Playing 1v1 helps to show the value in retaining possession and taking control, rather than just hitting stuff away and trying to make the opponent awkward. I think it is very helpful.

Even though I agree with you, I still very much agree with SpookLuke. I believe that players in the lower ranks just don't actually learn from 1v1, because they don't understand WHY something worked better or worse. Like banging the ball on net in 1s can get you a lot of goals (especially in lower ranks), but in 2s and 3s there is suddenly another defender and you're just giving possession.

While you are right, it doesn't really apply below Plat. At lower ranks the best strategy is to give the ball away and wait for your opponent to mess up badly enough that you have a free goal. Not a good set of habits to pick up.

the solution for casual games before ranked is not not to play casual at all but play the casual match as if u would play ranked and get warmed and prepared. and for mechanic stuff same as for all other skillsets: breakdown the complex skillset into smallerparts and practise the parts isolated (checkpoint plugin, trainingpack, workshopmaps). that works for any skillset in life bcos thats the way how the brain learns

Most tips are pretty spot on but 1v1s will teach you better car control, better ball control, boost control, speed and recoveries and value of meaningful pleys. Yes, you might not have all the mechanics at first but you learn and develop skills way faster because you have way more situations and time on ball in a game compared to 3v3 where the biggest things are rotations and situational awarness. Ask most pros how to improve your skills and theyll say 1s with free play and workshops.
@xlr80r_
@xlr80r_ Жыл бұрын
was about to say the same 1v1 is better to play learn things because you get all the time to yourself where as in lower ranks 2s or 3s your tm8 goes for your ball when you are dribbling

I guess it depends but what you said works for people who learn after being shown. Thats how i learn stuff. I get scored on in a new way i go "whoa ok so thats a thing that can happen" then i try it. Good point though

I like what Luke said about playing the game mode you enjoy the most at first though. You can learn all those same mechanics in 3s and 2s, but there are a lot of players who don't enjoy 1s and find it very tilting to lose solely because of their own mistakes. I was like that for a long time and honestly still don't enjoy 1s all that much. Trying to improve is great but putting yourself through something you don't enjoy for it is just not necessary.

Watching high level 1v1 is pretty useful, especially when a player gets outplayed rather than it being a pure mechanical play. Example would be a more grounded 1v1 player that focuses on bounce dribbles, and hook shots.

I've played a lot of casual matches because I dislike the pressure of having a rank. So I've been gaining some mmr, and I'm now playing with gc's in case every now and then. I'm c1 in 2s and 3s, so I'd say playing some cas matches as a warm-up is actually good for me since I play with better players in cas than ranked. But in general it might not be a good warm-up. I think copying a pros settings is still a great tip. Default settings are so garbage that most people would have no clue where to even begin fixing the settings. Copying a pros settings gives you a base from which to start tweaking to preference.
@Azikkii

Nah don’t do that. Play what you’re comfortable with. Set your own base by tweaking as you play.
@kiiturii
@kiiturii Жыл бұрын
@@Azikkii nah there's just some settings that are objectively bad for you, and it will be highly beneficial to get used to optimal settings before your own settings start to hold you back, which could be hundreds or even thousands of hours in, when resetting your muscle memory will be a very frustrating process. When Luke says this is his biggest regret he says that because he chose to copy awful settings from a pro, which was driving with left stick, and this is still holding him back because it's so hard to reset that muscle memory. His tip should be to do research on optimal settings rather than flat out saying not to copy

When to shadow, etc. Try to do this before you hop on ranks. I promise you it gives you momentum before you even warm up in freeplay/ranks.

I may only be a diamond player but I have noticed a big thing thatss a problem around my skill level is the fact that people have trouble reading the ball still and rotate the wrong way because of that. So one thing I like to do in freeplay seeing how I don't have access to special maps without a pc is just hitting the ball in weird ways. Not trying to score a goal or anything. Just hit the ball off the wall and try to get possesion of it again with the ball only hitting the ground one time per hit. So essentially hit the ball, let ball hit wall, let ball bounce once and try to hit the ball off the wall again before it bounces twice. It got me much better at reading the ball. Now if I see someone hitting the ball when im rotating back, ill know which side to be on before the ball hits the ground. Also helps understand what the opponent might try to make a play on. Helps you know what you should try to follow and what to let your team mate push. Don't know how much sense this makes to other people but it worked for me. My positioning is probably one of my better attributes in league.

