What would be really cool is more control for drawings. Beeing able to change line widths and centre marks. Also being able to add cut sections to long parts.

being left-handed, I've noticed that there is sometimes a difference between left and right modifier keys. Sometimes manuals will say alt-click when they mean left-alt-click. right-handed people normally use the modifier key with the left and the mouse with the right. while lefties do the opposite, and it sometimes gets overlooked by programmers and documentation. So if you find modifier keys not working, try the other side of the keyboard.

Gretw video, do you offer a service where someone can submit a file like ib the video for you to offer help and advice on machining the part?

John, The splines nodes actually have two handles. One to control the tangency, and the other to control the curvature at that location. Hard to describe, easy to use: Right click on the node, and you'll get 2 options in the drop-down menu. Activate Curvature Handle, Activate Tangent Handle. They are really helpful in fine tuning the curve. I have not been able to figure out how to do asymmetric modification of the handles. But the length and direction of the handles matters.

just a question - can you directly edit the node type as you can in a drawing program I have? ( I do not have a cnc, just like the videos ) -- with the drawing program I use for tracing, I can zoom into the line I created ( vector line ) right click it to bring up node edit, then hover over the node, right click again for the options and select edit node type... this will bring up selections for asymmetric and symmetric options. like I said not sure if it has the same functions...
@qcnck27767 жыл бұрын
No, I have not found an asymmetric option in Fusion 360. It only seems to allow symmetric controls. But you can change the weighting of each of the two handles independently by increasing the size of the handle.

Can you hold alt while moving spline handles to affect only one of them? This works in Photoshop with beziers. There's actually a little practice thing for the bezier tool on method.ac. It may apply to Fusion.

It looks like if you have smoothing off, it is converting arcs (G2 or G3) to line segments (G1). Very good to know. I am one of those with an older control that has a limit of 999 lines of code without drip feeding.

Alt doesn't work on contours that have to be closed. like a boundary. Since it's an open contour shortcut.

hey man! how did you get the shortcuts to "wireframe/shaded" view to show up in the navigation bar itself?? i have been searching for this a lot from the past two days since i saw you had this in the previous videos too! great work as always

tip 8 comment. if you make that view which was the right view the front view by clicking on the icon to the bottom right of the view box ""set current view as"" front. your orbit and pan movements become more fluid in relation to that face.

Whats a good way to learn this software? For some one who is good with computers and machining (manual and cnc) but don't know the first thing about this software. Im sure your very busy but anybody with some input much appreciated!

Why not just toss that tool tip delay in the options as well? I am with John, an't got no time for waiting, I would have it instant! If I'm holding down the shift key I'm intending to get the tool tip. Actually I would like to turn off all tool tips and only have them show instantly with a modifier key, like shift ;)

Smoothing is not well explained in fusion, or a lot of other programs for that matter. It is what is called crc filtering in other programs. What it is doing is applying arcs to replace liner segments and the 'allowance' that you set is the deviation from the actual position of the segments that its is allowed to use. This is different than the 'tolerance' but they are related. Tolerance is the deviation that the initial segments are allowed to have, then smoothing is applied hence you want to have the smoothing set to smaller than the tolerance so that you don't deviate more that your tolerance. Now if you machine has look ahead, high speed machining or whatever the manufacturer calls it, the control will also be applying its own smoothing in the very same manner just as you go. So you need to be aware that when you are using look ahead you are going to be stacking the smoothing deviation in fusion and the controls deviation. This can lead to you actually having moves that are outside of your intended deviation! Now saying that I always recommend smoothing be on, just lower the deviation allowance in both fusion and you control if you need tighter motion control. Personally on my not so fancy mill if I have my smoothing at .0002" and the same on my control I will not get any visible gouges when 3d surfacing. Now if I set smoothing to .0005" and do the same on my control I will get visible defects in my finish as now I've allowed a total of .001" of 'smoothing'. Hey maybe you can make a video with some examples just crank up these values to the extreme! Just cut a part with smoothing & look ahead small blue it and re run it with smoothing & look ahead turned up to a big number! this way you can see where it gouges and doesn't on camera.

Have you ever looked at the cad software call "ONSHAPE"? It sort of looks like Fusion 360 in some ways, but for the general use like me, it is free, with all the tools available. The only thing they charge for, is if you are a business, and making things to sell or fix for money, then they want you to pay for the use of their product. (It is called ONSHAPE PROFESSIONAL, for $100.00 a month. Maybe you already new about it. The neat thing is that if your on line with it, and they come up with a tool addition or some other new way of doing something, it shows up instantly, even if you are using it for free. They have seminars once in a while, and they are live, and you can ask questions and they will answer them online, while everyone is watching. If you miss the live seminar, they give you a link, so you can watch it later, but it isn't live. Michael M

Michael Murray Did you know that full featured Fusion (well no 5 axis CAM, but *really*) is free too? Anyone making less than 100k a year using it or students can get free licenses. Sounds like Onshape is slightly less favourably licensed.
