I would disagree with your closing statement of this video being "not the most educational". It not only shows what ingredients I could think about adding to my diet, but also how I would be able to do that. You provide all this beautiful information about singular ingredients and I tend to struggle to connect them into something I can eat routinely. Giving insight in how you yourself go about it with some of these ingredients helps me a lot with that.

Theres a religion, Jainism, where followers refrain from eating garlic, or anything else that grows under the earth, such as potatoes or sweet potatoes or radishes. Its always surprising to me how they're able to get adequate nutrition, as so much of my diet consists of these vegetables, but also, I can't imagine going a whole lifetime without having garlic or onion breath.

I just wanted to say that your videos have really helped me on my body health journey. In September of 2022, I made a conscious decision, under doctor's supervision, to lose weight, retain muscle, lower cholesterol and triglycerides. I have used your tier lists in making a much healthier approach to food choices, and as a result, I've gone from 118 kg to 89kg in just over a year - 23 kg of that being fat loss, and my muscle mass is still at the top of the range for my age and height. This all comes down to food choices. The major things I've done have been focusing on protein, vitamins, and fiber in the mornings (blueberries with plain yogurt and walnuts being my favorite breakfast), switching my starchy grains to whole grains - especially going strictly to brown rice/GABA blends, and allowing myself protein/fiber snacks. Top three foods I've added this year? GABA rice, fava beans, and ginger. Also, thank you so much. I know these videos are a lot of work, but they are having a direct impact on my health and my life, and I'm sure they're helping many other people, as well.

My 3 food discoveries of 2023: Kohlrabi - a perfect snack and also a good alternative for cabbage/broccoli. Bonus: super easy to grow in a garden / pot. Coffee - hated coffee all my life, but my GF convinced me to try freshly ground coffee. It is wonderful, I'm now a coffee nerd :D Cottage cheese - I always tried to include it in my diet but failed cause I just hate it with fruits / honey. This year I realised you can have it in savoury version and it has been a game changer for me. It is so much easier to consume daily dose of protein if you eat cottage cheese.

A few comments. Almonds, the oxalates are mostly on the skin. You can remove it or Blanche them to reduce it. You can also take calcium at a different time to bind it for removal. Broccoli, for sulfirafane benefits you should combine it with ground mustard seed. Butter for cooking. Butter has a low smoke point as does olive oil. Try coconut oil, its high smoke point combined with the medium chain triglycerides and lower long chain triglycerides makes it a winner. Add butter after you cook food to benifit from small chain triglycerides.

I already know pretty much everything i need to know and how to do it, but people just listing what they eat and how they eat it / cook it is good because you may bring up something i hadnt thought of or forgot about, can help me break through or mix up a fairly bland diet. its also nice background watch / listen. your voice sounds informative and your tone is relaxing. your visuals are easy on the eyes and colourful enough to be easy watching and entertaining that I actually watch the video when im meant to be doing something on my other screen.

Fun video, thank you! In 2023 my husband and I started eating cranberries every day... we cook them down (no water, no sugar, nothing) so the consistency is like cranberry sauce - then he takes a portion and eats it as is (ewww), I take a portion and add a little stevia - yumm!! I add mine to salads with vinegar, it's like a great cranberry vinaigrette! More recently, I've been eating sauerkraut (real, fermented in the refrigerated section of the grocery store). Foods I've been eating for at least 1-2years almost daily are: Arugula, Avocado, Sweet Potato or Kabocha Squash, Jicama (I buy it, cut it up & freeze it in portions - otherwise it goes bad quickly), Steel Cut Oats, Cranberries (made into sauce), Chicken (usually breast), Fish (wild - usually salmon), Egg (1 a day), Nuts (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, pistachios - sometimes cashews - although Dr. Gundry, who I have a love/hate feeling about & he usually drives me nuts (hahaha), somehow got into my brain and brainwashed me to stay away from cashews). Thanks for all of your videos, they're great!! I use Cronometer to give me the nutritional breakdown of foods, but your videos are very helpful because they lay it all out with your narrative & nifty charts!!

If you're making gyros, making more sandwiches, or eating more salads, I'd highly recommend adding pickled red onion and pickled sliced garlic to your toolkit. Gives a great acidic snap with a strong but tolerable flavor, goes incredibly well on a lot of things and if you're weird like me, is a great snack or addition to a charcuterie spread. As a bonus, you can make a huge batch for a dollar or two, and it'll last a long time in the fridge. It'll also help a lot if you intend on making your own salad dressings, since you get to control the contents. A simple Caesar style vinaigrette takes maybe 5 minutes to put together and is an easy use of the olive oil left over from canned fish, leftover pickle/olive brine, and half the spices in your spice rack.

I started cooking for myself this year, and imagine my surprise when 8 of the 10 things on this list have been staples for me. Broccoli + Carrot + whatever mixed with pasta is a hit (Internet Shaquille has a great video on it), and Tortillas are such a convenient carb to have in the pantry, and such tasty one too. Guess shrimp and tangerines are gonna be on my "start liking" list for 2024.

