@@Leastmachine Depends what kind of player you are. Some people are completionists and need to talk to every NPC, get every treasure, explore every nook of every field and dungeon, complete in game bestiary, max level their characters, max out skills, find all the secrets, complete every quest, beat every optional boss etc. It takes a long time to do it all. Average playthrough with average side content is usually in the 40-50 hour range as you pointed out.
@Leastmachine Жыл бұрын
@@acidwizard6528 I'm a pretty aggressive completionist. I like to get my money's worth out of a game, so to speak. I would struggle to make most rpgs last longer than 70 hours, short of silly things like grinding enough money to buy a stack of 99 of every item in the game. You would have to artificially inflate your play time to an extreme degree in order to make every game last more than a hundred hours.

I know how you feel on that. Too many games to choose from these days so I'm trying to stick with titles I know will be good or titles in a series to one that I have experienced to be good. For example I really like the tales games and I've played I think two of them and if possible I would like to play through all of their games. Same for the final fantasy games even though in both series they have had their duds to an extent. As for games I know will be good, I don't have any examples off the top of my head right now. Either way, even from the titles that are considered good I will only play through them once, though if I like the series enough I will try to get all the achievements. Exception to this are mmo games I like but I typically stick to the more known titles. Even then the only mmo title I can say I am current on is Final Fantasy XIV and really mmo games are the only games I would "play again" and a lot of that has to do with the fact that they still release new content anyway. If an mmo got to a point where no further relevant content was released I would likely beat whatever story it has if any and then stop playing unless I liked the game enough to attempt to go after all the achievements. Unfortunately this is extremely difficult to do in an mmo.

For anyone who played Zestiria and wants to know how much worse it can get: I recorded a let's play of Zestiria as my 2nd playthrough. I intentionally did the final battle off screen as to do the post game dungeon before the final boss on camera. Little did I know that doing so would put the fuse mechanic to its peak annoyance since the final boss not only doubled in level as a result of me beating the post game dungeon, but the final boss also gained resistance to every attack element (including null), so I had to give each character armor and weapons with skills that aligned 7 in a row to grant elemental resistance nullification. It forced me to spend about an additional month off screen preparing and it was agonizing.

The most common thing about JRPGs, majority of the time, is the lack of replay value. Good or bad JRPGs had all of the similar practice. For me, there are JRPGs I played and mostly beaten: - Xenoblade series: their stories are great but their MMO FF12 gameplay style felt outdated and not everybody's forte. Even with NG+, I don't wanna spend another 100 or so hours just to play the games again. All Xeno series games had the same issues other than Gears. - Fire Emblem Engage: I beaten past FE titles and played them again even it lacked NG+, however, Engage's story and characters really turned me off and I knew Iw ill never beat the game let alone DLC for how painful the design be. The lack of NG+ really killed it for me and it's a one and done thing. Yes, most FE stories aren't good either but when I am struggling with Engage more than Fates knows it's a really bad sign. - Persona 5: for a game with 100 hours, it is easily worth to play the game again because not only how the story was great and the characters but I had to push myself trying to get the true ending and to maxed out their confidants. - Nier Automata: not really long long JRPG but the replay value was worth it because it felt like I didn't see the true ending and it was their perspectives of how the world works. The story was dark and the characters are well made to give me excitement. - Bravely Default 2: the problem with niche HD2D or similar games is how grindy and hard the games are. Octopath was only one of the many games from SE that I just can't see myself playing again after beating it.

Don't worry on D2, grinding to late game for post game content in that game specifically was made to be very obnoxious. Staticians were removed from the game so no exp boosts and the ordeals grind map was changed from a 3x3 that is quickly cleared with big bang was replaced with an 8x2, more enemies but you couldnt sweep them with 1 unit so there wasnt much point to reincarnation grind much. Exp boosts was instead gained by felonies, which you find randomly in the item world, and gave you 1-10 depending on the level of felony you choose, thsi caps out at 300 (1% per felony) so needless to say it takes a long time for little gain and it stops counting at 99 so you need to pen and paper keep track of it. The only plus side is that you can throw a stack of characters on the warp for them to all get it, but this also means that you cant really put these on monsters effectively and only 9 at a time since you need 1 of them to throw the stack.

The only two games I’ve played on this list are tales of this Zestiria and star ocean 5 unfortunately but I would probably never beat them again, either for pretty much the same reasons as you had- unlike most people that play games for the gameplay, I like to pay more attention to the story and the characters and neither of these games really did it for me.💔 The old saying “don’t judge a book by its cover“ well it’s never been a problem following that logic with people or books, but with games I’m just a little too judgmental about what I’m gonna be looking at for 80+ hours! SO5 and Zestiria had the cute anime art style that always got me, and still does to some extent. The only reason I remember anything about the ending to zestiria is because of Berseria being the epic prequel that did not make me stop thinking about how the game is connected throughout playing the game “OMG I remember being here before in the last game, which part of the math is this?!“ I remember being so excited to figure things out! It was so cool. And the twist at the end was the cherry on top, of course - Sorey going on about this unseen deity all through the game, and finally understanding everything about him in a completely different game that came out two years later utterly blew my mind, and I loved it Surprisingly, I didn’t love or care about anything that happened in the star ocean title, the only reason I played it was because of the graphics, and the promise of it being like “till the end of Time“ I had faith in it before it came out because of all the promotional stuff, the characters had similar but updated graphics similar to the characters in SO3 and the vistas were top-tier… I kept hoping the story would at least start to Dee entertaining and make sense, I have never played a game that just ended with a pitiful whimper of joy and togetherness🤣🤣🤣🤣💔🤣💔🤣💔💔

