I’ve lived in Florida for over 15 years now. Everything you’re saying is 1000% on point. I’m a millennial and it’s becoming nearly impossible to survive. I’m struggling so bad. The traffic is insane, the insurance industry is completely ridiculous here. The only people who seem to be able to afford everything are people from up north who want to brag how “cheap Florida is” and who do nothing but bitch and complain how their waitress didn’t get them their vodka martini fast enough. It’s a state where if you are rich you love it; if you’re middle class, well don’t expect to be middle- class for long, as all your savings will be depleted and your debt will only rise, and if you’re poor, well, you might as well just call it a day and get 3 roommates. It’s become so bad. Rents have skyrocketed over 200 % in the last 2 years, traffic is insane, and the costs of EVERYTHING has gone up immensely. The only people who can really afford to live here anymore are all the rich ones who come here to retire. They want all these service and hospitality workers to take care of them but the workers can’t even find an affordable place to live these days! You’ll see a home get bought, and then two months later it’s been listed on the market again for $200k more-and I’ll add, not one single improvement done to the house. I wish I could say that I am lying but I’m not. Ffs, something has got to give. It’s an absolute disaster.

That’s because people who are sick and tired of crime in the northern states are flocking to Florida in droves thus driving everything through the roof worst of all houses, if people would get their act together in their own northern states and become like Florida, they would be very happy in their states, but no, they won’t. They elect these liberal governors which loves crime and will do nothing about the people

Moved there last year, paid mad money for insurance , auto and homeowners, the afternoons were so humid and hot you couldn’t even stand outside for 5 mins without becoming a sweat factory and collapsing from the heat. Then it’s true, the traffic is terrible ! Always expect traveling delays. Oh then are the poisonous cane toads that will kill your dog if he eats them. And then best of all hurricane Ian, tore of the back roof of my mobile home while I watched the home across the streets whole roof lift up, crack in half and hit the house next to it. A month after another hurricane not as bad but still damaging some homes. Over all, the beauty of Florida is not worth the pain. I moved back to NYS and will never look back, of course I lost close to 30 gs between the two moves almost a year to the day. Never Again 😢

Every one of your 10 points are spot on .... and you could go on and on with many more....like Red Tide every year, that makes it hard to enjoy the coastal beach and fishing. We retired to SWFL 17 yrs ago and loved it for the most part of 10-12 yrs. But as time passed and our small coastal city saw more and more development, more traffic & crowds, more dangerous storms, rising insurance rates and taxes, it lost its promise of paradise in the sun! We took advantage of the crazy high home values and sold our home last year and moved out of FL ...luckily just before hurricane Ian hit. Florida is not such a great place for real-estate investment now and there are many better places to retire to, IMO.

I am a 3rd generation Floridian and everything said in this video is absolutely true. If I were younger I would get out of here. It is very hard to get anywhere and there are few public services available because so many people have moved here and few politicians have worried about their citizens and infrastructure. It is a developer's dream and a home owner and condo owner's nightmare. Many contractors have been allowed to build on city dumps and high rise condos on just dredged up sand with little checks on stability and safety. The highways are always congested no matter what the hour and a simple 15 minute drive somewhere often takes over an hour. We have had to find a new insurance company every year and constantly have to have home inspections and upgrade our home just to be accepted by an insurance company. If your roof is older than 10 years no insurance company will cover you until you get a new roof.

