Once again Ash we see you demonstrating that locksport isn't just picking. I'm sure this presentation will energize a lot of people and, hopefully, encourage more people to get into the sport. Nice job as always.

Very Nice! I have tried everything but the 3-D printing, casting, and the lock-centric jewelry. What I love about this hobby, is that all it really takes is a small vice, some readily available hand tools, and a desk sized workspace with good light. Oh, and a couple of old chests of drawers to to store all the stuff you are going to wind up collecting over the next year.

as you mentioned "Tool Modification" especially of tools that were never intended to be used on locks ... I had to think of my last tool ... I took a 40mm stainless steel spatula (I bought actually another one, after having that Idea) and glued a printed shape of the sparrows mini jim on it ... it was a hard time for the grinder, but now I have a Jim with a pretty nice handle :)

My Favourite Mod: Purchase some 1/4 ID Thick Walled Brass Tubing from a hobby shop. This is done with full or part picks. Gently tap the length of the pipe to begin crushing it into an oval until you can slip a pick handle into the tubing. Hold the pick in place while you continue gently deforming the tubing with a hammer. When the tubing has grabbed onto the pick you can begin smashing the hell out of it. Once you have good shape you can start the sanding and polishing. Looks fantastic! The down sides are a heavy handle with somewhat muted feedback and you have to chuck the handle when you break the pick. Still, the look is incredible once you buff to a full shine. I used a set of Sparrows Euro hooks as they are quite strong and thick. You can also use cheap Chinese picks with plastic handles. Heat the pick and the plastic handle will slide off when it starts melting. Do not overheat the metal, like red hot, or you will change the metal characteristics and probably end up with Martensite picks. Crumbly!

the first broken pick (and the only one so far after six months ) was a peterson snakerake with blue handle I then turned into a keyring :) this is exactly why lock picking is so fun and relaxing and offers so much because there is so much more to do related to it than just picking a lock . you can make art out of broken lockpicks and locks and you can do so many nice creative things in it self it would take a lifetime. many good ideas offered here , great video :)

Thanks for this one, Ash. 🙂👍 Many people likely discover different aspects of the hobby either accidentally, or through necessity. I made my first proper single purpose pick recently, by modifying a cheap Chinese dimple lock too because the pick I wanted wasn't easily available without buying a full set of picks. It does the job nicely. And as people say, you can never have too many levers.

Very good video's covering all aspects of lock sport, This one one of many i found to be helpful the tips on damaging locks or rather how to avoid Damaging locks, I found Locksport Very Expensive but i have had many years and made a lot of tools myself, I agree i get a lot of satisfaction Not just the Money side, Mostly the money side, But i have had an obsession with Locks & Keys since i was 6--7 yrs old I picked my grandads lock on his Motorbike many times he eventually Caught me I used to undo the lock and put the chain round the wheel a few times and lock it and waited till he was off to work, He'd look at it as if to say "I didn't do that did I ?? . I did it one time and didn't see him sneaking up behind me and he CLAPPED his hands together so hard i jumped nearly knocking his Motorbike over he laughed about it but wasn't best pleased He bought one of them Combination Chunky Chains for Motorbikes and I got that open in a couple of minute's Figured out how to change Combination and he gave up.

I was always fascinated with lockpicking, but picks were never really accesible in my country. Now they are through webshops, but I'm a cheap bastards, so I made my first usable pick from a part of my wives stethoscope. Don't know what sort of steel it is, but it is flexible, yet not easily bendable, and sturdy enough to pick. I can't begin to describe how happy I am with myself and my pick

As an electrician (retired) working in industrial jobs as well as commercial and residential, throughout the years I have made, modified, and invented many different tools to make my life easier. I have naturally adopted those skills to locksporting. And I have to pass on a.couple old cliches.... Nessecity is the mother of invention. You are only limited by your own imagination. But I have a request. Could you please make a video dedicated to finding sources for tools, part, and materials related to locksporting, such as a list of companies that sell picks, locksmith tools and other equipment like vices and key blanks, and raw materials. I myself have a fairly large group of "bookmarks" to sites where I can find what I want, but it took me years to accumulate this group, and when I started lock picking, I didn't have a clue where to find the stuff I needed.
