Really neat idea to use something like a scarf to wrap the present. It's like a 2 in 1!

Re: Christmas cards with touching personal messages, consider scanning the card or even snapping a picture of it before recycling it. I always save the gift bags we're given for every occasion so I can reuse them. I'll even save the tissue paper that gets stuffed into them and reuse it until it's worn out or accidentally thrown out. I try not to use wrapping paper, but now I'll start using brown paper when needed. I've always brought my own Tupperware to my big family holiday meals for leftovers, but I'm ashamed to say I've never considered bringing my own dinnerware before. Time to change that this year! I'm a fairly new subscriber, having found you through Wendy, and I just love your bubbly personality so I wanted to see some of what you do on your own, too. 🤗

Great idea to scan the cards! I'm going to do that from now on. Welcome to the family! 😘

regarding the gift-wrapping: If you've got basic sewing skills you could DIY a fabric gift bag! I do that and its incredibly nice and my family loves it! Simply use scrap-fabric (or buy christmassy-themed one), sew on a nice fabric ribbon and bam. A Giftbag that can be used over and over and over and over and over again!

I just saw that! I'm going to DIY some for sure

Glad I found this video. We are trying to move into the sustainable and useful product field and your video gives us ideas. Business does not offer a lot of practical sources, but we are trying. A small step in the right direction is our goal and your video gave us here some encouragement. Thank you.

I also thrifted my reusable christmas tree! A more natural way to get the pine scent would be to get some evergreen twigs from outside and make a pot pourri out of them 😊

Whenever I get cute fluffy socks , backpack, or t-shirts for little girls 🧦, I would stuff them with Barbie outfits/accessories as their Xmas gifts & just tie small scrunchies or hair-bows as a Xmas bow decoration 👧🏻🎀 . ( this idea is suitable for little girls who have Barbie/dolls or who love playing dress up . This saves wrapping paper & the little girl gets a toy & a useful everyday item at the same time 👍❤️ )

We use the same tinsel for over 20 years and it still is in pretty good condition It's just like that most of the people are often to lazy to carefully handpick all of the tinsel form the tree

Ive decided to keep a natural looking decor and just add small elements like christmas decorations ive had forever like my tree angel from the early 70's. My tree is a fake 2' potted one with lights from home depot that i can keep year round as a patio light tree. I like the edible decorations like bowls of candy with more very old decorations. Christmas cards are always kept and strung together to make one long card garland that i use as a decoration in memory of the ones who send them from afar. Use them for crafting new decor you can use every year.

Youre crafty, create an angel from a doll. Look in old photos for ideas. Most toppers are all the same junk now. :(

I like your idea of BYOP (bring your own plate and cutlery) especially bc tonight im going to a family party and I know there's gonna be paper plates, plastic cutlery, napkins, and it'll all be thrown into a giant garbage bag with leftover food. it hurt my heart to see it last year but at least my aunt let us take home ziplocs of leftover snacks. tonight I'm gonna bring my own plate, cutlery, reusable cloth napkin, and tupperware for leftovers. My tip for anyone who is forced to use plastic cutlery at a party: TAKE IT HOME WITH YOU! you'll at least feel a little better without ruining Christmas by bringing up politics and climate change with your super Canadian hunting/logging cousins..
@letitiakiu4 жыл бұрын
Yesss haha. Sometimes family may not understand and I'm a firm believer of not shoving eco stuff in people's faces. They'll end up getting defensive and then a big political argument is just waiting to happen then 😬 enjoy your dinner tonight!

@@letitiakiu thanks for the reply and it was a great early dinner/party overall :) I did bring cutlery lol no fights entailed. the only person to talk political was my sweet little italian grandma haha and my aunt sent leftovers home to us again woohooo

This video was really "Bah Humbug"-ey. It made me sad. Instead of doing away with Christmas cards and wrapping paper, how about using biodegradable or recycled or recylable or compostable or non-tree versions? If everyone stopped using cards and wrap, just think of how many artists would lose their jobs! Giftware companies employ a lot of artists. I don't want to ruin the planet either, but also love the little bits of art that come with celebrating Christmas, like wrap and cards. It adds to the festivity. I think instead of doing away with these traditions, we should challenge ourselves to think of alternate ways to produce them that don't lead to planet degradation.
@letitiakiu4 жыл бұрын
I definitely feel very Grinch-y this year. I agree, supporting artists is a great thing, and if you love the sentiments, totally do your thing! Thing is that bio-plastics are actually not as biodegradable as they advertise to be, and in the instance of holiday related things, I would personally rather forego it. In other things outside of the holidays, I'm all for purchasing eco-friendly products! Hell, I even buy non sustainable things on a regular basis, but I'm trying to do my part.