Just stay away from the larger metro areas. Small coastal town living in Florida since 1957, with a few years in Orlando and then St. Pete areas for college. In 1980s Orlando area (lightning capital) was actually quite nice. Now it's a nightmare for traffic and people. St. Pete/Pinellas county also now a nightmare. Many in Pinellas moved north to Pasco county, which has now made it more of a nightmare with people and traffic. Yes there have been changes over the decades with growth even in less populated areas. Just stick to the still less populated areas, whether coastal or in the interior (FL is a good 3 hours or more drive wide, of course panhandle much wider). Just know the interior is generally cooler in the winter and hotter in the summer. Real estate is definitely expensive but do see prices declining due to lessened demand and higher interest rates. Still no state income tax in FL and once you have your homestead it is protected from future property tax value increases limited to 3% of the property value if at all. Insurance is affordable if you are not on the water and the home is built to standards that were effective after Hurricane Andrew. (Have lived through MANY hurricanes since 1957). Sure, hurricanes can be scary, but ask them in the upper gulf coast or the Carolinas about hurricanes! Hospitals and medical care are accessible nearby even if not right in your town. There is no perfect place to live, but still would not want to live anywhere else after spending sweltering humid summers in Boston, Maine, and other NE areas, as well as the Carolinas, while it was cooler in FL! Hot summers, but mild winters, beautiful fall and spring, no shoveling snow. But please don't let this info from personal experience stop you from moving SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Native floridian here....1) please don't move here!!! 2) we are over populated 3) No exaggeration, all the trees are being cut down to build houses causing air pollution and water pollution I'll explain below 4) we used to grow oranges and now all we grow is cement, concrete, car washes to wash all these emission producing cars, 5) Sink holes up the ying yang, 6) in 2023 taxes are sky high!!!!! Mucho dinero. My home taxes went from 1,900 to just under 6k raising my mortgage by $700 a month on a fix 2.5% interest rate 7) sky high home insurance 8) sky high car insurance 9) bumper to bumper traffic jams in Hillsborough County, Miami, orlando, and all other metro counties from 6am to 8pm. No longer is traffic heavy from 7am to 9am and 4pm to 6pm. Insead traffic is jammed ALL DAY LONG. 10) hurricane Irma, Ian tore us a new @** hole literally, 11) because so many people are moving here the prices of groceries and gas ( cost of living) is sky high because demand is high. We cant blame inflation for this one. High demand equals high costs. When we cut down all the trees to build concrete the sky becomes pollured because there are not enough trees to filter the air and produce oxygen. Also when those trees are cut down the soils becomere demineralized and cause water wash off into the waterways that then cause red tied, blue green algae, flesh eating bacteria etc. This is what's happening to Florida.

Well, although that was a truthful video, here is the other truth. Florida, especially Southwest Florida was undervalued for years. It is true that the housing and carrying cost have become much higher, a large part of the reason is that it is an excellent place to live. I think if you compare it to other desirable markets, it compares favorably. The no state tax that you maybe should have mentioned mitigates some of the other cost. I have been here since the early 70s, and I miss some of the rural life that has evolved to where we are now. With that said, it finally makes sense to me, I never understood why people didn't come sooner. Good points on checking the total cost before you come, it is hot and humid in the summer, but it is also paradise to some of us, now its just priced appropriately. I've been all over the U.S. there is nothing like Florida in my book.

It’s not as affordable as it was back in the day. Today people who are retiring in 2023, and years into the future, will find many additional expenses. as it gets more unaffordable. It has always been essential to look at HOA reserves. I do agree with you about car insurance. We get a lot of advance warning on hurricanes. I just replaced my roof with high quality roofing. I'm right now replacing my glass sliding doors with hurricane resistant window sliders. Rated much higher than any hurricane that's made landfall recorded. No more shutters to put up before hurricane warnings. Love it here. Lived 24 years in Ohio, 19 in Atlanta, and last 32 years 4 miles from the Atlantic Ocean here in Florida. I've had flood insurance since the last back to back hurricanes hit where I live in 2004. I'm not in a flood zone but it can flood anywhere. It's far less costly by far than the repairs after an uninsured loss due to flooding. I have Social security Income ( I worked to age 67), a nice little pension for 22 years working in Florida with FRS, and a small IRA.

They are a scam for the most part. Avoid an association at all costs. Most boards are NOT in your best interest as an owner. You can't pick your neighbors regardless, but I'd much rather have a traditional home with no HOA and noone telling me how to live other than paying taxes and my own land to do as I wish with.

I grew up in a small town in rural Northeastern state. If you move to Florida, and want big city life on the beach expect to pay big bucks. Like small town living up north, everything is cheaper, and the same in Florida. I realize people gravitate to the beach community's in Florida, because that the lifestyle they always read about. Northern Florida is very different, much less expensive and lots of small towns. Same up north, prices are always high as NYC or Boston are included in the costs, Costs and taxes are much lower in small towns.

Don't get me wrong I have lived here all my life & I love my city, Miami, and I love the State of Florida. However, it is not as paradisiacal as people make it sound. Due to the influx of people & merciless builders, Florida is super overcrowded. Take Sarasota where my son lives. Traffic there is really bad and not a day goes by without an accident on I-75. I live 10 minutes away from downtown Miami where I work, but it takes me at least 45 minutes to get home due to the traffic. Yes, it has beautiful beaches, but good luck finding affordable parking in Miami Beach. Builders & Realtors misinform people in order to make money. Do your research before moving down here folks!! The grass is not always greener on the other side.

Owned in Ormond Beach a retirement home over the past 6 years. Now retired we’re opting to sell, the attributed cost of ownership has doubled month to month. With that stated it’s still a cost of living bargain to reside in some parts of Florida in comparison to our small city Maine home, taxes are 1/2, car registration is about 30%, no income tax etc. You just need to ask yourself, do you truly fit the Floridian lifestyle? If unsure be smart and rent before buying a home for 4 or 5 months and test drive the lifestyle.