Tales of zest is good but it's boring until the 9 hour mark then 18 Hour and finally the 27 hour mark finally makes me start to love it, final boss wasn't a problem if you use the characters in a particular way but it had a cheap bit right at the end. Star Ocean 5 I only got to chapter 3 before the difficulty spike ruined me and I thought my time is worth more than that trash, yes I loved star Ocean 4 but it did have a few spikes but I found it fun and that was the difference

This was a good list. I guess I disagree only about Octopath and Xenogears. In Octo's case I just don't remember the game being that difficult, (barring the optional bosses), but maybe that's just me? For Xeno, you correctly describe every problem it has. It's just... it's strengths are SO strong, that they more than forgive the game's problems. Still, you're right there isn't a game on the PLANET (imo) that needs a remake more than Xenogears. Game's a masterpiece even with its huge flaws, it'd be transcendent without them.

I plan to beat (almost) Zestiria once again, because i liked it - but yeah, final boss was a totally unfair shit, i just ragequit and watched its ending on youtube...

Beyond Oasis for the Sega Genesis. Such hard difficulty spikes. I’ll never revisit it again even though I honestly did enjoy my time and finished it.

I beat Xenogears probably once every 2 years. I want a remake so bad!

Wow, 3 games in this video I've actually played? I also beat Zestiria only once. That was enough for me. I don't know why it's so disliked either when I thought it was just okay. I actually beat Disgaea 2 twice, but that was years ago. I like how the later games in the series all have post game stuff that I really want to complete but the grinding is always too much for me to handle and I end up quitting after a few days. If anyone can tell me how to make the grinding faster or a little more bearable, I'd like that very much. I also played through Octopath (the first one, I'm not finished playing the second game yet) and I was a bit disappointed to find out that after finishing all the stories, there wasn't much else to do. I'm really liking Octopath 2 though. Long comment. Sorry.

Disgaea 2 is gold, but to revisit and grind all over again? Nah 💀

Completely agree with rogue galaxy and xenogears, now what about games that you would replay several times, did you make a video already?

Was Star Ocean 5 really that difficult? I distinctly remember there was only 1 battle that I had trouble with and that was a battle where you had to protect someone who didn't have much health and couldn't move. Other than that you have so many characters that even if you lose 4 party members you can use the other 2 to revive them.

The ONLY reason to play xenogears is for the story so definitely no reason to replay that ever

One I would say is Star Ocean The Last Hope. Don’t get me wrong, it was great, but so tedious and I don’t think I have the patience to go through it again lol

Not an RPG but I wouldn’t play BOTW again. It’ll be another 100 hours of my life spent on that game

Tales of Zestiria's last ending left a bad taste in my mouth. Won't say what actually happens, but after having to buy the DLC to see the end only to get left on a friggin cliffhanger that will never be resolved... yeah.

Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Final Fantasy 7 are the only RPG’s I’ve beat multiple times. Put nostalgia aside there just that good in my opinion and fun at that. Octopath I feel wasn’t hard but would I beat it again? Yes, but not till I’m retired so In about 30 years 😂

I like the Disgaea games in general, but I've only played and finished 5 and the initial plan was to get the platinum too, but once it came time to grind, grind, and grind some more I was like "Hell no, I'm out". It just takes WAY too long and is WAY too boring for me at this point.

I've always had this one nitpick with Octopath, and that's making the boss enemies look absolutely massive for no reason. I know that's what old school JRPGs did, but those were also on a fully 2D plane with no depth, and it just looks stupid every time I see it. I dunno why it bugs me so much lol.
@carlosaugusto9821 Жыл бұрын
That looked kinda stupid for no reason in FF6 for example. It's hard to defend that one, that's isn't a very early game btw. And that problem doesn't exist in all rpgs from that same time. It was an odd artistic choice, that's all.

When it comes to J-RPGs, i really find it hard to play them more than once because of the time it usually takes to beat them. If i enjoy the game, then i will do some side stuff but then its over (unless i review it). But if i really love it, then i play through it more than once (i did it with FFVIII, LoD, Shadow Hearts 1 and 2, Legaia 2, Star Ocean 3, FFX, Tales of Eternia, etc). Regarding Star Ocean 5 tho................yeah, i never felt so bored with a SO game. I havent played SO6 yet (i have the asian english version and i hope the censorship will be gone there) but from SO1 to SO5, 5 takes the cake for being so boring. I mean, at least the characters had more personality than the ones from SO4.................and yes, sadly SO5 was censored............but otherwise even SO4 floors SO5. Its like Tri-Ace went 1 step forward with SO4 (well, almost) but 3 steps back with SO5 overall. And while this is beyond rare, there are some that i didnt even try to beat. Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter is an example of that where i didnt like the setting, didnt like the characters, didnt like anything about it. Started playing multiple times around 2 hours each, always tried to give it a chance but no dice. The last time i've tried was about 10 years ago tho, so maybe if i played it now, i might find something good about it.
