Good stuff. I would advise you to add an emergency poncho to your kit. It can serve as a tarp if necessary. More importantly, the rain jackets you get at thrift stores (or generally used ones) do have a "DWR" durable water repellent. There is a good chance this is not working well anymore and the jacket will wet out. A 2 oz, $3 emergency poncho takes care of that (and can be donated to a friend if necessary).

I buy them on sale all the time for $1 and they are worth every penny. I give them away a lot to keep my stock fresh. 2 yrs ago a female friend put her car in the ditch, I got there same time as the tow guy. He forgot his raincoat. Gave him a poncho and held the flashlight for him. Only charged $50 which is a miracle in this area. Saw an off duty cop that had stopped at an accident and was directing traffic in the rain. Gave him a poncho (mostly to make him more visible). Every time he sees me he introduces me to whoever he is with and is still super appreciative. Over the years I've given dozens to motorcycle riders and they are always thrilled. If they don't use it right away, I tell them how it fits perfectly beside their tool kit, and they put it right in there. I've used them in multiple situations other than rain, like grabbing a disgusting animal and diverting spray from a busted pipe.

@@z31beck That's great to hear! They have so many use cases and while not the most durable item, last a surprising amount of time. I hike the southern part of the Pacific Crest Trail with one (because it hardly ever rains and it was the lightest option). I also used a wind break quite a lot and that combo worked outstandingly.

Food and water look up Ultra Light Backpacking. I’d highly recommend sawyer water filter, with a cnoc water bag and instead a canteen throw in a couple of smart waters in there and replace as needed and instead have a small 750 titanium pot with a alcohol stove and a cheap fire starter (like ferro rod and striker) That’s gonna be a game changer you can filter thousands of gallons of water and even if it’s the smallest stream ever easily get water to filter and the stove setup can boil water or be used to cook or start a bigger fire even when it’s cold or wet outside. A lot of people that prep don’t think about weight reductions or versatility. You gotta carry your stuff and you don’t want something that can easily fail or go bad in short order.