I'm a fifth generation Florida Native and I've watched my state go through so many changes. Too many people have come to Florida to escape the big, overcrowded, expensive cities only to find that they brought all those long lines with them. They came here because it was cheaper, failing to recognize that in many areas we didn't have the infrastructure or services that their former cities provided. Now they want those services and conveniences, but don't want their taxes to go up. I grew up learning to drive on old limerock roads where you didn't see another vehicle for miles. Now all those roads are paved and have streetlights and sidewalks. The wooded areas where I used to camp, hunt, fish and just enjoy are all developed. We used to go to the beach and park on the sand and as kids, play in the dunes. Now those dunes are gone and condos restrict beach access. So when I hear people complain about how expensive Florida has become, I just want to tell them that contrary to popular belief, I-95 and I-75 operate in both directions. By the way, Florida is JUMANJI. We have every kind of danger you can imagine and some you simply can't believe. You never know what's going to happen next!

Hate to break it to everyone, but taxes and inflation have skyrocketed everywhere. That is the reality of the current economy. Great job Brandon. We left Arizona for the same reason. When we moved there in 2011 the cost of living was very affordable. We bought our manufactured 1800 sq ft home for 22k. When we moved 10 years later the price we sold it for was 85k. So many remote workers who ruined their own state (California) discovered they could move a few hundred miles east and keep their crazy cali wages while destroying the housing market for native Arizonians. Your right it's a big problem. The Florida home insurance market has spent most of 2022 tumbling toward collapse. This crisis is happening! Many homeowners have received a cancellation or nonrenewal notice on there homeowners insurance policy as insurance companies go bankrupt or pull out of the state. Florida accounts for 9 percent of the nations home insurance claims and 79 percent of the nations home insurance lawsuits. The companies see Florida as a risky market to due to the high threat of widespread weather-related damage. Because Florida has the highest risk of catastrophe of any state, Florida homeowners insurance typically costs much more than the national average and those rates will be increasing in the future as well. Thanks for watchings and commenting.

So even if you don't live near the water or in a designated flood zone your home must have flood insurance?

Many insurance companies are making these a requirement, especially Citizens. The Florida legislature passed Senate Bill 2-A in December 2022 which requires Citizens Insurance to mandate its policyholders purchase flood insurance. Thanks for watching

They have 2" flying roaches that are active at night and will fly at open doors, and mosquito like bugs called night watchman that swarm and are attracted to well lit windows and porch lights. They have snakes big and small that can get into odd places inside your house (some have been known to come up through the sewer system) , if you live near the water ways you might find alligators large and small in your yard. The gulf side of Florida is more humid than the Ocean side but both sides have rising damp from the cement pads the houses are built on so mildew is a constant issue. Spring on the east coast is over whelmed with the bikers, college students on break and tourists that have no care for the traffic laws, private property and human decency depending on how drunk/stoned/high they are. Then you have a governor who is trying to turn the state into a dictatorship with unrealistic limitations and expectations of the residents. So save yourself some headaches and look elsewhere

Flood insurance: The requirement applies only to property owners who have coverage through Citizens Property Insurance, which has become the state’s largest property insurer. Citizens covers 1.2 million properties - nearly triple the number it covered three years ago. All policyholders will have to purchase flood insurance regardless of whether they’re in areas prone to inundation. The requirement will be phased in over the next four years, starting in April with people who own property in a flood zone. Citizens policyholders can avoid the mandate by dropping their policies and purchasing property coverage through a private-sector insurer.

Our auto insurance jumped up by over 1/3 after we moved to Myrtle Beach in 2021. They said it was due to the area and not my driving record? The traffic here is much worse than it use to be when we vacationed here over the years.

Can you check your facts on the new mandate for flood insurance in Florida? The way I read it is that the Federal government requires homeowners with federally backed mortgages (most mortgages?) who are in a flood zone to buy flood insurance. The new State law for flood insurance is that anyone who has the state insurance (Citizens) has to add a flood policy from them sometime in the coming years.

I don't believe any law mandates insurance here. If you have no mortgage then you can go without. Many of my neighbors (with no mortgage) have given up on the high rates and don't carry any home insurance.

@@8180634 : The legislators passed a law in Dec. mandating flood insurance for anyone who has Citizens Insurance (Florida State Insurance,) and anyone who has a government backed mortgage (most homeowners) and lives in a flood zone is required to buy flood insurance.
