I love the vintage formulation of Drakkar Noir-it's one of my favorite fragrances ever, but I think that the current formulation of it is not even half as excellent as it used to be like. I remember that new bottles of Drakkar Noir were still very good well into the 1990's. I bought a new bottle of it last year and it mostly causes me to want to search for a more vintage version of it.

Another (Makes me Happy) video Kelan. Bravo!!! Bogart Sig is really good! I have both the original and reformulated. The original says Oakmoss on the box. There is a different too. Interesting! You got me going with Lomani PM! I’m hooked. I found an original Houbigant Duc! It looks old. Much thinner bottle with a really cheap tin cap. The smell is an oakmoss bomb in a good way. The smell is very recognizable in the current form. Keep those reviews coming! I love the vintage versus current formulation videos!

I think Fougeres were popular with the generations of women of past decades…not so much today. The clean, soapy, effect was representative of a “groomed” man. My wife likes them because it’s what she grew up around. Today, it’s all about “sweet” and unisex stuff. Today’s generation of women and men have been conditioned to favor these times of frags because the lines between masculine and feminine have been blurred. I’m a firm believer that fragrances reflect the times. I’m not implying it’s a bad thing…it just “is”.

Have you tried Penhaligon’s English Fern? It got discontinued not too long ago sadly. The vintage versions are darker and more rich. Kellen, do you have vintage Jacomo de Jacomo? I’m 55 and was wearing Drakaar in the mid-80’s but so was everyone else around me. I was always on the hunt for something just as good yet different. I found Jacomo and rocked that through the last few years of the 80’s. It was SOOOO damn good! Slowly my friends all started wearing it too (I was that guy). We didn’t think in terms of “date night” frags or “panty droppers” or “most complimented” but this was that all the way. A sexy, warm, spicy fougere that stood out amongst the Drakaar masses. The new formulation is a shadow of the original. Clove was definitely a note in it but is almost the only note in the current one. Highly recommended for the vintage collection!

How are you doing Kelan? Great selections as usual mate. Did you get to check out that Bob Mackie For Men? Just curious. Do you intend to check out the legendary Jean Patou Pour Homme? Either way, it’s long discontinued now and only tales of its greatness remain. The old timers swear by that stuff though. They say it smelled heavenly back in the day. There’s a new formulation out today but it’s said to smell nothing like the og. Fragheads love to knock on it. Man, after hearing and reading about it, I’d love to try some of this stuff. i was pulling off gucci nobile when i was 18. at the time i liked it but also felt it was a bit meture type scent for me that was 2001. Now at age 40 i would have loved this. suddenly it all makes sense these older classics are for men not boys. once u get to mid 30's u realise how good they are. sadly discontinued like u say but im currently finding versace l'homme doing a similar job for me a bot more sweeter though.

Ralph Lauren Polo Green is my favorite fragrance of all time, but it's not a Fougere, despite it being green as all getout. It's a chypre, and features pine, leather and tobacco along with substantial Aromatic herbs, but no lavender. A classic Fougere has, they say, the tell-tale lavender-coumarin accord, with the coumarin (or, usually, substitute of coumarin by accord from other notes) contributing the earthy green "fern" accord. The "barbershop" variety of Fougere is less well defined but usually has the green-earthy accord toned down and a soapy/powdery accord amped up. Compare modern-day classic fougeres Houbigant Fougere Royale (2010) and Amouage Bracken Man with any of the "barbershop" fougeres like YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme, Azzaro Pour Homme, etc.
@salvatoreconte8313 жыл бұрын

I'd like to hear your opinion on Rocky Man Black some day. Some say it shares a similarity with drakkar noir
@julian_arness13203 жыл бұрын
Another interesting one would be your take on Perry Ellis 360 for men. Some think it's just like ADG, some say it's better and the best bargain out there, some hate it. One other thing would be having a women in their 20s smell drakkar noir, lomani pour homme, etc and give their opinion. I could see that being very humorous but also probably pissing off some of your viewers lol

@@ScentsOfSouthJersey that fragrance community thing with Mr smelly popped into my KZbin feed and I watched it for the first time because I noticed you were in it and wearing a track suit looking like an associate on the Sopranos haha you were looking good tho! Anyways I was really surprised that one chick who I think is French said she really liked drakkar noir. I'm 31 and live in the Midwest, I can't imagine any woman in her 20s to 30s liking drakkar noir unless her dad or grandfather wore it or something. Maybe I'm wrong. I'd like to see your take on Versace pour homme some time or missoni wave, more recent fragrances that you could say are here to replace Aqua Di Gio but I know you're more about the old school colognes. It's interesting to me that many people say the old school manly colognes are unwearable nowadays. I enjoy VPH and it is considered masculine by today's standards but many old school guys would say it leans towards being unisex or atleast, metrosexual lol
