This makes me so nostalgic! Modern games are more fun and life like than ever but something about a majority of 2000's/early 2010s games had so much love, soul, and personality put into them that some games lack now.

I'll give you life like but more fun? Not for the most part, at least not in the bigger AAA releases for me. You know, I went through a few systems trying to run that upon release and all struggled to get decent visuals and FPS, until I re-installed it years later with what today would be considered pre-historic hardware: I'm talking AMD Athlon 64 x2 and an nVidia Geforce 9600 GS with a whopping(!) 48 shaders and 768 MB DDR2 VRAM. Yet despite these ancient components this game ran with everything cranked to the absolute maximum, and it made me love it even more. And like you say, it's the sense of immersion that really draws me in; just standing on the beach, taking in the ambience, deciding which tactics you use to take down the upcoming enemies.. tons of landscape to explore. Lots of cool weapons, enemies, and different terrain. Just you against the elements and your enemy. One of my all-time favourites this one.

I hear you, I miss the abundance of good FPS games. Last decade only gave us a few really good shooters. Check out Metro Exodus if you haven't. Infact, the entire Metro series is a single player game in the same veins as the Half Life series. Go for the redux versions if you are planning on checking it out. Another game i would highly recommend is Prey (2017), i.e. if you enjoyed Bioshock 1 and Systemshock. It's a damn good spiritual successor to the latter two. And if you want some fast paced games like Doom (2016), then check out Shadow Warrior 2 and Rage 2. Rage 2 has a boring open world, but my god the COMBAT!! Once you unlock all the special abilities and weapons, the combat can actually be way better than Doom. But there are also some good shooters being released in the Indie game scene as well. Check out the youtube channel by Gmanlives, he reviews tons of FPS games like these and mainstream ones too.

There's the spinoff game Control. If you haven't played that, give it a go.

Ah yes I heard of it I didn't know Remedy made it, it looks quite interesting. I much more prefer these sort of games to run n gun stuff. Stuff with story and suspense.

@@XrisD147 Well, make no mistake Control has a lot of run and gun in it but also a lot of story and suspense, aswell as jaw-dropping visuals.

Jake i swear man you read my mind again. As I'm listening to the beginning of the clip you talking about what this video is about literally the 1st game that came to my mind was Mirrors Edge. I played it back in the day on my ps3 (which you know wasn't the best console for 3rd party titles) it run and looked beautiful. I can only imagine how good it looked on pc.

So good to see alan wake in the thumbnail. I haven't played that game in a long time, this brings back lots of good memories as this was one of the very few games i owned on the 360.

Thankyou for including Alan Wake... and such an underrated game! Although the graphics are on 360 are still totally solid, I'd love to see it with some 4k treatment, I'd totally buy it again. Keep up the great vids!

One game/s I miss are the condemned games. I really enjoyed the style of those games and the way they felt to play, it felt heavy and every swing felt tiring, personally I loved them at the time and I wish they got more love

I'm with you Jake, I loved the original Darksiders, too. I've played it 3 times: the first time with the 360 (it's what made me buy a console of that generation), then the remaster, then the backward compatible one. Still one of my fav games of all time.

The Warriors, Bully and most Rockstar games still hold up today. Also, idk if it’s nostalgia but the Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell games still look good to me

Seeing killzone on the list reminded me of Black which is even more impressive because not only does it look as good and sometimes even better, it has perfect sound design and destructible environment such that we don't see in games even today, and all of that on a PS2
