Totally agree with the Space Cowboy moment in Gerald's Game. I first read that book when i was in my early teens, & that moment scared the hell out of me, & it's still nightmare fuel to me now as a fully grown adult.

I just recently read Gerald’s Game and I thought it was great! This moment was at the front of my memory.

I wondered if Jack Ketchum's the girl next door was gonna feature. That book is a rough read. If it was totally fictitious, i would think that it was a good, grisly horror story, but the fact we knew it's loosely based on a true story hung over me the whole time i was reading it. It certainly made me question humanity, and the depths that some people will go to when they just want to hurt someone. I enjoyed the experience of reading it, but, damn.... its a rough ride. Keep up the good work mate, you deserve more subscribers. Hopefully, your channel will continue to grow!! 😊😊

Thanks for watching! I totally feel you on Girl Next Door, I try to pick different books to mix it up a bit.

That was a heavy one for sure! But thank you nontheheless for mentioning these scenes. It will keep me from stumbling upon these books by accident and then be ruined for the rest of my reading life. Fortunately, I only read one of the books you mention in this video, "Gerald's Game". The Space Cowboy wasn't what really freaked me out, though. But remember the dog (his name was Prince, if I remember correctly). And the whole scene with the total eclipse...baaaah.🤢😵💫

The moment of the eclipse (with her father) is definitely worse now that you mention it. That is one messed up book!

I read Child of God and Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying back to back. That was one surreal, southern gothic nightmare.

That’s is right up my alley bro. As I Lay Dying is an all time favorite of mine.

I probably will not pick up most of these (maybe a couple), too brutal. I have become a wimp in my old age. 😆 When I was younger I would read mostly anything , no matter how dark or morbid. Lately I have found myself pulling back from the really horrific books and movies. I still of course read horror, but the extreme is off my list now. I really enjoy Junji Ito though. His work is so bizarre, odd, and horrific, and there is something I am drawn to about his stories. I really enjoy Asian horror though. I find it to be more imaginative and unique. The " I don't know what is wrong with me" made me LOL. I have literally asked myself the same thing over the years for some of my choices in books and movies.😅

I completely agree with you on growing out of the extreme horror. I have become much less interested in that kind of thing as I get older.

This is great. I'm loving your channel. Though it's not great for my teetering TBR. Every time you do a top ten, it gets ten books longer.

This could be a good "parts" video, since you said you could do this multiple times. Pepper one of these in to the channel every so often.

Glad you liked it! It was easy to make the list but as I started talking about these moments I felt bad like what is wrong with me

Yikes. These are brutal. Ever read Cows by Matthew Stokoe? Not sure anything could ever disturb me more. 🤢

I have intentionally avoided that book cause I’ve heard it’s so gross!

@@blackbeltreads Smart. It's like the author wanted to see how disgusting it could get. There is no redeeming quality to the story. It's vile.

At least with most of these we have great writing/story telling. I’ve read a few books that seem to just go for shock and that doesn’t really work for me either.

I read Swan Song a long long time ago and forgot about the scab-face until you just mentioned it and yeah that was a cool part of a cool book but as it is with just about every S. King book I’ve ever read, and McCammon too, the endings are always a huge anti-climactic let-down. Phantoms by Dean Koontz was really god, I just finished that a few days ago.

It’s about the journey, not the destination. Most horror books don’t have the best ending but that’s okay if the rest is good. A good ending I recently read was Hex. Hex did a great job building suspense and ending in madness
