Thanks for the shout out! You could definitely do the a/c the same way, vintage air did update their heater lines on the heater box so you will have to add an adapter instead of just cutting off the barbs. The new lines are much shorter. I do like retaining the factory parts when possible so if ever want to return to original it can be done. Good luck on your project

Thanks for the info! A couple of things I haven't looked at. I happen to have a few Camaro's. 1969 z/ rs clone, real 1971, 1972, 1974 , 1979's, and 1981's real z/28's. Most of which I've owned since the early 80's. Growing up. I was disappointed when GM quit selling the z cars in 1975 and 1976, and was just lucky that friends had nice cars they wanted to sell. Also have 1975 and 1976 LT-1 Camaro's, plus a 89 tpi 350 IROC, some 93, 95 and 99 z/28s. They are not Collins type 1 owners, but I knew the owners that bought them fairly new, so about the 3rd or 4 owner. They were and still are drivers that I have tried my best to keep as original as possible. Changed the rear bumper on the 72 for a cleaner bumper, but kept the original and will get it fixed and restored now that I know this is more important than I realized.

I do not know about the 72 model but my 71 Z28 (real one) has the gas pedal hinged off of the floor. This is shown in the last few pages of the assembly manual. Also, the standard Z28 rear axle ratio was 3.73 to 1. Others could be had. My brother's 1970 (bought new) had a 4.10. A good source of info is the GM Heritage Center web site. They have information packages on most old GM cars.

I’ve been on Nasty Z28 since the 90’s, was even around for the great reset when the site had to be redone. And the info identifying real Z28’s is great. Mine are all 74 models. It’s a shame we have a problem with so many cars that are clones or people that try to sell as legit Z28 models that are fake. Facebook pages have many posts of people swapping vins and don’t know the law. And not everyone cares. That’s just bad for all buyers.

@@DoubleRRestorations My dad was a young 1st lieutenant in the Air Force and had originally ordered a ‘72 Z28 but it was one of the ones on the assembly line but never finished. He was able to track down another one. Thats the one he still has now. It has around 60k on the odometer since it started out a daily but didn’t stay that way for long. The original engine didn’t make it due to water leaking into the cylinders and he replaced it with a 406 a long time ago. The car made a huge impression on me growing up. The car was repainted “show quality” back in the 80s and would compete in ISCA indoor shows. He’s a vette guy now and the car is just a garage queen under a car cover now. The 72 Camaros were built in both Norwood Ohio and Van Nuys California. It is my understanding that only the Norwood cars got the Z28 on the trim tag as also the SS cars got the Z27 on the trim tag.The Van Nuys cars did not. It will also have NOR on the trim tag if it was built in Norwood. I have an original 72 SS Camaro with NOR and Z27 on the trim tag. And GM would never put A/C on a solid lifter engine equipped car with the exception of a few LT1 Vettes that got built on special orders. I worked for a guy back in 72 that bought one of those Vettes, LT1 with A/C. new.

I had a monza in high-school for a short time. It was a 2+2 with i think it was a 262 v8 i might be wrong bc honestly, im a Ford guy who likes and has owned a few chevys, an 89 iroc, and that monza A true car guy can appreciate a good thing from the other brands. But i know it was less than 300 cubic inch v8 .they have all had their wins, and they have all had their loses. So, to point out the bad when your shit talking is stupid bc they have all had bad motors, ugly looks, and cheap made crap at one point or the other. The 72 camero is my favorite with 3rd gen right behind that. I also was born in 72. When i was a teen, my dad almost bought a 72 z28 for me. It was a friend of mines dad's car. He was in prison and it was parked behind his grandparents' house. I saw the car and asked the deal? I showed it to my dad b4 we left. The only thing missing was the side pieces of the rear deck spoiler. The car had the believe it was called LT 1 with the factory aluminum intake and holley 4 barrel. Had the 4 speed. It had the z stripes. His grand pa agreed to sell it to us for 500 it ran when parked kinda deal. Anyway, the car was from Utah, and when we were looking at the car, my dad noticed the trunk pan was rusted out. Pops got scared the whole car was rusted from road salt, even though the engine alone was worth more than that, at the time we didnt have 500 extra laying around to buy a car for the engine so he backed out. The friends uncle bought it from the grandpa and got it running. After we moved away from there, my girlfriends dad, who was a camero guy told my dad and i that the second-generation cars were notoriuos for trunk rust. So very likely that z was fine and we could have just replaced trunk and been good. Story of my life back then day late dollar short.
