When u buy Cylindrica, do not buy the ones with multiple stalks standing straight up, they are meant to fan. When nurseries sell those standing up, they are cuttings, they won't grow unless they pup.

Oh no so it really is just a living sculpture! 😂 Unfortunately I got it online and it didn’t show the base in the pics 😭💔 I don’t think mine will ever grow at this point then, I bet they look so much nicer fanned!

ur philodendron mandaianum would probably benefit from getting its hair cut, and potting the stem with remaining leaves in a new pot, with something to climb, it;ll give you larger leaves if its got stable climbing material and you can toss the old naked stem

Yes that sounds like a good plan, I’ve been thinking of giving her the chop for a while! I need to up my moss pole game 🙈

I regret buying a curly spider plant. I could not make that thing happy. All that's left of the gorgeous full plant I bought is a tiny baby plant it put out. I don't have high hopes for that. I'm okay with it. If you give me nothing in return for my time and care, then we weren't meant to be. Good advice for dealing with people and plants!

Aw no that’s so annoying! I don’t get on particularly well with my spider plant, I feel like they don’t thrive in very humid conditions for some reason cos other people I know with mainly tropical plants seem to also struggle with spider plants 🙈 That’s a great outlook! 😊

I have trouble with a lot of the plants you spoke of too!

Oh no, which ones? I always say, yes it’s good to save plants but if it’s stressing you out or negatively impacting your life it’s fine to say goodbye to those plants - you come first 💚 I recently let go of a fern that had been driving me round the bend for ages and it was a big relief 😂 Giving plants you’ve had enough of to friends and neighbours is always an option as well (I recently gave plantzbab my Anthurium forgetii which I’d struggled with for ages)

Ceriopegia woodii variegata. Lovely leaves, great little grower, but.... it would not stop flowering profusely and shedding the dead flowers en masse all over my floor and shelves. There was just no end to it. Daily cleaning up after a plant... not my thing. It had to go. Am now trying with a string of turtles.

Oh no that’s so annoying! I don’t think you’d get on well with Oxalis ‘Plum Crazy’ then, with mine the dead leaves and flowers fall on everything like confetti 🙈 I hope you enjoy growing SOT! 😊

Thanks for the warning, that can go straight onto the blacklist. I had indeed been eying those, the colour is glorious!@@buildyourjungle

No problem! 😁 Yeah definitely, the colour’s what first attracted me to it, but the leaf dropping is the one downside 😝 And very high watering demands because they grow so fast

What is the middle plant on the shelf behind you? It looks like Senecio "Little Star". I nearly bought one last year but talked myself out of it. I regret NOT buying that plant. 😂
@buildyourjungle
@buildyourjungle 3 ай бұрын
Ooh I know which one you mean, such a cool species! I love Senecio, the ‘Mount Everest’ is my favourite 😍 The plant behind me is actually a type of fern, it’s Asparagus setaceus sprengeri and they’re really affordable as well, my friend bought me it for £5 from a supermarket ages ago and it’s gotten massive now 😝

I have sooo many of cylindricas. Yours probably haven't grown because they still trying to grow roots. I think they all are just cuttings. Have you check the roots yet? It will take months to grow just the roots before they can produce babies.
@buildyourjungle
@buildyourjungle 3 ай бұрын
Yes I think you’re right! The root system hasn’t grown since I’ve got it, I repotted it when I bought it and I’ve knocked them out of the pot by accident a LOT 😂 and in the years I’ve had this plant it’s always just had about an inch of roots under each prop and that’s it 🙈

As someone who loves and grow hoyas please do treat it for flat mites. Especially if you have it placed in a perfect location and has amazing roots but grows no new leaf can be due to mites. Will recommend sulfur veg/rose as they are dissolvable in water.
@buildyourjungle
@buildyourjungle 3 ай бұрын
That’s a good point! I had that in the back of my mind because some damage on a growth point looks like examples of flat mite damage 😬 Do you know if they usually spread to other genera of plants? 🫣
@beeng77

@@buildyourjungle I mostly collect hoyas but yes some of my plants that were touching the hoyas did not put out any growth so as a precaution I did give it a spray and followed the cycle. I have heard from others who experienced flat mites on maranta family and for me my rubber plants definitely did suffer with flat mites.
@buildyourjungle

Oh dear, I better treat the whole box then 🙈 At least they’ve been contained this whole time and weren’t just chilling with my other plants! I have one other Hoya that seems suspicious, but the rest are doing really well thankfully 😅 Thanks for the advice 💚

@@buildyourjungle I have just under 100 hoyas so if i see any concern like deformed leaves without any apparent reason and roots are excellent- i do spray them. For the first sulfur fruit veg/rose pls do finish the cycle ( for 8 weeks spray it every 2 weeks) after the 2nd to 3rd spray you should see something but still carry on spraying due to the cycle of mites any spray any new hoyas you receive bring into the house especially imports😊. Hope it works wonders for you like it has done for many of us. After flat mites are eradicated, I realised hoya do not grow slow at all.
