1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV Bible [1] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; [2] By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. [3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; [4] And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV Bible [8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast. Romans 10:9-13 KJV Bible [9] That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. [10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. [11] For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. [12] For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. [13] For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. John 3:16 KJV Bible For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 14:6 KJV Bible Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Here's a tip that always works on me: Learn 200 of the most common words, watch movies in the language, get friends that are natives of the language (if you don't already have in real life) and talk to them everyday or go to your desired language's part of the social media. If you're learning French, Spanish, German or English, the series "Extra" is really helpful.

Lucas advises us to find your own method that is efficient AND fun, but at 5:08 he says "Focus 80% on language and 20% on grammar." So what do you do, if what is efficient AND fun for you is to BEGIN by focusing 80% on grammar and 20% on vocabulary? I'm a mathematician by training. I like to start by knowing the rules. Answer: Fun and efficient is more important. So I focus more on grammar. Once I understand as much grammar as one would be expected to lean in the first year of a university course, I'm ready to focus 80% on "the language." So after the first month or two, the 80-20 suggestion works for me, too, but not at the beginning. Thanks for the video!

When I started learning Italian, I had a strong enough motivation - my background is Italian and it was always something I wanted to learn. I started learning and lived in Italy for a while, and to be honest, didn't have the best experience. Since then, my motivation has diminished and while I still want to learn (I feel I have come this far), I do it without any enthusiasm/motivation. Anyone felt like this and/or have any advice to overcome a lack of motivation? Motivation is key, and it needs to be genuine enough to stimulate you. Argh.

electric417 try to find new tv shows or youtube channel or youtube teachers you absolutely love so you have a positive emotional connection with the language and want to binge said content. Join a language learning app and try to find a cool person you want to be friends with. come up with new specific goals and visualize them. watch youtube videos of polyglots or people achieving things to inspire you. or maybe just take a short break and come back later. I don’t know. Sometimes motivation goes away temporarily but will come back.
@mxmmagic91174 жыл бұрын
common misconception here. MOTIVATION IS NOT KEY, DISCIPLINE IS. motivation is a feeling that comes and goes, and if you don’t have it, you’re simply not going to get anything done. discipline on the other hand is simply not giving a fuck if you don’t want to study or don’t feel like studying, you’re going to push yourself to day it anyway. once you obtain true discipline for yourself i can guarantee you anything is possible:))

Nice vid. i would also add a tip for polyglotts - learn languages from different language families and different cultures. This helps as surprisingly the more different they are, the more they support each other and the language learning process. For example, I currently study 汉语,Ελληνικά and கமிழ - and this really helps. Because studying Chinese characters is as different from "typical" language learning as music or drawing from language learning, Tamil is really something so new, exotic and thrilling that it fuels the process by itself and Greek is just a relax for me, as my native tongue is Russian and they are as similar as they only could be, considering Greek and Russian are from different groups (but both Indoeuropean).

How to keep motivated while walking down the road of learning a language? From the very beginning I've had my whys to learn and kept asking myself: "This is why I want to learn that language", but either that kind of "motivation" doesn't work for me or my reasons were not strong enough. Great video Luca
@CaptainWumbo4 жыл бұрын
Happened to me too! It takes so long to acquire some languages that things that motivated me in the beginning have changed. My solution was to stop. Then start again when I found another good reason. Then stop again when that changed too. Proud speaker of 1.1 languages! 7 years after starting lol. I say embrace it if you have no real reason to invest the time, you don't know how long you have to enjoy life. Translations are 7/10ths of the way there to enjoying another culture. Whatever time you did put in will still enrich those translations, as you can better guess the intent and nuance.

For me my efforts with French were much harder because I didn't have a good why. I was not at all a good student when in high school French classes. A friend was learning French, so I tried it too, since I thought I knew some already. I was working with Quebecois, but I was studying Metroplitan French, and my coworkers spoke such good English that there was no need to use French, and no encouragement. I tried taking classes, but that was not a good fit for me. This was around 2000, so before any good online resources. Now I am learning Swedish, and it is so much better. I'm learning it because I feel a connection to an online community with lots of encouragement a huge variety of resources. There has never been a better time to be a self-directed learner.

Hallo Luca!

I think looking online for a good resource can actually help. You can do research and read reviews of the material you are considering. In America Bookstores are not as popular anymore with things like Kindles and Ipads. So even if you go to Barnes and Noble bookstore or alike you won't see nearly all the content they provide. You will find much more online. I did some research and I am using Talk To Me In Korean, and I really like it. It's a bilingual learning system, and it's easy to use.

Was mich sehr beeindruckt hat.

Jot down all the possible false ideas you have towards learning language. 03 prepare a plan of attack a. take a piece of paper and jot down the date of reference and from date on tell yourself "I am going to learn that language" b. You can come up with the simple 2-3 goals and ask yourself "what will I able to do within two or three or six months?" c. After that maybe you need 30 min a day or 45 min a day to achieve your goals. d. You have to learn every single day. (Continuity is the crucial.) 04 find one good resource a. Find just one good language learning resource. Don't look on the internet. Find physical book instead. 05 find your method a. Every brain is different. Take a look at your method. It should be enjoyable and efficient. 06 focus on language before grammar a. focus %80 of language %20 of grammar. b. Use grammar of as a reference to help you content. 07 work on phonetics from the start a. you have to learn the sound structure of the language. Take the time and focus sounds. 08 readjust on the go a. It is not a linear process. Readjust your approach. 09 combine digital with paper a. Combine digital with paper. Paper means connection, technology means speed. 10 create rewards along the way a. Sharing, face to face, cultural rewards, books...

I'd like to include phonetics into my lessons. I feel it's an important part of language that's so neglected in any language program especially traditional school programs.

Hi luca, I have one question. How do you know when you finish learning a new language? I realize, we dont even know all of the words in our native language and we can say we speak it and understand it.

That one and only one Language App you wanna try is called Linguitive. Try it and see how fast you can boost your vocabulary in your targeted language. Find it in App Store.

Does it have sense to learn language that I will never use in my whole life as I will never go to that country (Japan) ? Just because I like the languge and culture?

Thanks for both the list and the encouragement! I'd be interested to know more about your experience with Romanian, as it's a language I've struggled with myself.
