I have and use the Outdoor Edge frequently and like its compact form and simplicity. Will look for the 3.0 onyx.

I have used the Fastback, WorkPro, Edge, and Gerber. The Edge and Gerber both opened in the pocket and the Edge blade pushes back in when under high load so they are out of the running. The Fastback is nice but not really EDC but an on the job all day tool. It is my favorite even though bulky. The best so far for the pocket is the button lock version of the WorkPro utility knife which is light, tough, and fairly ergonomic with quick change on the blade and one hand open and close. It will not open in the pocket unintentionally and a fantastic value. The pocket clip is excellent also. Additionally carried with keys on an Orbit key organizer is a Chums keychain pry bar with Phillips, flathead and cap lifter.

I carried the Gerber EAB Lite for a long time and quite reliable. For one hand operation I'd put a bit of grip tape. Later, I added a dab of KPL, and am able to open it easily with a flick of the wrist. I own a TPT Slide, and it's great for one hand operation and common use. However, I have recently bought the TiRant Razer V3 and it is much better for breaking down cardboard boxes. The drawback is the price but well worth it if actually used as intended.

I've been drooling over that TiRant Razor. One day I'll bite the bullet. Great ideas with the Gerber eab. I'll have to give them a shot. Thank you Miya!!

If gerber added a deep carry clip option to that green one it would be a slam dunk

From what I understand they did add a pocket clip to the Gerber. I don't know if it is deep Pocket though. But I wholeheartedly agree.

I've have the Milwaukee fastback and have constantly used it for work. But for a lighter, slimmer option, I've liked the Husky Retractable 2-blade model.

You're not the first to mention the Husky. I'll have to definitely check it out.

I've been using the Gerber Prybrid for about a year and a half at work. It works great for me, I like that it is a little more heavy duty. I use the TPT slide around the house, but for the money the prybrid works harder in my opinion.

Very good video of the small compact knives, thank you. I use the Gerber EAB and the green prybid at the end and like them both. I like the size and feel of both and not bothered by the 2 hand opening with the EAB. I see it as being more an “intentional” opening and thus paying more attention to what I’m doing so no accidental cuts, it that makes sense.

Very good point. For some reason I keep trying to open the Prybrid upside and inevitably poking myself.

The idea for that odd bit is to put it on your key chain and use the tool as a driver if you need the added torque.

I bought the Prybid X yesterday and literally returned it. The blade requires a lot of force to push the blade out. My guess is that there's quality control issues. You'd figure before shipping these out, someone would test these before putting the box on them. Such a shame too as it theoretically would have been an amazing edc tool otherwise. My current EDC blade ironically is something like a hobby blade, it's the Slice 10515. But I swear by them. I have like 6 of them in all areas of the house. I'd love something like the Fastback if it looked more sleek and it was 1/2 the size, ie the design of James or the design of Big Idea Design or the design of Quiet Carry
@SurvivingtheDaily
@SurvivingtheDaily Жыл бұрын
I agree with the quality. You would think it would be better. Its not very smooth pushing the blade out.
@Dracomies
@Dracomies Жыл бұрын
@@SurvivingtheDaily After watching your video I realized you have a technique of pushing it back and forth. I didn't think of doing that. That might work better. But dang I wish it could just open smoothly like the Slice knife. I was super intrigued by the pry bar at the end. That, in theory, could kill 2 birds with one stone and save space on an EDC pouch kit. Such a shame. Gerber is always like this. They have cool ideas. But can't execute. Same thing with the Gerber Armbar Slim. Awesome idea. But non-locking screwdriver is a deal-breaker. So easy to fix if they cared. Or just imagine if they made the Gerber Dime in Titanium and sold at a premium. People would actually buy it. Sigh. So close and yet so far as always :P

I returned an Outdoor Edge because the plastic and spring just felt so janky. If you like this style, get a 2 pack of Hart 4 in 1 utility knives from Walmart. same concept but made of aluminum and $9 for a two pack. Harbor Freight also sells a mini utility knife from Pittsburgh for $5. Small handy package opener. Totally off the YT radar is a Japanese Kiridashi Craft Pocket Knife for $12 on Amazon. Basically this is a Japanese utility knife, which differs from all these with disposable blades. The Japanese make theirs with a 2mm thick black that is resharpenable, but it's a good utility knife. They prefer a better blade in a simple sleeve rather than cheap disposable blades. It's an interesting difference and an easy carry.

Thank you sir! I now have the Kiridashi in my Amazon cart. I do not know why but I always look at those Hart utility knives but then walk away. Maybe I need to pull the trigger one of these days.

I really like the new Work Pro Button Lock utility knives. I always have one on me. I have a few of the Outdoor Edge Sidewinders, but the action gets gummed up after a while and requires disassembly and cleaning.

Hi- Do you have a recommendation of something that, no matter the size, can pass TSA? I feel kind of naked everytime I fly.
@SurvivingtheDaily
@SurvivingtheDaily 3 ай бұрын
If it were me, I'd carry the Milwaukee Fastback 6-in-1 (disposing of the blade before the flight) in conjunction with the knipex cobra pliers. Otherwise, there is the Victorinox Jet Setter or the Nextool Mini Sailor Lite.

Do you have a favorite low profile one with a pocket clip? Something that won't accidentally open in a pocket if your thumb hits the push button when you go to grab it out of your pocket?
@SurvivingtheDaily

My favorite is ScrewPop Ron's Utility Knife 3.0. I can get you the link if you need it. It's as low profile as you can get but keep in mind, it's medium-light duty.
