In 2019, it was Zimmer's bad coaching that never changed up the game plan for the 49ers (which he did for the Saints' game) plus the defense struggled to stop the run and in 2022, the last ranked defense that had allowed 400+ yards in nine games, allowed 31 points and 431 yards to a Giants team that was far from explosive and made Daniel Jones look like a Pro Bowler. This year, he's playing at an MVP level and finally has a decent defense (which he hasn't had for most of his career) and gets hurt.
