i use to subscribe to the idea of a "full face of makeup" but i hate how most of the products look on my skin. so i stopped buying primer, foundation, powders, highlighter, and bronzer. i feel more confident wearing just concealer, brows, eye makeup, and blush even if my texture and pores are showing☺️

For me, it's liquid lipsticks. I just realized with time that I don't really like them so I am not drawn anymore to try them out. I have one from Persona and even that one looks a bit dry on my lips (and apparently that is the best formula ever). Glosses and regular bullet lipsticks are way more flattering on me.

I used to use those all the time in high school and in early years of uni until fine retractable brow wiz dupes came onto the market. At first I'd go through them quickly but now that I've learned how to fill in just the few gaps necessary and not overdo it I don't go through them that often at all. Your surname sounds polish so if you live in Poland or visit sometimes I recommend the wibo ones, super affordable. I know that those kinds of pencils completely changed the game for me with being able to draw on individual 'hairs' so I just want to suggest giving it another shot ;)

My list: -setting powders (only need 1) -face palettes with eyeshadows and face powders (pans are hard to use sometimes) -big eyeshadow palettes (can't store them) -liquid lipsticks (too much work to apply) -high end mascaras (drugstore has nice ones) -bulky packaged makeup (can't store them) -brow pencils (only use brow gel/soap) -makeup with odd shades, like navy blue lipsticks, bright pink blushes,... (only wear natural shades) -red lip products (only need 1)

I totally agree with your statements at the beginning. "I used to think I needed to have what other people had that looked interesting" I never really went through an overbuying and debt phase, but I absolutely did not save as much as I should have during college years ago because I lived right near Ulta! Since quarantine, I have worn make up maybe 5 times in the last 5 months and it's been a HUGE eye opener and allowed me to try new skincare. I think beauty YT is slowly getting much more minimal and only buying and keeping PR that really interests the person. EDIT: LOVE THIS EYE LOOK

Items I don’t buy Hyped up products, I used to buy a lot of products, I have learned to be way more selective. Do I have something similar? How many of that item do I have? Backup products, never again. 2 reasons sometimes my tastes change and secondly I have too much I won’t be able to use up the item

I love face palettes and it's not helping with my inventory. Since i count every pan in palette as an individual, it ends up making my count so much higher. I feel like people who count face palettes as 1 product, 1 face palette are ignoring the truth😅😅😅

Ive kinda moved away from makeup and spend my money on skincare more now that im in my 30s. Minimal makeup makes me feel the best. Concealer blended on the face, mascara, a few shadows on my eyes and lip gloss and im good. The feeling of a cake face of makeup gives me anxiety 🤣

It’s so interesting seeing different perspectives because I can totally see where you are coming from on primers, but I feel the complete opposite. I find that if I’m going to spend money on a primer it needs to do something different than a moisturizer. For my skin, I can get a glowy look from a nice moisturizer under my makeup so I do tend to buy more blurring, smoothing or gripping primers if I’m using a primer at all.

Great video! I know I’m different than many people in this but I love my singles. About 2 years ago, I was actively trying to pan eyeshadow palettes. I realized I had a lot of palettes where I only liked a handful of shades. So after panning my Chocolate Bar palette, I gave away some palettes and de-potted the rest. I kept the shades I love and gave away the remaining colors (I have a girlfriend that takes individual pans.). Now I have one magnetic palette (Adept - 63 pan faux leather XL palette). All of my eyeshadow is in this one palette. I’ve bought a couple of quads since then and de-potted them to add to this palette. It’s great for me in the morning to have all eyeshadow in front of me while I’m getting ready. I only buy singles if they will fit in this palette. If I pan an eyeshadow or give one away, then I can buy a new eyeshadow. But I won’t buy anything that won’t fit in this palette. I also starting making frankenshadows when I’ve used up a lot of the shadow (thanks Elle S) so I can actually pan eyeshadow. I know I have more eyeshadow in this one palette than the average person, but I also have a lot less than many makeup enthusiasts that watch YT.

I've been waiting for you to do this video since I saw the other three!! I keep a list of makeup shades and finishes that don't work for me (golden highlighters, liquid and metallic lipsticks, etc) and I think it's really valuable to figure out what does and doesn't work for yourself. I hope more people cover this topic 😊

Large eyeshadow palettes overwhelm me a lot. Though, I’m super inspired while using Huda’s 18 shadows Mercury Retrograde. My go-to palette is 5 shadows drugstore palette, and oh boy the formula is amazing. I use the shadow in a palette when I do single shadow look :) For brows, I’ve heard pomade isn’t for someone who has sparse eyebrows so I use powder. It lasts for a very long time. I live in a hot and humid country, so on a day I know I’m not going to be in an air-conditioned building, I’m not going to wear much makeup. And I don’t own a foundation because it’s hot all year and I don’t like how it looks on my skin anyway. One of the two blushes I own is exactly the same as my flushed face. It’s almost too pigmented BUT I don’t plan on having a commitment with a new blush before I use these two up hahaha I used to buy products that people recommend and regretted it. Just knowing that when you put anything in your collection on your face and it’s going to suit you beautifully is super nice! (I got chatty today sorry lol)

