Bonus question is phrased a bit fuzzy. AS ASKED, the answer is 4. the first 4 balls drawn *could* be the same color. But I assume he means "What's the minimum number of balls you must draw at random to BE CERTAIN to have four same colored balls drawn?" Then the worst-case scenario is where you draw 3 of each before getting a 4th, thus 13 balls total.

In the last Bonus Riddle the solution is : minimum 13 balls to be drawn, that is N*(4-1)+1 being N the number of bags / the number of colors. In the first 4*(4-1)=12 draws I could be so unlucky to draw 3 balls of the first color + 3 balls of the second color + 3 balls of the third color + 3 balls of the fourth/last color, but with the 13th draw I will certainly have 4 balls of the same colour.
@sahilpatil99573 жыл бұрын
You are telling about maximum number of balls. The question is minimum, so the answer is 4.
@DarkVoidIII3 жыл бұрын
@@sahilpatil9957 No, the question asked them to be *drawn at random*. If drawn at random, any colored ball could come out. And he could get the following sequence red, black, green, blue repeated 4 times, before he got a 4th ball of any of the 4 colors in the bag! 4 x 3 ball of each color = 12, so you should understand properly that the problem is randomness of the draw. This could be shown by writing a computer program to randomly draw balls until it got 4 of the same color. It's also algorithmically sound. It is possible that the 13th ball will have to be drawn before guaranteeing a 4th color of one of the 4 colored balls in the bag, and this is what the question was asking: how many minimum would they have to draw, in the worst case randomness scenario.

The last question depends on what you are looking: Least number of balls to have 4 of the same colour is 4. But depending on the colour statistics vary. To ensure you get 4 balls of the same colour is 13. By the 12th picked ball worst scenario you have 3 balls of each colour, the number 13th makes you get the 4th desired ball.

The First Riddle is Misleading because there is Several Methods of understanding this. Option A: Divide by Half means Divide by Half of the Number which would be 15 thus bringing the Result down to 2+12 which come to 14. Option B: Divide by Half means Divide by Half of One. Which would be 0.5 and thus result in 60 + 12 for 72. Option C: Divide by Half means to Divide it INTO Half which would be 2 and thus bring the Result to 15+12 which would be 27. So this is a Trap Riddle. Because whatever Answer your Opposite Chooses you can just Claim its meant Differently and thus change the Result.

Shaking my head at the mansplaining going on here. No one says divide by "half of one". A mathematician would say divide by "one half" which can be shortened to just "half". Your Option A is nonsensical. Your Option C confuses the prepositions "by" and "into"; they're not interchangeable. Yes, you can argue it's deliberately misleading, but that's the point: it's a riddle. It deliberately causes most people to interpret the question as "divide into half" as may be used in casual conversation, but if you look at it logically there was no ambiguity and the answer was obvious.

Its Trick Questions. Because the Answer can be Changed at will by Interpretion of the one who Asks.
First question depends on your native language a lot. In Russian a phrase like that "поделите 30 пополам" sounds absolutelly normal and means "split 30 in 2". Likewise it would be "divide 30 by zero five" cause zero five is what we say about 0.5L of Vodka.

It is the same in English- a much more common phrase wd be "divide 30 IN half" not BY half so it is intentionally misleading,considering NORMAL patterns of speech but that's the whole point of riddles isn't it? Also lawyers decoding contracts into what they ACTUALLY say. There is so much sloppy use of basic maths language today that many people end up talking complete nonsense but being understood by people who are used to hearing(and internally translating that nonsense into something that adds up e.g. "House no1 costs 100K.The cost of house no2 is 5 times less." - utter jibberish i.e the second house costs -400K! 1 time less = 100K less i.e. zero,etc. I'm sure one doesn't need to be an unscrupulous conman or marketing rookie to abuse fractions in a misleading way :-)

Question 1 uses English improperly so the question itself is flawed. The correct way to ask the question is, "30 divided by ONE HALF." Native English speakers will automatically infer that "half" means half of whatever the subject is, in this case the number 30. The correct response to question 1 is another question, "30 divided by half of what?" I'd say that this is more a trick English question than a math problem. If I used this question in an interview, I would be most impressed with the people who responded with questions to clarify and not at all impressed with anyone who gave me a number answer.

