haha I guess that's the point, right? I think bands do have souls, but they also evolve, and sometimes we just can't blame the changing of members for the difference in the music. Some will maintain their sound, most won't, original members or not. Take Metallica for example, the core of the band is still there, same guys except for bassist, but you listen to the first and last albums and see the clear difference.

The title is misleading, describing these bands as the greatest. On a couples date one Saturday night we were driving through town and saw the billboard showing Quiet Riot tonight at this bar that might hold 200 people maximum, so I volunteered to drop dinner and go watch the show. The girls decided to drop us off and pick us up after the show. It was an awesome show with Kevin Dubrow and Carlos Cavaso playing on the small stage.

Paulo Jr. has been in Sepultura since the beginning. He's been in the band since before Max was their vocalist. They had a bass player before him, but even Wikipedia doesn't know who that guy was, so he shouldn't count. The only mention of their previous bass player was on the Chaos DVD, when Paulo was talking about joining the band, and they were impressed because he had a new bass, so they said he could join.

By the time Jesper quit in 2010, Anders Friden had taken some creative control, and was more interested in making pop metal than melodeath.

I guess that depends on when you think In Flames became a band. If you think they started in mid 1998, I suppose it's more or less the same lineup. If you think they started in 1993, then they weren't even the same lineup by the time their second EP came out, much less Jester Race or Whoracle.

Well in case of Opeth the "original band" was just some random group of yongster deathmetallers. When Mikael joined the rest were kicked, and few years later the leader left and Mikael was left alone to form the actual Opeth that started to write the music.

The first two albums didn't have Anders, but the vocalists they had were brought in as session vocalists, not as permanent members. So, technically, Anders is still the original vocalist if you don't count the temporary ones.

I wouldn’t include Quiet Riot because their drummer Frankie Banali has appeared on every album. He’s not a founding member but he’s been in the band more or less since the beginning. (he was briefly replaced by a drummer named Bobby Rondinelli in the early 90’s, but Rondinelli only played drums on a few songs from an album that Banali played most of).

Yeah was quite the opposite with Gwar. Dave Brockie was the only consistent member. There have been around 30 different members in Gwar, easily. So when Dave died, the band did consider breaking up, but ultimately decided that he would have wanted them to continue. The current singer is the 2nd longest term member of the band and he was previously the lead guitarist before Dave died.