I totally agree with you on both face palettes and large eyeshadow palettes. I used to buy face palettes because I thought they would be more practical and I should have them as a makeup fan, but truth be told I have decluttered almost every single one. The only face palettes I still own is an ABH Glow Kit and a tiny blush trio. As for eyeshadow palettes, I think a lot of people are starting to get fatigued by the larger ones and quads and smaller palettes are getting more popular. I kind of feel more comfortable with quads, because I takes a lot of the decision making out the whole process. And since I usually do my makeup at like 6 am, I really don't feel like making decisions before I've even had a coffee LOL

I feel the same about limited edition products, I think companies should launch fewer products and spend more efforts to improve. I am not a fan of brands like Estee lauder or Dior since they are not cruelty free but I feel that their products are more thought out and elaborated if that makes any sense, I mean double wear is the older foundation i know and people continue using it. Great video as usual, love your channel 😘

Yeah another thing I don't like about face palettes is that brands usually only release one version, making it "universal" -- but that's kinda like a "I don't see color" type of cop-out. If they make it "universal", then that means that only 1 shade (*maybe* 2) actually works for you as a cheek product -- or they call it "universal" and it only works on a light-medium skin tone.
@SarahRoseBeauty
@SarahRoseBeauty 4 жыл бұрын
Oh good point! And whenever they do include shades for multiple skin tones in one palette, I feel like that’s only useful for a makeup artist.

A few things I no longer buy: - bronzer. I don't tan. Ever. I have fair neutral/cool skin and bronzers look fake on me. I'd rather enhance my fair skin than fight it. - too dark/golden highlighters. I bought Champagne Pop because of the hype and just decluttered it because it's too dark... by like 3-4 shades and golden tones don't look natural on me. I need white/pinky/champagne tones. - liquid lipstick. I like comfort. I just do. I don't mind reapplying products either. Gloss and creamy lipsticks are my preference. - rainbow palettes. I thought I needed every color under the sun. But I don't. Specific shades and tones of certain colors like green and purple, but not neon pink or lime green. I'll never wear that. - a million black eyeliners. I need one. Just one. I wear brown or green eyeliner more often. It makes more sense for me to have multiple shades of brown. - contour products. I have one. Never use it. It just looks odd on my face. I thought I needed to contour my nose because it's buttony, but I like it as it is. Contouring it just makes it look dirty not smaller.

I loooved this vid. I feel like everything you said at the beginning about figuring out how you personally wear makeup resonated so hard. I also agreed with so much of your list. Here's mine: - any primers - once I realized I mostly wanted moisture from a primer... I just got a stronger moisturizer. lol. Solved my issue. - highlight - I don't wear it - warm eyeshadow - nothing makes me look worse/sick faster, haha - most lip products - I gotta own that I'm just a nude gloss girl And my big deviation from your list is that I LOVE single magnetic shadows. haha. About 6/13 of my palettes are palettes I've made myself with eyeshadow singles (small, curated color stories), because I realized brands just WEREN'T making the palettes I wanted. I'm so satisfied with what I've created. Thanks so much for jumping on this tag!

Wow... your channel just popped on my feed and connected with you so much. I had similar realizations last year but with different products. I no longer buy eye shadow palettes - for the life of me I never reached for them. I’m the kind that puts blush/bronzer/highlighter on my eyes lids and in done. Nothing fancy, just natural eye looks - that’s me being true to myself. I only kept 3 eye palettes in case I ever need to make a glam look but my everyday eyes have bronzer, blush or highlight. With that being said I do love bronzer palletes for that reason but I only have two at the moments I don’t need them all either. The darkest reddish bronzer I love to wear on my crease to add definition and the other shades I contour/bronze if I want too. I only have 2 blush palletes as well and like 10 single blushes. I’m obsessed! Highlighters i love individual ones also because all the highlighter colors in a pallete don’t flatter me, they’re just pretty to look at and swatch so it’s a waste for me. Loved this video.

