Om Extravokaler: Håll min öl! Vi har också "ü" och "ß" i vårt alfabet. "ü" låter som "u" i "du" och "ß" är vad vi brukar använda när vi har ett skarpt "s", speciellt om vi har en långt vokal förre.

A great way to remember “hit” and “dit” (for me, at least) is the English words “hither” and “thither.” So when I jokingly say “come hither” (come to where I am), it translates directly into Swedish as “kom hit.” Some English speakers may not be as familiar with these words because they are a bit dated, but still a great way to remember.

I notice that i (as a native swedish speaker) speak my sentences backwards from how you tell them in this video. I would probably not say "Förra helgen var jag i Paris" I say it like: "Jag var i Paris förra helgen" and I also say "Jag skall köpa en kanelbulle idag" and not "Idag skall jag köpa en kanelbulle". Just wanted to say this to people who maybe get confused as some of us speaks a bit different appart from pronunciation and other stuff. (There is no difference between "skall" och "ska" in writing "skall" is just an older way of spelling. But it can also be a dogs bark. Just a bit confused by my own L1 here. :D)
@FunSwedish2 жыл бұрын
Hej Anton, vi säger också "Jag var i i Paris förra helgen" oftare men vi lyfte upp denna ordning för den existerar också. Speciellt i frågor. Vad gjorde du förra helgen? Förra helgen var jag i Paris. Och när man säger denna version så brukar det oftare uppstå fel för många som lär sig svenska då man tänker som på engelska och säger/skriver "förra helgen jag var i i Paris". Därför lyfte vi upp det 🙂

Regarding the last one, the spelling mistake, I wouldn't really say that we never capitalise months or days. If you want to read Swedish literature from the 1800s, you'd better get used to it, because back then it was still rather common. We should notice that days and months ARE names and the main rule is to capitalize names, so this rule in practice today is an exception. It follows the trend, started in the 1600s, when Swedish stopped capitalizing nouns, partly to distance the language from the previously strong German influence. I wouldn't really consider it an error, since it doesn't occur in spoken language and doesn't introduce any ambiguity. It's more of a nuisance because it differs to most other languages, without any real benefits. There are lots of rules in written Swedish that are kind of arbitrary and not really useful, this is one of those. Another one, which is a pet peeve of mine, is that trippel consonants is reduced to double consonants, which introduces a few ambiguities by "avstavningshomografer". This purely aesthetic and annoying rule was actually changed this year to allow them.
