I began my journey at Ronin Athletics in NYC in 2008. They were associated with you and Straight Blast gym. Thank you for this highly informative podcast. As a 51 year old grappler I agree about limiting big explosive movements and pacing. Thank you and respect to you both for sharing your wisdom.

"..they have a huge collection of moves, but they don't understand the art." Completely agree.

Your explanation of the "Hidden Jitsu" is point on. As a (57yr old) white belt, EVERY chance I get to roll with brown/black belts I take and ask for more. They way they shift their weight, place their hands, move from one position to another...its experience I cannot get when rolling with my own level. I am thankful that my gym has many to go to and that they are VERY patient with my barrage of questions. Great vid, thanks!

Great stuff as always. Marcelo Garcia’s lone MMA match is on KZbin and he does pretty well in the first round - takes is opponent down. Maintains top and progresses from Mount to Back. He isn’t able to secure the RNC (most like due to the MMA gloves) but then he gets rocked in tbd second round and it gets called because of a cut. His groundwork seemed great but he looked very awkward and uncomfortable on the feet trying to close the distance

Great talk. I always learn so much from Henry. As a new purple belt I’m learning Jiu-Jitsu all over again. I think I will still be learning from Henry well after black belt. 👊

If Jiu Jitsu trained with strikes is the way to go for MMA, than Combat Sambo is way ahead of the game in terms of preparing fighters for MMA because of the striking that's included in the training of Sambo

Gracie Jiu-jitsu was always trained with strikes. It's only the modern sport BJJ that took it away from his striking roots.