Great topic and I really appreciate your thoughts! Over the years I have narrowed my products it feels really good to love what you have and use it up. A few key eyeshadows and pencil liners in purple and brown shades, a light shimmer for the lid, and a black mascara are all I need. One tinted balm with spf for day and a red lip stain for some drama when I am in the mood, and I am good to go. Love watching people who have and use more but I have found what flatters me and makes me feel put together. 🌺💗

I have quite a few categories of makeup I don't buy. Primers ~ I don't see difference, setting sprays ~ again not much difference, lip liners ~ meh not my style, liquid lipstick ~ I have extreme problems with lips and it's impossible to wear, brow products ~ every palette has a dark brown eyeshadow that I can use as brow powder, cream cheek products ~ I can't wear them on my oily skin no matter how popular they are lately and how good they look on others. I really want to stick to these things because it really doesn't make sence to me to buy these things and try to "fit in". At the end of it my makeup still looks similar to the tutorials and most importantly I myself love the way it looks and wears ♥️

I agree with a lot of what you said.. I'm over buying colour cosmetics that are too dark for me and trying to make them work because they look pretty, especially blushes.. the only thing is I actually do like pore filling primers but only for special occasions.. but I only have minis of those.. most days my sunscreen acts as a primer.. with brow pencils, I go through them pretty slowly because my brows are already dark,so I just fill in a few areas to make them look a little thicker..

For me, it's sheer lip products, like tinted lip balms or lip stains. I have fair skin, but pretty pigmented lips, so sheer lip products just don't show up on me! Like Glossier Gen G or Colourpop's multiple sheer lip products, they look so gorgeous and I love the idea of them, but I have had to accept that those colors will not show up how I want them

I feel the same w “pore filling” primers. I have tried the benefit porefessional, which my wife loves, but I don’t see the difference under makeup. I prefer hydrating primers or glowy ones. I prefer pomades for the same reason too. I’ve probably been working on my Anastasia pomade for a year and a half now. I have like 1/4 of the product left and I wear makeup everyday.

Def agree.. RIP to my moisture barrier in 2015-2016 college when I thought I had to use a setting spray like UD all nighter just for every day?? I have dry eczema prone skin, it took me about a year to be like “wait a sec... I think those larger palettes are great to find the shades that work for you. I have been LOVING figuring out face products that work for me + I am slowly learning but I need some variety to find what I love vs what isn't flattering. Once I hone in on that, I will probably spend some time finding a ride or die replacement. I definitely do this with clothes, too. If I want to figure out if I enjoy wearing a certain silhouette/pattern, I'll get something cheaper and trial run it basically. It's still a super intentional purchase- just not an investment. PS: I am still so in love with that Chai lipstick ^.^

Amazing video!! 👌 When everyone started wearing blinding highlight, I was like I need to have one, but I never wear that, it emphasizes my texture and it's just not my thing!🤷‍♀️

if you love bronzer that's awesome. I just use brown eyeshadow that comes in every single palette. Same with my brows

When I was in high school I did winter guard and show choir and I used the poop out of pour filling primer and mattifying foundations because I wanted to look smooth, but they made me break out like crazy! I ended up stop wearing foundation after high school and my skin has been so much better

The abh pomade I’ve had since 2018. It still has over half of it & it is the only brow product I’ve used in 2 years. It’s definitely worth the money!

Beautiful eye look and an interesting topic to discuss 😍I feel the same way about the primers, too. I haven't restocked it since March and intend to keep that way 😁 I also feel I shouldn't buy any more single eyeshadows, lipsticks too which are more than enough already, and learned that I don't use them all anyway 😄😂

I've stopped buying warm color everything, even some neutral shades pull too warm on me. I've figured out in the last yr that I'm pretty much a cool tone person, and cool tones look lots better on me!!!! I've also stopped buying pallets and went to singles. I don't like full or med foundations, I quit like sheer coverage. I like lipgloss and sheer lipsticks. And I also have decided that I like light and med eyeshadow/lipstick anything to dark or bright looks garish on my fair skin.

It took me two years to go through an ABH dipbrow. I’ve tried drug store ones and they dry out too quickly. I’m back to the dipbrow now and won’t try any other pomade.

Just wanted to point out that, for example, the Nyx version (if you buy from them, I forgot) of dipbrow isn't the same, so wouldn't recommend that one as a true "dupe," it can get out of hand really quick and it kinda varies in how it'll apply so it's trickier to use vs. my dipbrow to me isn't that pigmented right off the bat (mine is super old though but I've found that the top layer of dipbrow is the most pigmented). Like I bought the nyx then ended up trying dipbrow soon after anyway. So idk if there's true dupes out there for it or not

I’m the same with single shadows, palettes etc. I much prefer smaller palettes. I’m down to two palettes now (the Biba palette and the TF sweet peach) but actually I wish I just had two or three single shadows. I’m seriously considering giving away my palettes and then just buying a few single shadows in pots. The palettes are starting to really get to me for some reason.

Would you consider the ABH dip brow to be waterproof? I too feel like I'm being wasteful going through an eyebrow pencil every couple months, so I'm interested in a pomade, but I really need one that won't run when it gets wet. Thank you!! 💚💜💙

I’m a blush and highlighter junkie, but I do steer clear shades that are too deep for my skin tone, shades that are too light, and shades that are too bright. I learned that lesson. I own a super bright Mac cream blush in magenta and a bright powder blush in fuchsia. I can make them work when I mix them with a more neutral color and it’s so pretty but I have to put in that extra effort and I already have a ton of blushes that just work, no extra step required.
