I'm so happy you featured Xeryus Rouge. I picked it up a couple years ago and keep going back to it for it's versatility and uniqueness. I think it works in so many situations, barring hot summer days, and can be simultaneously classy and exotic. The cactus note in it smells of a freshly opened jar of diced prickly pear, aka nopales. You also get a realistic pimento note which I love. Very underrated.

Kudos for including HdP 1740 - you surprised me with this one. It's a great one for mixing it up now and then. I have Chanel Platinum Egoïste; it definitely belongs in this group. I think of it as "old reliable". To your list I'd add TF Noir Anthracite - similar vibe to PE but less of a throwback feel for me; and also Etat Libre d'Orange's Eloge du Traitre - it reminds me of smell of the local Quaker meeting hall with pine floors waxed to within an inch of their lives; sorta like a cleaned-up and suited-up Yatagan. Great - and useful - list. I'll have to get my nose on Rocabar now.

Creed Viking took some time to grow on me. I wasn't a fan of the overdose of pink pepper in the opening, but I've come to expect it and not mind it at all. The drydown isn't a slouch either, and I really like it. Overall, I think it's a solid fragrance that can be worn in any situation during the winter, and I will be giving it some usage as soon as fall starts

Xeryus Rouge was my signature fragrance of the late 90s. The vintage bottle is lot nicer, if you can find one. The fragrance seems to have changed little over the years, though. It is a very unique scent and I still love it

La Coste “Essential” Light, fresh, citrus and not strong. Dries down masculine. Not overpowering, but hot weather brings it out. Spray away! You can get it for $20-25 Salvatore Ferragamo “Pour Homme.” Very light citrus, dry, herbal, woody and v-e-r-y masculine. Manly men won’t complain. Not a date night scent. Go light on the sprays. It works well in the heat, but you can smell it in moderate warmth too. Hard to find. John Varvatos “Artisan Blue” Green and fresh, it has some wodsiness and it’s a bit sweeter than the other two. Still, very masculine. It’s my third choice. Go light on this one too.

Drakkar Intense is a DIRECT flanker of the original Drakkar. The reason this has a modern-barbershop feel is because they did the same thing Drakkar Noir did with older fougeres of its time/day: modernize it.

I have Rocabar and Platinum Egoïste - actually I still have a bit left in my original aftershave bottle from the early 1990's - but on my skin Viking just smells like cloves and nothing else, which is annoying because I liked it on paper. Imo it is pretty wearable for younger guys too. A friend of mine is 22 and viking is his signature. I never felt like it smelled "old manish" or dated on him. The rose and mint combination gives it kind of a cooling sweetness that smells absolutely great in the air.

@@Detman101 In other words, it's a perfect office fragrance for middle aged dudes like myself :). I think the problem with Zino is that it's an expensive, luxurious smelling fragrance but it doesn't have the performance to be worn in the situations that warrant it. For special occasions and outings, I moved on to Initio Side Effect and Layton, but for a more mature gentleman (40+), as a daily driver, refined and masculine, while staying polite and understated, Zino is fantastic, there's really nothing quite like it out there. There are other great office frags of course, just not in this category of scents, at least nothing I've been able to find.
@Detman101 Жыл бұрын
@@AbcDino843 I guess you have a point. For less than $20 a bottle now, I could bathe in it and at least get a personal bubble of Zino. Back in the day when I wore it in high school I was paying $70 a bottle and never even finished the first one til I was in my 40s...lol. That 50ml bottle lasted, literally, FOREVER! (1993 - 2013)....
