Recent subscriber (with notifications). I'm new, and trying out a mac for the first time in over a decade. Some suggestions, (maybe for a longer/patient version). Make sure you always mention the operating system number and name (and show it on screen for a while). The last thing anyone would want is to be confused about a tip that doesn't apply to them. I've been watching a few videos so I know many terms now, but I was still a bit blindsided. For beginners it's useful to spell things out. For example, saying full phrases "we're now looking at the stage manager" when showing it, and waving your mouse in a circle, and not just name dropping when it's shown. Also, there's a mention of a "dock", but it's hidden. Showing it by default will help new users, and it would be useful to show and talk about how it might be hidden until they move their mouse down there. Then you can point out that it's at the bottom, and indicate when you've hidden an app (point at it with your mouse and show and talk about it's little indicator) Also also, when talking about each item, if there is a separate video you've made (such as the stage manager video), you can mention a link number. Then the description can have a numbered list of those links. I love that you were showing the full keyboard, but a slower video would benefit from having it on screen for a while and talking about and indicating the keys near the beginning of the video, and talking about the symbols. Windows users like me aren't used to odd names like "option" (or "function") or the strange symbols: ⌥ and ⌘ that pop up on the screen.

Of course, Gary! You are a wizard when it comes to Macs. YOU are my “go to expert” when I have a question about my Mac. You have such a wonderful channel. I just hope that I will become as efficient with my Mac, as you are with yours. I can still hope, can’t I? Peace.

Well that's a whole workshop in a nutshell! Great tips Gary thanks! Question - I no longer can calculate and do conversions in Spotlight and I use those all the time for baking. Is there a preference I accidentally turned off? Using Monterey. Thank you. Also is there a diff between Ctrl and Cmd to right click? Menus use the same.
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
Go to System Preferences, Spotlight, and make sure Calculator is on. If it is already, try turning it off and on again. "Right Click" is Control+click, not Command+click. Maybe some apps allow Command+click, but most do not.

Is it still worth using "hide" with the new Stage Manager integration? It doesn't lose a bit of its functionality when using "hide" Excellent video, always attentive to new publications
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
Maybe. Minimize puts the app set back to the left, but hide drops it off the list. So some people may find it useful to control it like that.

If Command+` isn't working, check in System Preferences/Settings, Keyboard to make sure the keyboard shortcut hasn't been changed or deactivated.

Nice! But...... How would one trigger the right click from the mouse on the keyboard? I know you could find it in the Accessibility page something similar but that only trigger the right click where the mouse is but it's at the cursor where I want it. Example, like when you want to correct the misspelled word but without dragging the mouse over.
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
There's no way to do that. But the context menu is mostly menu commands you can also find in the Menu Bar, and most of them have keyboard shortcuts. In the case of spelling suggestions, try this: after you mistype the word and press space, use the left arrow to put the cursor at the end of the word. Suggestions should appear and you can use the down arrow to go to them, left and right to select, and Return to confirm.

@@macmost Right! I just wish there was a way to bring up the context menu where the cursor is to get all the functions right away. Been trying to get my self used to keeping both hands on the keyboard 😄 I did turn on the function where by clicking CTRL F2 you bring the focus to the menu bar to access everything, but in there, there's not the correcting misspelled words.

Hello Gary, this video you stated keyboard shortcut for emojis as ctrl cmd space for Ventura, yes it works. On your chest sheet you have it as fn/E which does NOT work. Yes, and the edit pull down window has it as fn/E as well. I have a Logi keyboard of which I was trying to contact why fn/E does nor work for emojis. I was annoyed. I used to follow you many years ago and also kept your emails coming. Good cause now I want to my Mac learning. Fell away for a long while. I plan to take some of your courses. But you should update your keyboard short cuts for Ventura to include ctrl/cmd/space for emojis. Apple should update too.

How to go to directly to Finder with shortcut

The Finder is just another app. Use the App Switcher (Command+tab).

Yeah, Adobe is funny about it. But I think you can set it to obey Command+H in the app preferences.
