🌲ATTENTION🌲: Info about collecting the bark and the care of it once home. I collect the bark from the ground, I NEVER remove it off the living trees. I apologize if I didn't mention that. Once home I allow the bark to dry outside away from the elements such as rain I clean it off if necessary outside. At this point you can use a safe insecticide, as suggested by a viewer, to rid of any bugs or thier nests (same can be done for branches and fresh greens if need be). You can also place bark in oven on low heat to kill off bugs and mold spores that may be present. Please keep a close eye so the bark doesn't burn!!! I myself clean and cure my bark outside for awhile before I use it, and continue to dry it out inside in my dry basement if needed I would suggest that if you are concerned about bugs etc, then definitely do as mentioned earlier 😉 Hope this helps. @@dedeodell1016 Noticed that you did not get an answer, so I'd say that you can carefully, and watchfully put them in a low oven as well. Or submerge them into a pot of boiling water for a couple minutes alternatively. Then let them.dry in a warm dry place. Wishing you and yours a happy holiday season. 🍃🤗🍃

Thank you. I salvaged some pinecone and a little bark when we were on vacation in Virginia. I dried pinecones in oven but haven't done the bark. Now I will do that. The nest ornaments reminded me so much of my grandmama. She would make nest ornaments and attach a little note on each that said “There is a legend told by a seer. A nest on your tree brings a happy new year.” Thank you for bringing back the memory for me from so long ago

One more thing. Amazing that when I was a teenager, all this crafting was obsolete. I took sweet gum balls and spray painted them red, green and white. For some reason I think I remember doing some in silver in gold, but did they have silver and gold in spray paint back then. I loved being out doors and making things. I made tiny cabins out of bamboo. Used them for a church banquet when I was 18. I loved them all, but the cabin, at the end, it is absolutely beautiful and out of this world awesome.

I made this little Canvas Tree for my daughter to go with her Christmas. I had the pearls just like yours, and did the same as you. I didn't have any gold glitter paint but I did have silver. I cut out a star out of thin white cardboard and glued some tiny white pearls I had. I placed a tiny pine cone in the center of my star. It's so pretty. Exited to give it. I love the Christmas tree on canvas. I did some, but used a popsicle stick as my base to make the tree, added a red bow and twine hanger. I did 2 large ones about 18". I gathered twigs all year in a box for different crafts!!

I put this house together, I love it. One tip I learned, when taking off the embellishments, use a hot iron to heat up the glue, they came off very easy. I also put a chimney on top from a small tree branch. Looks perfect. Thanks for the idea!!!

I love all things nature. I forage as well for many of my crafts for my home. I am more farmhouse at our main house. We have a Pre-Civil War cabin too. We don't do electricity there so we keep things natural in Decor and use oil lamps for light. I would live there full time if he would. Lol

I use a 1/4 tsp. Bleach unscented per quart of water. It will make flowers and greenery last for weeks. I also worked as a florist.

Try spraying the branches with heavy hold hair spray and the pieces of snow will stay in place. I do this with all of my glitter ornaments, works everytime.

We have different Burch trees here. They have paper thin bark and it sheds to the ground and you just pick it up off the ground. On the canvas tree, what if you did use gobs of glue to hole on the lights very carefully in a bulb pattern and then paint each one in the colors you desire. Just a variation if you don’t have pearls. I might give it a try. Thanks for all your great ideas!!❤

How do you make sure you’re not bringing in bugs with your collected forest foliage?

Good question 😉 I collect bark and branches and leave them outside for quite awhile in a covered area that's protected from the elements. Then I'll bring them in to dry completely before I use them. You could place them in the over on a low temp to kill any remaining bugs that might be there, watch it closely though 😉 As far as the greens go, I leave them outside for a bit and shake them out before bringing them in. Most bugs aren't around anymore in the winter where I live, so it's not a big problem for me here. Hope that helps 🤗 Thanks for watching 💖

You can also spray them with an indoor pesticide or out some kind of herb around them that bugs don't like. Cinnamon and bay leaf run a bunch of bugs off. As far as the eggs that might hatch, that would require heat or cold. If you have a freezer, you can put stuff in a bag and place it in your freezer for a couple of days. I'm pretty careful with bringing stuff in. I gathered some greenery off several trees in our yard and made the prettiest swag over a large picture window we had. Turns out, there were red spider mites on it and they got into my indoor plants and oh, what a mess! We ended up having to bug bomb our house to get rid of those bugs! Yeah, I'm pretty careful to spray before I bring anything in, now!

Oh my goodness I could sit and watch you all day long you amaze me and I love everything that you create and oh my goodness this house is so adorable I have to do what I can to make one of my own even if I don’t have birchbark around my house here in Ohio🌲. Just to let you know, I use rock salt and Elmers glue. I put the Elmers glue onto the branches and then I roll it in the rock salt. It looks so pretty you may not like it but I just thought I’d give you a little tidbit information. I love the wreath so pretty and I love feathers.

I make this tree without the lights. I use some natural cotton and paint some dried crape myrtle buds a pearlized paint. I also used natural wooden frame! Don’t know if I can insert a photo but they are precious and all natural.