I started eating zucchini. I have a hard time eating vegetables but tried incorporating more and found the zucchini to be so versatile. Before I only had it once as zoodles and hated it. But it works so well in scrambled eggs with cottage or feta cheese and bell pepper, also pairs very well with tomatoes of any kind and tastes very good in potato soup and also in stir-fries. Now it‘s one of my kitchen rotation staples! I also added Greek yogurt. It‘s a fast and easy breakfast paired with almond butter, flaxseed oil, granola or chia seeds and berries or banana. My next step would be healthy dinners as I struggle with those

Literally eating a tangerine when you started talking about it. Started eating it this year as well. I also upped my intake of whole grain bread, because I love bread and whole grain bread it a great source of fibre and even protein for me. Beginning of this year I also started eating more eggs and drinking milk regularly. My most recent addition is lentils because of how healthy, cheap, tasteful and easy to prepare they are. For the next year I want to add ginger (probably through shots) into my diet. I’ve also never thought about taking shrimp but I am considering it after this video.

I’ve started eating a lot more squash this year. Mostly in an attempt to eat foods that are exclusively in season throughout the year but let me tell you, I never knew the culinary universe that opens up when adding squash to your diet. I think it should be a much more regular part of food life

I started eating eggs this year. All my life, I hated the idea of eggs. I didn’t like the way they smelled, tasted, but looked, but through college I finally gave them a fair chance, and let me say I have never felt better. Eating eggs in the morning has made me lose weight, feel better, get more nutrition, and the journey I took after I started eating them really is what introduced me to your channel. I started eating many other things too, but this has got to be the biggest change.

Great video as always Talon. I definitely prefer your more educational style videos, but it's definitely refreshing to get to know your personal habits a bit better Before you completely give up on green tea, may I suggest (if you haven't done so already) that you try brewing it between 70-75 C (158-167 F). Usually this means putting the kettle on, pouring your mug as soon as the kettle's done, then waiting about 5 min before adding your teabag. A lot of people don't know that brewing your tea at an excessively hot temp (>80C) will make it bitter...this is why homemade green teas, or those purchased at cafes, will be very bitter but the ones served at asian restaurants are generally mild and pleasant. Also, surprised that butter made the list. I understand it given the caveat that you pair it with lean animal proteins and only have maybe 5-10g at a time, but I definitely didn't expect it to make a "top 10"-style video given the vast amounts of research into the links between saturated fats, LDL cholesterol, and cardiovascular disease risk. Proof that moderation is key!

The picture of various mushrooms at 7:39 is awesome, particularly the lower right corner :D I didn't just started eating eggs this year, but I started making an omelet nearly daily, and I change the primary ingredient from time to time: Salmon, broccoli, spinach, or just bell pepper, always with a bit of garlic and one habanero :)

I swapped cooking my eggs in butter to ghee, and it was amazing. I can keep it simple with a bit of heavy cream, salt, pepper, and ghee, or doll it up with some added turmeric, paprika, and celery salt over regular salt. I've started using ghee in my ramen noodles with garlic and onion powder and maybe a bit of chicken bouillon for extra flavor and broth; I've found that I enjoy them more because it's so satisfying and fulfilling to me. Going into 2024, I'm looking forward to eating more of the foods listed here, especially mushrooms, as well as a few others in your ranked videos...that I'll now be binging, lol. Thanks for this!! 💙

Love the videos, very interesting and useful. Trying to cut down a lot on processed foods this year but have felt bored eating a lot of the same things. Your videos have helped bring variety to my diet and taught me a lot about micronutrients, which I've never really paid any attention to. All that said, I still base most of my diet based on what's most affordable, so I've been eating a ton of broccoli, bananas, chicken, rice, garlic/onions, sweet potatoes, etc. It would be cool to see a video from you on Top 10 Healthy Foods You Can Buy on a Budget, or something along those lines.

Interesting video, I started expanding my cooking a lot more this year as well. I got some good tips out of it, I will start eating almonds and oranges for breakfast for the skin benefits. I noticed you didn't mention much for soup; one of my favorite new dishes is chicken mushroom barley stew. Some garlic, leek, carrot, tons of mushroom, with barley and chicken breast, its so good. Another thing I started making much more has been pasta, since I am trying to gain weight. I have been underweight my whole life so I'd love tips for weight gain, which is something no one ever talks about. It seems hard eat for weight gain while also eating clean, especially for someone that struggles with skin health.

I like your content! You mention adding mushrooms to all of your salads. You should consider cooking almost all mushrooms. Especially Agaricus bisporus (i.e. Cremini, button mushrooms, portobello) due to agaritine found in them when raw. Ideally with high heat. Keep it up bro!

I have begun eating more beans and mushrooms; they're in every meal prep. There are a fair number of benefits to them while providing good quantities of fiber, yet also with a nice savory flavor. I started consuming raw kombucha too, although the benefits of that are debated; I just enjoy it.

Since a couple of months I'm blessed with a new food service at work. There are plenty of soup, fresh salad bar + hot bar choices and you can make the weirdest combinations because you pay per weight. Just having shrimp and mushrooms for lunch for instance is possible but having four different hot vegetable dishes combined too. I rarely snack in the evening now.

I liked this video. Your previous videos were valuable sources of information and a good way to compare food articles. And I watched several of them. I did skip through some clips, and others i only watched partly. This video however had a personal touch where I got insight into your personal choices and why you chose that way. It's easy to make a diet plan that is decently balanced when you have all the datapoints. But it's not so easy to follow it for months on end. This clip lets me observe you on the same path.

I started adding frozen veggie mixes to my diet. I already ate a lot of veggies before this addition, but in stressful times, when i had hardly any time or motivation to cook, i would lack a lot of nutrients. Now i just throw them in whatever lazy meal I'm making and even when it's just instant ramen or a couple of eggs for dinner, it at least has some more nutrients.
