Layering sounds. I kind of know it should happen. Especially on the high frequencies. And also bass. Skrillex had long sustain synths under the plucks and sub bass doubling the bass. Even if the sub doesn't have to play different notes it adds thickness to the bass. And the sizzling on the high end is in almost every modern record. Even in metal. Like in Demolition by Judas Priest. I don't know what they did on the record but there was some extra noise on the guitars. What did they do is probably a production secret but it doesn't matter. It's there.
