I really love that you tell it straight, Jess. You are a great advocate for inmates, but you also admit that they often made mistakes to get there. You call out bad COs, but you also explain why they do what they do and commend the good ones. So happy this channel is out there, keep up your great work!
@pmariec14 жыл бұрын
And, YES. Take care of COs. Give them adequate pay, a livable wage. Give them good sick leave, med insurance. Give them mental and emotional support and counseling. Give them HIGH LEVELS OF TRAINING for de-escalation, trauma-informed care, proper restraint techniques, and then HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE for using that training properly. Good pay and benefits will keep them from perceiving a need to supplement their income through illicit trading with inmates. Stress-reduction efforts to help them keep level-headed on the job. Zero tolerance for abusive techniques or contraband.
@l.csmalls68794 жыл бұрын
Totally agree
@jessicacharlton73474 жыл бұрын
Adequate pay/ livable wages, sick leave, and medical insurance are basic things that all jobs should have to provide. Our jails and prisons would have way less inmates if people could just get a job and be able to meet their basic needs.

Former inmate here. During covid we no longer had bunkies and our dorms where in a open area separated by walls like you would see in a public bathroom, so each room was like a cubicle. Some of the ones on the wall side had windows with solid metal mesh but you could open a plexiglass sheet up and down to 'open' it and I used to hide shit in the gap between the window and plexiglass. When the window was shut you couldn't see it. Slice the inside lining to your state coat to hide shit, and chapstick containers. Your videos of life there are pretty spot on and you've encouraged me that people can absolutely change and others will see it. Your awesome

Please, please make a video on how inmates pay a CO, how to figure out who is bringing in stuff, consequences for an inmate who were to tell on a CO - would someone believe them, ramifications for that inmate by other staff or inmates, etc.!!
@chay72244 жыл бұрын
there’s really not any consequences for an inmate if they tell on the officer, which is almost always what happens. i’m a c/o

I didn't have any visits either. I told my family not to come. It would've been 6 to 7 hour drive one way. I was only there for about 6 months anyway. It sucked, I was there for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years day.

As a C.O i can safely say that i or my coworkers have never ripped apart any pictures.. Not sure what hellish prisons would do something that vile. I actually go out of my way to not completely trash up the place. It's a little bit of respect you gotta have for each other. Inmates are there for a reason but most are willing to change their ways and we are simply doing or job.

I have been a felon for over 10 years. Before that, I grew up a middle class mallrat. Being on the other side of the conviction line has been a game-changer. I don't know why your video appeared on my feed, it's not my usual content...maybe because I've started researching XA groups. I wanted to say kudos for being brave and breaking the stigma that felons have. You go, girl.
