hold it back.
