The best thing you can do is leave your tank alone. Aside from feeding the fish, maintinence, that's it. 2nd, stop watching videos on the best way to do this, and the best way to do that. How to this and that, you start to over complicate yourself by trying to do what everyone else says. You start to over treat your tank in a million different ways. Put a nice filtration , nice light, don't use tap water, check salinity and fix as needed. Don't overfeed, don't over stock the tank, learn from mistakes, that's it.

You need a couple powerheads (blowers) that way you have ample flow you want 30X turnover or so. I like a few different test kits and have done videos on those. I think the best light on the market is the ecotech radions for growing and coloring coral however thats out of a lot of ppls price range and I get that. Great video buddy. I all was try to explain to people why certain pieces of equipment are so much more expensive then others, lighting is a good example. People that go out and buy right the first time are all was more successful then those that cheap out on everything. Fluval and Nicrew lights are cheaper, AI’s and Radions are more expensive. This isn’t a coincidence there’s a clear-cut reason for this. The more expensive lights grow coral faster the coral has more color and overall the light spectrum is tuned specifically for coral. Not to mention, cheaper lights often tend to grow more algae. New people should ask themselves this question. How are the companies that make these more expensive lights still in business when their products cost more than the competition, there must be a reason, right?
@brianprado24724 жыл бұрын
what brand is better? Al's or Radion's?
@bobwright87894 жыл бұрын
@@brianprado2472 Radion is pretty much the best led you can get but they are really expensive AI’s are much more affordable and preform just about as well. Radions tend to make coral look a bit more colorful they are also really powerful with the XR30 clocking in at 215 watts which make them a good choice for high light demand coral such as sps. Keep in mind that doesn’t mean you can’t do sps with an AI or LPS with a Radion.

Just bought a waterbox 100.3. I currently have a 5 year established 20 gallon tank. If I add my live rock, substrate and the established water along with some new artificial rock and new live substrate with 80 gallons of fresh saltwater and all my fish and coral, will my new system go into a mini cycle? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@RealReefingTV4 жыл бұрын
The bacteria will need to populate the new surfaces but there should be enough benegicial bacteria to handle your bioload now and when you move to the new tank. Just know that if the rock you add has any nutrients, they can cause an algae outbreak. Algae will hold on to those new rock surfaces more readily than surfaces that are populated by bacteria

Ah I've been there. First make sure it's not your test kit. You want to test a sample of ro water and make sure it reads zero and a sample of fresh salt mix make sure that reads in the range from the manufacturer. If your test kit is good, then check your salinity, I hear that low salinity can be an issue with that. It's pretty uncommon for mag to just disapear.

Not necessarily, I would recommend testing the water from the collection site. What's the calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, phosphate, nitrate? Those are the main ones but even better would be to do an icp analysis of it to check for other contaminates or heavy metals. If it's within your desired levels, collect away. You could also run it through a UV sterilizer if you want to make sure there are no dangerous bacterias or other pests.

@RealReefingTV6 жыл бұрын
Your water isn't typically stripped completely, rather just lower than desirable. In this case you take out the water with diminished elements and replace it with water that has slightly higher than desired levels. this will often keep a lps or softie tank at desirable levels.

@@RealReefingTV not sure if you changed your view on this but you dont need to acclimate corals. they are self acclimating to everything other than salinity but even that has some give. there is approximately zero coral wholesalers and big vendors who do this because its not even possible with the volumes they bring in. imagine bringing in 50 boxes of coral and acclimating them all lol. you would have to have a separate system for that alone. also the common knowledge is that you dont want to do big swings in parameters over short periods of time but no one is acclimating corals very long let alone 24 hours so that argument is invalid since common acclimation is rarely longer than an hour or two.

This is a good point I didn't think about. Especially if you have them developed. Google photos does a good job of keeping them in order though.

It's always good to explain why it's likely bad so people know why. It's because you can bring all sorts of random bacteria and problems into your tank. The beaches especially don't have great clean water and bringing that junk into your tank won't be great.

This guy starts his video by showing me a small tank, with a small light hanging over it, with a huge rock in it then proceeds to ask me to subscribe because I'm new here. No thanks. Pass.

We do not need an RO unit true make the tab waters fresh.. these electronic equipment that these people sell is all about money
@RealReefingTV6 жыл бұрын
Have you tested your tap water? Pick up a TDS meter and test. I know what my RO unit pulls out of my water so I trust 100% that it is needed. Unless your water is sourced from a mountain glacier, Chances are it has stuff your corals and fish don't want to live in.

Well let’s see Degree in marine biology scrubs dived most of my life owned three wholesale houses marine and freshwater. Was a voluntary adviser for the Boston aquarium 30 years ago. Keeping marine fish is a money pit. Most people drop out the first year count there losses and move on. Very few can keep them alive for any length of time. Small fish big tank eg. dominos s. Majors etc. Let’s see all your aquariums I see a tiny one. I caught my own fish in the keys and Hawaii. Can be kept by very few people for long periods of time. If your new save your money go fresh water fish only. Follow the basic rules of fish keeping the biggest bummer is going salt water watching your money and aquarium crash.

I've been keeping a reef tank for the last 8 years, go watch my other videos and you will see my 300 gallon reef. I've had small setbacks along the way but I've never had an entire system crash. The technology has come a long way and keeping a reef tank stable is easier than ever. Is it expensive? Yes. No doubt about it. Will you lose fish or coral along the way? Yes but I've grown way more coral than I've ever lost. This is a hobby of love. Done right these water boxes arent coffins they are where life can thrive.
