I accidentally stepped on Midas golden hand by accident then I died as a gold statue. I was like “wtf?!!” Then when I respawned I did it again just to see if it was a one-off and I when I stepped on it again I was like “Ah Midas hand of gold.. I get it! Hahaha!” What a great death! the intro shows a scene from Portal 2... there are technically TWO scenes in that game that qualify. 1: after Wheatley turns off the power and tries to "speak in a frequency GlaDos can't hear", you will be running down a hallway dodging various obstacles, AND at one point GlaDos makes a side passage appear and says something like, "cross the bridge to see a Deer." Wheatley actually says something like "does she really think we're that dumb?", BUT you get an Achievement for falling for it! 2: just after escaping the big smasher trap at "The part where he kills you", Wheatley will yell at you to come back...and if you DO, he will tell you to "jump in the pit". if you do, you get the "pit boss" achievement!

Got one for you that a lot of people accidentally trigger: Broken glass, 7 Days to Die. Now, if you know your furnaces, you'll know broken glass can be melted down and reused because it is, ultimately, just super heated sand that crystalized. However, the broken glass in 7 Days to Die has one small problem: It has a USE function. And that function, if accidentally triggered, will make you EAT THE GLASS. What follows is a somewhat rare status effect "Internal bleeding", which causes your life to tick away basically 20% per second and, short of you planning ahead of time and doing literally everything you can to counter it, will no doubt lead to you bleeding from both ends. So yeah... Don't eat glass, kids.

reminds me of a subtle gag in the Elder Scrolls games. one of the best types of "light" armor is called "GLASS" armor...but it's NOT made of ACTUAL glass. so, when i picked up a "glass" ITEM and tried to use it on a forge...nothing.

oh, i just remember an obscure old game, "the dark heart of Uukrul". (or Ukruul?) near the end, there's a weird area with lots of teleporters that can only be activated with enchanted Die, which you must "cast on the ground" to activate. but, EVERY time you "use" the Die, the game asks to "do you want to cast it on the ground or swallow it?" there's actually a warning, either in-game on in the documentation, saying "if you swallow it, you will never reach the end."

In Tears of the Kingdom, if you're a sucker for Mighty Bananas, then you're surely going to fall victim to those Yiga Clan traps. Fortunately, not interacting with the Mighty Bananas in any way, or having the Yiga armor set, can help avoid the traps altogether.

One of my favorite traps in video games is in the Payday 2 Heist Mountain Master. Throughout the upper floor of the hotel are several gongs that say "(Don't) Press E to interact". If you're playing the heist in stealth, doing so immediately sounds the alarm

On Streets of Rage, if you are playing 2 player, then when you get to that choice, if you pick different answers to each other, Mr. X makes you both fight each other to the death.

Lol I couldn't resist eating the mackerel. I knew there'd be secret endings and had a feeling about that one. It was so obvious that it wasn't. Nier Gestalt/Replicant did it too, but not in a fun way. Weiss literally tells the protagonist that finding the 5 key fragments so quickly is an obvious trap. Protagonist didn't care. It was too late to stop. Play this game people.

There's another one involving Hitler. In Wolfenstein II The New Colossus, if you kick Hitler in the face while on Venus, BJ will be gunned down by a Supersoldaten. Another is in Portal 2, where Wheatley will ask Chell to jump into the pit after she goes back to it when he asks her to. Both give achievements, with the former rewarding players with the Kick It achievement and the latter rewarding them with Pit Boss.

There are two instances of this in Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door. The first instance happens in chapter 1 during the boss fight with hook tail. Approximately halfway through the battle hook tail will ask you for mercy multiple times before continuing the fight. Showing Mercy on hook tail results in a game over. The second instance of this is in chapter 3 when an anonymous fan gives Mario a slice of cake which his partner will eat the first slice of cake is perfectly fine, but the second slice of cake is poisoned and puts Mario's partner out of commission for the next fight.

What I found confusing is the time paradox in Metal Gear Solid 3 which I understand Ocelot death triggering a game over but there was another character that should do the same because Johnny in MGS1 and MGS4 who is the grandson of John who was the prison guard for Big Boss where you have the option to kill him without a game over which is funny that Konami screw up that fact.
