I just finished Little Thieves last night and loved it! The first book reads a bit like a standalone (or at least the adventure we're on in the book wraps up well) and the next book is a new adventure but same cast :') It was a little rough to get into it, possibly because of my concentration issues due to this sluuuump, but i hit a point in the book where i was like 'oh here it is' and from that moment i was so in love :')

You are a brave reader, Cari. Because, I had never read Little Thieves before, it was recommended to me by a friend of mine (who I worked with at Barnes & Noble), and I wanted to DEVOUR Painted Devils. But, I had to wait over a year to read the digital ARC (and THEN had to wait for the actual book). I had never read any of Margaret Owen's books, and LT made me insta-buy her books. I know how both the sprayed edge Illumacrate's versions of LT and PD. * I WILL warn you: PD ends on a cliffhanger. I about threw a fit because I wanted so much more from my precious Vanja. (Also, her and Emeric are AMAZING. Emeric is such a gentleman. And how he treats her is healthy, with not even a hint of toxicity). Might want to read that one closer to the end of 2024, so you won't have to wait longer than necessary. BUT, if 100 Holy Terrors are preordered (or 200 in general), Ms. Owen will release a collection of short stories!

Exactly! The first book in my opinion was the most boring one, starting with book 2 it gets sooo much better, I couldn't put it down. I love how the whole series is on a crescendo though, evolving and getting better and better book by book.

I read Ember in the Ashes a few months ago, and I have to say it was one of the BEST beginnings to a series I have read in a loooooong time. Have the next ones on my TBR to get to ASAP. I loved the world, the characters, and the stakes. The writing was also excellent. I recommend it to a lot of people who want a finished series.

hey, here from the near-distant future to say ninth house isn't a duology, it's an incomplete trilogy! someone asked leigh bardugo almost a year ago now on good reads if there will be a third book and this is what she had to say: "Yes! Ok, so I originally wanted this to be a much longer series. Think 12 books of Alex Stern investigating supernatural crime and corruption. But these stories take a tremendous amount of time to research and write, so 12 became 5, and then 5 became 3. My intention right now is to keep this a trilogy and that's the way I've planned the plot of the third book. Hopefully the wait won't be quite as long for the final installment. (thank you for your patience!)" so yeah! Here's to the third Alex Stern book that'll probably be out in like 2025 :)

I just started that book a few days ago and HOLY SHIT it's awesome. Bardugo's a writer I didn't pay much attention to, because my luck with YA has not been great, but turns out she can WRITE. I'm thrilled there's to be a third book!

One thing that really helps me when a long time goes by between books in a series is when booktubers do either recaps or like what you do with the wall and the pictures that catches you up. So please keep doing that!!

@@hollyheisermanok so now is the disclaimer… SPOILER seriously don’t continue if you haven’t read the book… I think it’s when we learn who the assassin and who the prince are 😂 ( you know the scene where Lia and her friend are leaving Terravin) But maybe you already knew and that’s why you didn’t feel like it was a huge plot twist, but maybe I am wrong and she is referring to another scene ( but I doubt it). 🙌☺️ Also I haven’t read the last one so please if anyone responds don’t spoil it 😭

My favorite finished series has to be Scythe by Neal Shusterman. The world-building and the characters are all exceptional ( If you like dystopia). I'd also recommend Sisters of Salt by Erin A. Craig. There are actually two books out and one that comes out in 2026 but they can be read as stand-alone as the books tell the stories of different sisters from the same family. The first book is described as a retelling of the twelve dancing princesses but horror and it's amazing.

I'm currently reading my first Sanderson - The Stormlight Archive. a few days ago I finished "The Way of Kings" and gosh... I fell in love. For me this is the peak of fantasy. Now I'm starting the second volume, something amazing. the character designs are so unique - Kaladin is probably my favorite literary hero at the moment. Besides, Dalinar, Jasnah and even Navani have a lot of potential. in love with fantasy again🥰

Kiss of Deception was really fun! I would personally recommend reading it before Dance of Thieves because I think it does have some spoilers for Kiss of Deception, especially if they're read close together so there isn't enough time to forget lol. I think it refers back to a couple big plot events and the inclusion/mention of certain characters in their current state would let the reader know some of what happens in Kiss of Deception.

Throne in the Dark was a great read. I finished the 1st book, ready to take on the remaining two. Damien and Amma are so funny together 😅 “Resting villain face” is epic 🤍

YES The Last Hours gave me major Winter vibes, especially Chain of Iron. Thorns was pretty good for me but I did feel like a lot of punch was held back. Cassie did say it was going to be A LOT sadder but then C*vid hit and she said she couldn’t write a very tragic ending.

The Bear and the Nightingale is quite slow but WONDERFUL and the intrigue is developed constantly throughout. Books 2 and 3 are much faster paced (and also fabulous) and left me breathless with the twists and turns of the plot. I've never immediately started rereading a series since I was little and reading Harry Potter or anything by Tamora Pierce, but as soon as I finished Book 3 I started rereading The Bear and the Nightingale.