Nice tips @SpookLuke. I found out if I change my off- ball cam swivel speed in setting to high I can switch off ball cam to instantly view what in front of me when going for boost "after" I make a clear or pass even if it takes burning boost to get full boost. This keeps me in the game, steals boost from opponent, and always keeping me boosted up. Also i love the fact that you address to NOT go for boost (B.O.B) on Kickoffs. Cheating up to the ball is better... So Please plat players listen up. And please address player rotating ALL THE WAY BACK to camping under the goal with tm8 is challenging and makes a play, and then looks back and the other tm8 is way back at the goal, What?? BTW, I use 1v1s as my training before Freeplay.. I bind my Boost button to (A) and my Jump is set to X. This allows my thumb to fit perfectly over but buttons! ad give my index finger freedom to use the top R-button much easier.

You actually might benefit from mapping boost to a button not controlled by the same finger that controls jump. Making this configuration eliminates accidental stall flipping speed aerials. I got to champ in many game modes in both solo and group queue and have maintained that rank for seasons now. I have nearly zero mechanical skill, like I can't even dribble or do wall hits consistently at all, and focused basically only on rotation and game sense. It's true that my only way to rank up now is to work on my mechanical skill, but it also goes to show that just fundamentals can take you pretty damn high.

honestly I don't care if it's the meta to demo at least a few times a game. if it happens it happens, but I'm not going to do it on purpose. I absolutely hate that part of rocket league. so I just learned to avoid them while staying in play if I'm defending, and try to avoid demoing people unless it can't be helped because I'm going somewhere and they go right in front of me. because that's the kind of rocket league that I want to play. that is how I have fun. with as few demos as possible.

I love screwing around in free play but I hate the fact that they’ve added “defend shot” as LB is my air roll left so I can’t air roll left in free play 😑

#8 tbh for me I'm a casual i watch more rocket league than i play. I hardly practice but I made it to champion mainly cause learning game sense cause of what pros say. Everyone i play against has better mechanics but I manage to win enough to stay c2

So I’m Gc but I feel like I’ve been washed for seasons. I still get Gc, but I don’t feel like I deserve it. I’m a hard center but don’t score much. Any recommendations?

Is far post rotation outdated? I'm someone who played back in 2015. I've continued to play with that type of rotation (with passes and pushing up etc) but most team mates i find EXCLUSIVELY rotate near post. Am i doing something wrong? I'm talking C1+ ranks

I play a lot of 3’s. I can always spot a 1’s player in the lobby. They take way too much time, get dunked constantly and don’t pass. Never been a fan of 1’s. Gives you bad habits for every other mode.

untrue. 1s probably promotes the fastest growth in terms of mechanics, shadowing. I find people will be a high rank in 2s, then hop into a 1s match and realize they have been WAY to dependant on other people, that they actually have some really bad defense. You should be able to defend EVERY ball in a game. Its the mark of a good player that he has the gamesense to know his teammate has the better angle.

@@thecorvus100 1s players generally have way more mechs, but lack the gamesense required for 2s and 3s, simply because they dont play those modes. However, i believe 1s is better for the long run by gaining mechanics first and the gamesense later. Just look at players such as firstkiller, apparentlyjack, chronic, ayyjayy, majicbear, and even comm. They all started out as 1s mains

Just for reference tip no.8 doesnt apply if your overall goal is to go pro in the future like me. Putting yourself in situations where you are going for stuff way out of your reach forces you to learn how to recover from screwing up and increases your overall ability to pull off more risky plays, but if your goal is to go from plat to diamond whiffing a ground to air dribble as last man is just gonna get you scored on. Hope this helps!

I know for me, changing my mindset from "get the ball away from the opponent/stop the ball from entering my goal" to "how can I use my car to take away x shooting lane(s)" made a big difference. Defence at mid to high level becomes less about stopping the ball from being in the goal and more about how to make the ball threaten you less
