I think Matell made a series of Spy toys in the early 60s inspired by the new (at that time) James Bond character and movies. A transistor radio that opened up into a Lugar type pistol, a larger portable radio that opened up into a rifle, a briefcase that had a pistol on the inside and would shoot out of a hole in the side, Six Finger, a spring loaded fake finger that would shoot a dart, and I had them all! We would then take turns throwing a relatively heavy ball, like a golf ball, with the goal of burying the soldiers. Once covered they were considered dead. Those games could take a loooong time. My older brother was a child in the 1960s. He had a few GI Joe, and there was on with mustache and short beard, and a scar on his cheek. I was yet a toddler and I liked that one! He and older sister had also an Etch-a-Sketch. That’s a great toy, and we all used it plenty. This original is still at my parent’s house. Many children and grandchildren all have played with that. Toys seem to have been quite sturdy back then.

I had all of them. I liked the Spirograph best and still have it and I’m 70 years old!

Wow!G.I.Joe. he brings back memories. All my mates had one and we always saved our money to buy new uniforms and various bits and pieces. We had endless months of play. We even dug foxholes for them. I think i had about 6 various themes of Gi joe. Great times and fond memories.👍👍

I remember every single toy on this list. I ate everything my younger sister baked in her Easy Bake oven and when she wasn't around I'd bake a few things for myself. My favorite toy on the list was my G.I. Joe. Sometimes Barbie was G.I. Joe's girlfriend (When there was nobody else to play with but my little sister). But what I remember best were all the "war toys" we had to play with in the early Sixties. We lived in a developing community on Long Island, NY and there were still plenty of open space and "woods" to play "Army" in. Movies like "The Longest Day" and tv shows like "Combat!" helped to fuel our "war-lust" and toy makers were glad to provide us with an armory of toy weaponry. Realistic looking stuff too! Military pistols, rifles, machine guns, grenades, helmets, uniforms and lots of other military stuff. I used to love to play army with my friends and we liked to dig "fox holes" lots of them, in nearby open fields. Grown ups were afraid of walking their dogs in these fields as we had them cleverly camouflaged. It was a lot of fun being a kid in the early Sixties! The Vietnam War changed that and by the Seventies war toys became very unpopular and toy manufacturers stopped making them.

I was a lucky 60s kid, had many of these great, fun toys, good memories. Mom used to save S&H Green Stamps , Gold Bonds to get cool toys for Christmas .🙂

I remember all of these toys. My sister and I each had an Etch-a-Sketch, she had a Chatty Cathy doll as well as a Fun Flowers Thingmaker pack (I still have my Vac-U-Form; the molds fit on its heating element), and I still have my Lite Brite with its original packaging, with the $5.35 price, marked with a grease pencil, on one of the end flaps.

My friends and I had 12" GI Joes. We used to borrow the girls Barbies so they would have girlfriends cause everyone one knows that Ken is sold with Barbie but she comes with GI Joe ! 👊🤣👍

Gi Joes were my favorites as a kid. We so looked forward to the Sears, Christmas Wish book every year.

Those big G.I Joe's were the best. I wasn't even born til the 70s but i played with all my older brothers leftovers from the 60s.

I still have my spirograph from the 60s, no parts missing or broken. Always wanted a lite brite, but we never got one. Loved the thing maker!

I was born in 71, but still played with some of these. I liked both Matchbox and Hot Wheels, but really loved being able to set up the orange tracks and race hot wheels. I never had the patience for the easy bake oven. I’d always take the cake out too early and it was only partially cooked, lol. Plus, I’m exceedingly clumsy and burnt myself regularly. Etch A Sketch, Spirograph, and Lite Bright were probably my favorites, but Rock em sock em robots will always have a special place in my heart. Honestly, I’d still use lite brite and Spirograph lol

I always wanted a Johnny Seven O.M.A......but my parents weren't toy gun people.

During the first "Toy Story" movie, the movie's villain is shown blowing up a "Combat Carl" action figure, presumably because Hasbro wouldn't let the producers use a "G.I. Joe"; I wonder if Hasbro hasn't regretted that decision.

My favorite toy was "Hot Wheels " and a very close second was "Lite Brite"! I'm 65 years old now, but growing up in the 60's was great!😊

Lite Bright was one of my favorite toys, right after my record player. I bought that newer version of Creepy Crawlers for my son and the outer plastic melted!! That thing could have burned the house down!

Great. I now have the Light-brite song stuck in my head. I think we broke Rockem Sockem on Christmas day. I also had Lincoln logs, Kerplunk, Skittles, Hotwheels, erector set & a cool little microscope with specimen slides. I had the G.I. Joe Command vehicle.
