Instead of oil, I would use grease made for plastic. I bought some to maintain a vintage Singer sewing machine. Oil is for metal, grease for plastic gears. Some have mentioned you can find white grease made just for plastic at home improvement stores.

Love your tips. I'm a long-time crocheter. I start in August making beanies and toboggans for the homeless in our area. I've only begun using the knitting machine this year. Still getting the hang of it. I do have lots of static electricity as my house is carpeted. I tape a piece of dryer sheet to the front my machine for the yarn to slide across. Works like a charm.

Yes! Love that tip. I am also a crocheter and sewist and the knitting machine is such a fun way to use your yarn skills to make new projects. The smaller ones are also portable which is great when traveling.

You could get a counter and attach with velcro so you can move to different machines.

My husband placed my machine on wood with screws. He cut a hole where the project can fall through. We secure the wood on a foldable table which we bought at Harbor Freight. The table is adjustable. We put a 5gal bucket where the legs are and we put our large ball of yarn in that. Keeps the yarn clean and east to keep the yarn from running away

The 22 pin Addi is definitely a better made machine and also comes with a built in counter. If you plan on knitting a lot, I would recommend the 22 pin Addi vs the 22 pin Sentro. If you only plan to do occasional, once in a while hobby knitting and/or letting a child play with it, get the 22 pin Sentro. You can always save up for the Addi if you decide to become more productive with a circular knitter.

@@thecraftygrrl :) things are going OK right now, Sept. both folks got covid again & my Mom was in 21-day isolation, and 30-day hospitalization, then had nursing home rehab for 2 wks, Dad was hospitalized for 9 days but both came home & doing well again :) My mom's lost 63 lbs, in the past year so that's been a lifelong dream & she always joked that she'd end up losing weight by getting sick one day, lol, she's made of steel & has a whole new wardrobe full of cozy velour loungewear like me, lol! I didn't get the C-vid because I'm still wearing 3 masks, & never taking it off in front of anyone, lol, & in self-isolation 90% of the time unless I'm at my folks' caregiving on the weekends, but I, like you, have lots of multi-passions so I can enjoy being with myself at home, actually prefer it now, lol.

Sometimes I use a paper bag if my basket gets overwhelmed by yarn too. Just anything to keep it off the floor and rolling smoothly for sure.

I am just starting out. I ordered my 48 needle machine today. Merry Christmas to me! So i have saved this video and the other one to my favorites for future reference. I used to knit when i was a kid, but my stuff wasn't very good. I crochet big blankets. I only know 2 stitches. Patterns never made any sense to me. My mom and grandma could knit or crochet just about anything. I think part of my problem was i am left handed. I think i will enjoy doing this making colorful hats and scarves to start.

I have that same yarn winder. That one does smaller cakes, so I got myself another one that makes cakes 2-3 times larger and I don't have to cut the yarn up as much. I still use them both, though. Also, that winder has sharp tops on the ridges. I never had a problem with it until recently, when it started snagging the yard when I pull it off. So I sanded the tops down with a pumice stone. Great tips. Nice dress in the background.

Would you drop maintenance oil into every tiny basin? Or just 2 or 3, and spin the tray around to distribute the oil?

I got a small handheld one for under 3 dollars (converted currency). I found it much more trustable and easier to hold in the hand while I habitually hold the machine

I attached a replacement counter onto my sentro with blu tack. Stays put and can easily be removed.

OH no! That could mean the yarn is too thick for your machine or possibly a defective machine? Yarn is almost always the culprit.

Can a latch hook be used instead of crochet hook? Love your tutorials.

It depends on what you want to do with it. The latch part will get stuck on the delicate yarn loops and could create a mess.

ok. i hear a lot about making sure the tension is right. how do you know if it’s right? when to make it tighter or looser and why. which direction to go.

When I talk about tension it's more about consistency...you don't want any pulling or changes in tension because that will create those puckers or pulls.

I would open it up to put like a new gear where the handle is or a new handle now they come with the gear but other than that I wouldn’t open it up either but I have open mind just to put a small gear but then I realize they come with a handle with the gear

Please don't use machine oil, it will over time degrade the plastic, it's best to use dielectric silicone grease. It's also so OK to take the machine apart, nothing will break that easily, I find hair and yarn fibres get stuck around the cogs of the crank handle and around the base of needles, and in-between the inner and outer cylinders, machine oil also gets very sticky. Which attracts fibres and dust.

They have a new electric one that you adapt to your handle and it goes by itself I bought one but hesitant to put it on and it cost me 40 bucks

You can take that white top piece off and the other little top but I wouldn’t takeoff where there are pins unless you’re good at putting it back together

People need to realize that machine has a big gear that goes around the whole machine and the little gear that’s where you’re cranking it goes under that big year and it actually takes the teeth off the big gear around the whole machine that’s inside it’s a gray part and you cannot replace that I wish I could send you a link or a video of what I’m talking about because I just realize mine is chewed up

I noticed you bought a 22 add a do not use that adapter for the drill for that they have an actual adapter that’s smaller for the Addi

Electric screwdrivers are fun but they run out of battery quick so you have to stop your project because you don’t want to have half of it tighter and then half of that hand wound

I actually found my tension to be exactly the same with using both hand and the screwdriver but I also am that weird person who uses their hand to control the tension but could definitely see where that would be an issue.

If you blow in the air all you’re doing is blowing up pieces of plastic that’s already broken off the machine because it is a toy it is considered a toy not a working machine but I noticed when mine broke and I had to open it there was a Lotta gear piece is broken

And sewing machine oil can sometimes degrade plastic , it’s fine for metal machinery and certain plastics but the sentro as you know is crappy cheap plastic

The Sentro machines in particular are very picky with the type of yarn you can use. Unfortunately, T-shirt and chunky yarn do not work in these.