I must admit that your comment is 100% valid. Specially the last sentence.
@Vearru5 жыл бұрын
While grammatically the question might be invalid mathematically it most definitely is valid. When saying you’re dividing something by something you know that that something is a number or representative of a number. Also saying, half while not completely conventional isn’t going to be misunderstood, and in a somewhat conventional way objectively means 1/2. The reason why it makes sense is because 1 is the multiplicative identity (when multiplying anything by it the value will remain unchanged) when you leave a value blank in a multiplicative context it is reasonable to assume it is 1. Of course half implies n/2 regardless of what n is. Therefore by stating you are dividing something by half it implies you are dividing by /2 which in this context would look like 30/ /2 +12 and that clearly means 30*2+12 (it is common knowledge that dividing by a fraction is simply multiplying by it’s inverse). Unless you are looking at a purely mathematical job though the best answer to that question is definitely asking for clarification.

For the bonus riddle, the answer is four balls would be the minimum that is needed to be drawn to get four of the same color. The reason is that you could theoretically be extremely lucky and get all of the first four as the same color. The probability of this event is not as high as drawing out different colored balls, but it is not zero, so it is a situation that exists and must be considered.

The ans to the asked question in last is 13 and 4 can also be but 4 is about probability. Otherwise 13 gives 100% chance! The answer to the first problem is 14, because when one says "divide by half", it means to take the number (i.e., 30) and divide it by one-half of *itself,* not 2, and not simply one-half (which is the same as multiplying by 2). Therefore, 30 ÷ (1/2 × 30) + 12 = 14.

@@Bech285 no it doesn’t, by half means 30/0.5. In half means 30/2 that’s what it means in English
@KemosabeTBC2 жыл бұрын
@@suhaibmukhlis8662 No it's not what it means in English. If you want to divide by 0.5 you should say "divide by one half" or "divide by a half". If you simply say by "half" then half of what? It is implicitly saying half of itself. Is this the English that is taught in India? In a different video there was some guy from India trying to convince people that "alphabet" can be used describe a letter when it can't, neither in the US nor UK, an alphabet is a *set* of letters, never a single letter, but apparently you can say "'I' is an alphabet" in India.

If these are interviews questions, you're better off not taking the job. You'll be doing twice, or more, the work trying to figure if their English should be taken literally or by common usage. There are are good interview puzzles that allowed me to see how you think, work through a problem and ask clarifying questions. These questions aren't those and I wouldn't use them.

@@smitesmatesmote5328 No no no, maximum number would be: all of them = 22. 13 is minimum number when, no matter which balls you will take, at random, you will always have 4 in one color. This is called "dirichlet drawer principle", if somebody wants to check it out. If you take anything less than 13, you won't always get 4 same colored. If it wasn't "at random" you could just take 4 at same color every time, not a big deal. But it is random.

Bonus Question: minimum number “needed” to get 4 balls of the same color is 4, as even though the odds of doing this are small, they are never zero. The minimum number guaranteed to draw 4 of the same color is 13, as even if you get one of each color 3 different times, the last one will complete a set of 4 no matter what. Then there’s the mathematical way to figure out the average number of draws it would take to obtain 4 of one color, but that’s too long to type here and I really don’t feel like doing that work right now.

It’s a deliberately ambiguous question. Depending on how one interprets “divide 30 by half”....it could be read as any of the following, without being incorrect.... “divide 30 by half (of 30)” ...30/15 ; “divide 30 by (a) half ... 30/.5. ; “ divide 30 (in) half “ ...30/2. There’s a big difference between asking tricky questions and asking trick questions.

I think 4 too, it's a bit of a trick question. If you by chance pick 4 of the same colour in a row you're done. When the question would have been differently formulated, like "what's the maximum amount of blind picks you will have to make to get four balls if the same colour?", the answer would be 13, because after 12 picks there would still be a chance that you would have 3 balls of each colour, but the 13th pick would make one set of 4 complete.
