Fun fact: Chavo Classic was actually released while still Cruiserweight Champion, and wanted to do the job on his way out instead of just having the title vacated. This was the first time a wrestler was released as Champion, and the only other one since was also a cruiserweight champion, Enzo Amore.

WWE's inability to make new stars is a direct result of having legends and old timers constantly go over younger talent. All it does is condition the audience that these guys today don't matter and the real stars as the ones who already had name value. Imagine if they had done this during the Attitude Era? Having Bruno Sammartino come out of retirement to squash Stone Cold or Bob Backland beating the Rock in 2000. The Attitude Era made new stars because they were allowed to be built up without having to do the jobs to past their prime players at a regular.

Bob Backlund beat Bret Hart for the title around a year into the "New Generation" so they kinda did the Austin thing just a few years earlier with their biggest star.

@@Dave_ja_vu I think the issue is how prevalent it is today. Yes Hogan and Backland was an issue but not as much because the company still had believable stars. However, can you imagine someone doing that to especially Shawn of 97, Austin of 98. They would rather walk out and I don't think even Vince could try that with them.

I'm honestly surprised Vince hasn't used his pull to win himself another quick Main Title reign just for the sake of being the oldest champion in history. He can do it at any time. Here's an example right now: Shane (face) and a current champion (heel) get into a feud. Shane gets assaulted backstage and Vince does his thing by challenging the champion to a no DQ 1v1 fight at the next ppv. Shane interfers with a weapon, eventually gets knocked down and out.. In comes Triple H and ultimately helps Vince pick up the win with a precise sledgehammer to the face, and Triple H/Vince does the Pedigree. Game Over.