I usually plan what im going to read - this was the first book in a while I just dived into blind. I couldn’t put it down! It’s such an imaginative, wintery hidden gem! Snowy forests, wolves, and magical libraries… It’s also sort of a standalone! There’s a second book (I haven’t read yet) but the plot is different. Highly recommend to anyone reading this :)🌲

KISS OF DECEPTION IS MY FAVORITE SERIES EVER when i saw it on the thumbnail of this video I screamed!!! ur one of my fav booktubers and no one talks about this enough so it was a real treat to hear you talk about it (...maybe do a whole video about each book...) ok now: SPOILERS . . . Ok, perf. this series threw me for a loop bc i was like ooh a cute little romance and then i was like dang a love triangle (and one of them wants to kill her) and then its like BOOM and you go straight into action and political drama. the way that it is written is so mystical and beautiful and i love it so much. also, when you find out that this takes place in the FUTURE?? jaw. dropped. it killed me. i literally started the series over as soon as i finished it to pull out the little teases to pur modern world. also i love the romance and how rafe accepts lia's agency while also caring about her safety and when he becomes too overbearing lia immediately stops him and doesnt put up with his bs. i love the 'magic' system and how lia learns to trust herself... I love everything in it

Not a finished series but I’m personally super excited about Tasmyn Muir’s Alecto the Ninth. I binged the first three books right at the beginning of my sophomore year of university and I don’t think I’ve ever been grabbed by a trilogy (now a quadrilogy) the same way these books do. The world is so interesting to unpack since it’s all revolving around necromancy, and Gideon and Harrow could not be more charming. Please take a read if you like action packed plots with slowly unraveling mysteries!!!

@@julial7346the next book announced is about another sister but the author said she’s announced all she is allowed to announce for now. That combined with the unknowns at the end of roots and ruin has led many to believe she’ll go back to that story but either way it won’t be in the next book. Not only is 2026 over 2 years away, it won’t be about Verity it will be about Lenore, so even if we get another book with Verity it won’t be for YEARS. It is an unfinished series.

I would like to add to your list of series that are almost finished! The Kindred Curse Saga is one of the best Fantasy series I have ever read and 3 of 4 books are out now and the last book is out in the beginning March 2024 and I am SO looking forward to it. The first book is Spark of the Everflame. I really don't know why it's not more popular amongst the Booktalk community and I am desperate for someone to read and talk about it.

(Just read the raven cycle and I'm forever changed - these teenagers had no business teaching me life lessons lol. The "sometimes you just read a book at the right time" saying is REAL)

I tried starting to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone at least three times since it originally came out and, for whatever reason, attempt number four was finally the right one. I’m about to properly start Dreams of Gods and Monsters! For anyone who may be interested: The first book is very introductory. It’s a good read, but the series reveals so much more and really expands in scope starting with the second one.

The second Bear and Nightingale book has much more of a story to it. I still need to read the third one. And I want to try Fireborne one day. I read the first Smoke and Bone; it was an interesting world, but a little heavy on the romantasy for me 🫣. I need a really good Nutcracker book.

I have such a love/hate relationship with chain of gold and the dark artifices. On one hand, I am an unabashed lover of the shadow hunter world, but WOW, these past two series in particular have been so drawn out!

I read ‘Woven Kingdom’ a while back and honestly the writing style was very eloquent, in a good way since it matched the vibe of the book but honestly some parts of the book were INCREDIBLY dragged out. The only time I truly enjoyed it was towards the end when the plot decided to start escalating. Back to her writing style, it definitely fit the vibe of royal and majestic but there are definitely gonna be instances where you’ll need to re read a lot of lines or paragraphs because you’ve lost track of didn’t understand. I’m not exactly running to go and get the second book, but it’s the kind of book if I’m ever passing by that I’ll pick up and read.

The broken empire trilogy by mark lawrence is a fav of mine, definitely really dark fantasy with an anti hero esque pov character but it’s so satisfying at the end

I'm also feeling kind of slumpy! My last favourite book was Murder at Spindle Manor by Morgan Stang which is a murder mystery set in a haunted house in a fantasy world, and the MC girl is a monster hunter. It was so funny and melodramatic. It can be read as a standalone because the mystery is solved at the end, but I hope it turns into a very long series!😋 My favourite finished series is The Books of the Raksura by Martha Wells, which is a cozy-adjacent fantasy series about a dragonoid MC Moon wanting to find a family and a home in the first book and then going on adventures with them in beautiful settings in the latter books.💖

Cari if you’re looking for a completed series that has excellent winter vibes (particularly the first two books), you should absolutely check out “The Mirror Visitor” quartet! In a way, it’s like two duologies. It’s my very favorite series, and while the first two books develop slowly, I think the pay off is worth it, and the setting and slow burn are EVERYTHING!

A finished trilogy that absolutely blew me away is by Carol Berg, the Rai-Kirai trilogy (do not let the awful cover of the first book throw you). It’s about a bitter, broken slave who is the only one with the knowledge needed to save the arrogant prince who’s just been overthrown. The complications of power and honor and respect and loathing that color their relationship is fascinating, as is the world and magic system.

The Remnant Chronicles was a trilogy I stumbled upon accidentally & absolutely devoured. Glad to see it mentioned, I rarely ever see it mentioned anywhere. The spin-off duology Dance of Thieves was equally as consuming for me.
