cheap tools are expensive. I have learned that big time. I buy Wera, Knippex, wiha etc now. Buy it once for life.

Really like WIHA for their precision drivers, PB Swiss(Esp. slotted) and VESSEL(Esp. "phillips"/JiS) for regular sized stuff. Cheap harbor fright stuff for prying/wailing on etc.

Yes,yes,yes. All the aggro disappears with good kit. I've always had good drivers and pliers but for some reason was using a cheap set of hex keys for years, happily rounding off heads. A set of Wera keys and guess what- they fit, and remove the most stubborn of screws. I like your sentiment of giving your old tools away too, let's make the world better!

"If you buy cheap you will buy twice. With screwdrivers you will buy 6 or 7 times!!..." I laughed out loud cos this is so TRUE and I am still on the holy grail of screwdrivers! Wera I like and collect! With electronics, that day is not far off when you simply cannot find that exact screwdriver for the job and end up having a nervous breakdown on Amazon! The micros is where I am perfecting my collection now and it is INSANE! Good one mate!

Hello from Canada! I've actually never heard of the Wera (German) brand, go figure! They do look very well made and as always, German manufacturing is usually top grade. I've got most of the Wiha (another German manufacturer) brand of precision screwdrivers and I'm very happy with them as well. I've spent thousands on the electronics hobby and I believe the sweet spot is a culmination of very high end and low end instruments and tools. I have an Agilent U1252B meter that works alongside my 10 dollar DT9205 from China..and they work well together! I use the DT9205 strictly for continuity testing as its very quick and precise on the circuit, while I use the Agilent for critical measuring. Long story short, if you can..don't be afraid of buying cheap but well made (If that's possible) and they will work great alongside the expensive kit.

Totally agree on Wira Kraftform, I just use PH00 and PH01 so I buy individually and don't shell out for the larger ones I don't use often. Got to add tho I just broke my C.K. 0.4 flat blade thats given me many years of fantastic service on stubborn screws so I'm conflicted as to whether to stick with replacing like for like. The metal shaft is a little thicker than my similar sized wira with a sharper angle to the tip and it has really made a difference sometimes.

Your so right these last so much longer than anything else, and cheaper in the long run, Wera & Wiha have brought there prices down on there more common sets like these that anyone can afford now days, and they are always on sale for alot of these.

A shame what happened to the UK. As for German tools, check out Gedore in that same price bracket. Wera sources from Czech and Taiwan.

Nice quality though even from Czech Republic. I just bought some Wera sockets and wrenches that I’ve always wanted. Very, very nice.

Not a fan of Big Clive's Poundland screwdrivers I take it? :-p I love those little cheapo 9-in-one style screwdrivers. You absolutely make a very good point, though - good quality tools really makes a difference and are worth investing in. With that said; as a hobbyist on a budget, buying cheap may be all you need. If, like me, you mostly tinker with smaller electronics, one of Big Clive's favourite screwdrivers will last you for years. If you're just starting out - by all means buy cheap tools and upgrade later when you have a better idea of your needs. Of course, if you do have the money to spare, buy good quality from the beginning. End of personal opinions. Great review, Kris, I'm actually sort of looking to buy a nicer, more durable set of screwdrivers for heavier work (i.e. opening things). You wouldn't happen to know if they have a set like the Kompakt, but with security bits or could you recommend some other set? Thanks for a great video, as always!

This is late but their ESD screw drivers would be best suited they are the black and yellow handled ones

Gave a thumbs up but there is no way I could afford or justify either set......no matter how much I really want them. I have a few Dealz (Poundland brand in Ireland) sets and they have lasted me for a couple of years. I'm still putting away money to try to buy the VC97........by the time I'm able there'll be a better one :D
@Corialtavi6 жыл бұрын
Do what I did and just buy one at a time from aliexpress or bangood. If doing small stuff I just got myself a single wira 0.4 x 2.5 flat head about £3.50 inc post (so 4ish euro's) and then a PH00 posi (for those tiny phone, tablet screws) & a PH01 for the larger but still small stuff. I was worried I may get copies but they have held up 10 times better than the cheapo sets I used before so seem legit. You don't use or need a lot of the ones in sets so it seems pointless buying.

Somebody please help me.... This is not what I need at all ! ...I need QUAILITY MINI screwdrivers... These are WAY too large... I need screwdrivers to disassemble and assemble vintage film cameras ... Old cameras with the screws holding them together that haven't been turned in many, many years ...Most of them have screws that haven't been turned since they were made ... I broke 4 screwdrivers yesterday trying to remove ONE screw from a vintage Yashica film camera.. .. and would have probably broken more drivers if I had anymore that fit that screw. ...Well...The screw is still in the camera..... I'm tired of throwing away money on worthless mini screwdrivers.... I cant afford to spend a couple hundred bucks for a few micro precision screwdrivers....Surely , somebody somewhere makes a decent micro screwdriver set to work on cameras that I don't have to mortgage the farm to buy... If you know who or where please advise me ...thanks in advance.... The Idle film camera fixer
