Hence owning a Speedy, 300 Pro Diver NTD, Portuguese, Luminor GMT, Tag Monza and Targa F Fangio limited edition, Baume & M Hampton, Cartier Pasha, Squale 1521. I never paid retail for any of these pieces, negotiating hard with ADs when buying new or buying quality second hand (always meeting the owner in person beforehand). The research and “hunt” aspect of the entire process makes the day of the purchase feel even more special. Thank you for guiding watch lovers like me make better decision. I have my sights on a Polaris chrono. Will wait a couple of month to buy secondhand: as much as I like the brand story, the Polaris design and the movement, JLC price positioning is indeed nonsense.

I disagree with your assessment of Cartier regarding them being a fashion brand. They are more of a jewelry company, and I believe that they are legitimate watch company. They have created some of the most iconic pieces of jewelry and watches. It's worth noting that Louis Cartier was a watch maker.
@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch3 ай бұрын
Fair enough. For me the starting point for jewellery and fashion is the same. Aesthetics first. Quality second. The technical aspect to watchmaking is something neither inherently have a skill at. @Mike.thiswatchthatwatch I see your point in a way. For me, when I think of fashion, I think of things that are here today, gone tomorrow. Thanks Mike. This is high quality content which few can emulate...Really enjoyed it....cut right through the marketing BS, ensuring customers are buying for value rather than hype.. You have done more for the watch buyer / collector community in one year than most other "experts" have done in ten...Think you may have raised the bar very high for your peers.... par excellence...best in class analysis....

Entertaining food for thought, as always. JKC cam make some beautiful & interesting watches. I hope they take care of their business. I have a G-Shock with compass, altimeter, etc. that I use for hiking kayaking, skiing and yard work. Otherwise a couple of boxes of sport & dress watches with a few colorful fun pieces mixed in.

Hello. I just wanted you to know that since the last episode Sinn has remade their website and, imo, they went a little bit too crazy. Worth checking out for sure.

Nico wants to appeal to the everyman, which is why he calls Casio "God Tier" and he enjoys shaming the CEO of Rolex. But at the end of the day, he buys and sells elite watches and has an expensive lifestyle. There is a necessary cult of personality thing going on there. It's the politics of dancing. I'm not judging... Meanwhile, Casio has no business being called "God Tier" in watch enthusiast conversations, because they are an electronics company first and foremost. Go ahead and look: Has Casio ever made a mechanical watch? That's not what they do. And as far as I'm concerned, an electronics company is unremarkable and exchangeable for any other electronics company, at least when it comes to race-to-the-bottom competition. So watch enthusiasts praise the F91W but secretly despise what is lacking.

IFL watches clearly have a thing with Nico going - not a secret or anything but that's a close relationship it seems 😀😀

Mr @This Watch, That Watch, when you say "would I pay retail? yes/no", do you mean you'd buy used to pay less than retail price, or expect a discount when buying brand new?

Really thought I wanted a JLC as my first luxury watch. Poor man’s Patek. The more I looked the less jazzed I felt. Then I found GS which had better case finishing and quality movements. Plus they seemed more ‘modern’. JLC felt like old money.

Uhh, I think your missing some other Casio's that aren't just the usual G-Shocks, calculators, databank, or squares. I mean, Bill Gates is well known for wearing his Casio "Duro" Dive watch for example...It's a basic, no frills analog quartz based movement that is housed in a fairly well built, not to mention durable watch that is a real deal dive watch. Okay, perhaps it is not quite "G-Shock "durable, but you also don't get that G-Shock appearance either. It appearance also is not another Rolex Submariner knock off (though you can tell it's design is based on function and is akin to a Submariner). It's very affordable watch for the masses, and as it is a mass market affordable watch, it's likely never going to be worth anything to a collector. So saying that, if somehow they don't have a G-Shock, calculator, databank, or square for you, it's still highly likely they have something else altogether, and it may actually have a little more clout behind it then one realizes behind what ever Casio they pick up, and it will very likely be well built. I know you said too many module lines, but I think they truly do have too many product lines altogether, never mind the modules.

I look forward to your videos so much! They are so informative, and your takes have thoughtful arguments to back them up.

The "almost" in almost everyone is the operative word. Nomos just doesn't appeal to me. I don't think they are bad, but I feel like less is less at that price point. I guess you like Bauhaus or you don't. Not a fan or Sternglas or Junghans Max Bill either. ( I do in other forms of design but not with watches). That said, Love this channel.

Yap . I think watches with nice movment to admire on the case are great, some Rolex have now. So JLC reverso at 30 K is too expensive ? Thats the point / Rolex

Agreed, for the most part, Cartier is for women. And if I’m dropping big bucks for a nice watch, it’s Patek or a JLC Master complication.

Great takes, especially on Casio. I think some people don't actually appreciate Casio as much as they say. Many collectors and youtubers) are mainly into luxury/status/investment watches but are not honest about it. The inclusion of Casios in their collection/content, is basically an affordable "token" piece that they occasionally refer to.

Excellent video as always. Not many channels put thought into why you buy as opposed to just talking about specs and price.

You did AP and PP, but needed to close the Holy Trinity and talk about VC. As a teenager, a very nice jeweler let me try on an Overseas and it has been my grail watch ever since. It has the most beautiful bracelet in watch making history.

Cartier is the only good fashion brand? What about Hermes, Bulvgari and Faberge? They are way better horology than Cartier! Prove me wrong

Many good points here, esp. wrt Omega. I’d love to own one but am drawn to their older, more classic designs. Shark teeth indices, open hands, etc, are just not to my taste. It’s a pity because their movements are class leading at their price points. All the best.

People complain that omega speedmaster makes an association with the moon, but rolex literally named their chrono after a race. Also their diver is named submariner. Watches are tools for a specific purpose. Get over the association.

Absolutely love your channel! Never knew the intricacy of watch making or the branding aspects and so much more that I get to learn about. Always liked looking at beautiful timepieces and your videos just make me respect and enjoy it so much more. Some ideas for your next top 10 brands videos - the “ultra” luxurious ones such as MB&F, Jacob & Co, Bovet, Richard Mille and so on. Would love your take on some other less discussed brands such as Rado (premium or entry level luxury but never spoken about it seems), Kenneth Cole ( I know it’s a fashion watch but their skeleton watches are quite amazing in my opinion, they’re also cheap with automatic movements), Fossil (growing up this was really popular). Thanks again for the amazing content!
