When you have a cluster of raw resources for the same type like iron, use short trains to feed a pickup station and long trains to take the combined cargo across the map. Though that gets featured a lot in the series and came up in the tutorials, it's worth mentioning again for the money it saves you and the improved station rating at the resource-producing end.

I just got OpenTTD from Steam and have been hooked on trying to learn how to play and watching your videos. Man, you're a lifesaver! By using your tutorials, I've been able to start up a decent sized bussing/trucking industry on a map (with two airports connecting two of my larger cities + a single train hauling grain and livestock from a farm to a factory that was already close to my main network). I still need to figure out signaling because I'm determined to try and upgrade my railway to a double main line. Keep up the great work! I'm definitely giving a sub to keep up with tips + tricks. I'm hoping to watch one of your let's plays soon. One thing I'm amazed at is that even though this is a 10-15 year old game, the community is large and still very much active and willing to help new players (especially on Steam). Another game I like to play, Galactic Civilization 2, barely has anybody in the forums to talk to and ask advice about, so you can understand why I'm so excited to see a thriving community with this game! Thanks again!

Glad you are enjoying the game and my tutorials helped. The community around the game is one of the best I have seen

A few things I find useful: 1) Pin the landscaping tool and transparency tool and put them in the corner of the screen. They're small, and I need them all the time. 2) The green bars below the transparency buttons make the things go entirely invisible. 3) Consider order of magnitude when spending. Master Hellish said some things can be quite expensive, but that's only relative to your current financial situation. 4) Replacing vehicles takes a lot of time and manual operations. Whenever I can, I replace all vehicles at the same time and use as few different vehicles at once so they all age at the same rate. Some vehicles will be replaced a little early, but that's not really a down side. 5) Reduce the interval of maintenance of vehicle types that may cause a lot of trouble. 6) Apply (5) BEFORE cloning vehicles, as this property gets copied. 7) Build road vehicle stations in ro-ro style with one-way entrances and exist so they don't clog. 8) Make at least one road vehicle for (7) that takes a full load at every station to increase the ratings. Due to (7), other vehicles can easily pass the vehicle suggested in (8). 9) When upgrading your railway network to monorail or maglev do it as follows: 9.a) Send all your trains to the depots. 9.b) Create depots of the new railway types along the old network and add in the appropriate comparable trains (cargo wise) and *only one per type/route*, since you can clone them. 9.c) For each train/route, use the "Goto" and click on an old train/route it needs to clone, so the old orders are copied over. 9.d) Replace all the railway with monorail/maglev 9.e) Sell your old trains and remove the depots. 10) Your manual management labor or building things, managing your vehicles and other such operations cost you a lot of in-game time and money. Consider which tasks may become too costly after a while to continue doing. Examples: 3) I was earning millions a year and had to upgrade an airport in the center of a giant city. I had to remove like, 10 houses from the center and every building put my rating with the local authority at poor. A bribe cost me 1 million, so I bribed 10 times just to remove those 10 houses so I could put in my new airport. There's the risk of course, so be careful. Point being: even if something costs 10 million, if it's less than 10% of your yearly income, it's not a big deal in the long run. 10) Setting complex time tables for 4 bus vehicles when you're earning millions a year might not be worth the effort anymore.

Removing trees to see the tracks while building has ruined my reputation with some local authorities, transparency options are gonna be useful for me to avoid that!

I'd like to add another useful tip, that IMO isn't as used and that is to name all your vehicles (e.g. giving them unique codes). I know it's a trivial thing, but IMO it'd improve tracking down your vehicles. I'd use planes for example, because I think it's much easier to show what I mean than say road vehicles or trains. Imagine that the firm XYZ Transport & Logistics has 12 planes. Rather than having each plane named as Plane No.n we can use an unique code (registration number) for every plane instead.

I mean each train has a unique number so I am not sure what the advantage here is

So far I'm naming it: What its transporting - source-destination - vehicle number For example: pax lon-shef 1

I've been doing this with bus and lorry stations (which I tend to place in a grid across the city) and it makes a huge difference for my brain at least, so the town of 'Oakvale' has OA1 OA2 OA3 ect running East West, and OA1 OB1 OB3 running North South, basically grid references, a bus running East West would be called "OA B1" the 3rd mail truck on the same route would be "OA M3" helps my brain keep things in order, tho its possibly more of an autism thing than a gameplay tip 🤷🏻♂️😅

I got back to the game recently after few years break I rewatched some of the tutorials for example the one about growing cities and station ratings and... well I started a game went for an easy option for the first time built 3 train coal lines all connected to one power plant, because it's just satisfying to watch those trains going around the tracks avoiding each other if you did ok job with the signals and then I started to wait for my coal mines to increase production. Now as I said I did watch the tutorials so I kept the transported statistic at mines and ratings at stations over 70% sometimes they reached over 80%... and the coal production didnt grow I waited for almost 50 years (it's 1999 in my game now and my coal mines are still producing around 200 units of coal) I even made a screenshot yesterday with the notification that production at one of my coal mines goes down by 21% and I also opened that coal mine window to prove that I transported over 70%. So the question is - did something change since the tutorial videos were released? Could I send you my game mr Hellish so you could maybe point out what am I doing wrong? EDIT: Ok I got it figured out... you actually have to deliver mail and goods to make the cities grow faster or grow at all.

After 32 tutorials watched and all were helpfull, I found a little tip myself: Let Trains stop at the beginning on long terminal stations, sometimes saves some travel days.
@MasterHellish-Gaming3 жыл бұрын
This is true if your stations are longer than your trains. Good tip. Thanks

Aww, you didn't include to filter by cargo on the buy vehicle screen. It allows you to purchase and refit at the same time. Saves a lot of returning vehicles to the depot for refit when they won't pick up cargo.

Hi I have the nuts unrealistic set, but the signals look really dumb with them? Any idea how to change them while still having the trains?

It's not something I have looked at before. You could try the OpenTTD wiki (wiki.openttd.org/en), forum (www.tt-forums.net) or Discord (discordapp.com/invite/0nQXSRX64lIL1zk4).

Hi MasterHellish! Love the tips they really help! One question I have is where did you get that UK map? Or did you make it yourself? Me and some friends would love to try it on multiplayer 😁

The UK map is a modified version of one I downloaded from the online content. Check the start of my season 6n where I explain the map.
