Djent/Progressive Metal is one of my favourite genres, with bands like Meshuggah/Periphery/TesseracT/Animals As Leaders being in my top. I've uploaded two videos like this before of a project I've been working on for some time that composes Djent/Progressive Metal music akin to Periphery/TesseracT/Animals As Leaders with procedural generation. Since my last one, I've done multiple explanation videos for those that are insterested in the process. This is the new iteration, which contains a ton of changes and improvements to the algorithm! Essentially it works with loading in thousands of separate sound files, all of individual notes (or hits, if it's drums), and through various means concatenates them together to make music.

4:09:00 is so damn groovy. To me, the most impressive thing about this the drums. They always suit the guitar while still having bits of ear candy to stand out on its own. As a drummer, there are so many fills and cool grooves in this that I want to try out on my own. I could see this being used as a template for creativity if you’re stuck in a rut. Edit(random cool parts I found) 7:59:20(the transition between The Mortals and The Gate Keepers if fucking beautiful) 46:06(this riff is so damn creepy, I love it. Notes are right, but... You need to improve smoothness of guitar parts, too robotic (When I tried to humanize shreddage hydra, I found some approaches out of regular humanize methods: 1) Less boosting amp with od-s. 2) Reduce the formant of DI-s (I used mautopitch), artifacts and overall sound degradation before amp helps to reduce robot effect 3) Transient shaping - reduce attack of notes. It helps to reduce overall transient inconsistency of di (when guitarist move positions, etc, ot produces not sharp, more smooth transitions, not as midi notes.) All this approaches keep same idea: soften and glue stand-alone notes.

Maybe it's because you don't produce yourself. I take huge pride in being able to write, record and produce music. It's a skill I've worked for almost my entire life. Even went to school to study music full time. Now it feels like everything I've worked for and taught myself is useless. Humans are still superior to this sound right now but the technology is still in it's infancy. In a few years you probably wont even be able to tell that the guitar is played and written by a computer. Midjourney will completely replace digital artists and is rapidly doing so already. Music is already devalued. Perhaps this will convince people to play live and watch live shows, but the fact that you can procedurely generate djent kind of demonstrates how mechanical the genre has become. 10 hours of procedurally generated djent simply demonstrates that djent is now printable, and valueless without serious innovation. If you could print money from your home printer, would money become more or less valuable?

The day of everyone is an aspiring artist needs to end. Not everyone needs to be a musician. That mentality has single handedly created this vacuum. It's the same in most every industry. At this point it has to go until it breaks to the point that real people are the only ones capable of fixing it.

I remember doing this in a less ai way, but very similar. It was with a program I can't recall the name of. You would just tab it out and it would play with any instrument at any given time if you chose. This goes beyond. This is gonna help so many people break out of ruts and not get bogged down with practice. Truly amazing. Props brother.

@@RohannvanRensburg Not at all. I'm referring to the more advanced player. I could have been more specific for sure, so I apologize ha. Having a.i. map out drums, gives a certain practice session that isn't "bogged" down by playing stuff already made by other artists. Just a different way to practice essentially. It's those random timing sigs and writing something to them that really makes it fun for me personally. Makes me focus more, instead of just trying to "learn" a certain playstyle. I don't even know if I'm making sense, but this is pretty cool. Definitely helps me as a vocalist too.

This is super cool! And actually sounds really good too. So I'm big into playing drums on custom songs for Rock Band/Phase Shift/Clone Hero - would the program be able to auto generate a midi file, translating specific drum notes to specific notes in the midi? Would be super cool to have "infinite" djent to play along to!

Thanks a lot! Haha, funny you should say that, I've recently gotten into playing rhythm games, mostly Clone Hero! I've toyed around with coding a chart exporter for this program. So maybe it would be possible, haha. (: We'll see in the future!

I bought two Wii guitars, and have been using them wirelessly, but it has been a bit glitchy, sometimes it just stops working, so I need to buy one of those Raphnet adapters, which will take like a month to get here, haha. So currently mostly drums! That's awesome, I've tried doing some charts myself as well (not of the procedurally generated songs though), should probably finish them and publish them soon, haha. (:
