Do a 3 finger power chord shape, then just drop the high octave note a half step down. So for instance, a D chord would be 5th fret A, 7th fret D and 6th fret G. It also works with the regular shape of a 3 finger power chord, if you're starting on the D string - like I do in the video. Hope that helps!

This video is the exact reason I don’t consider Green Day to be pop punk. I think American idiot is their only “pop punk album.” But dookie, and insomniac are punk. Nimrod is alternative rock. And warning is folk Punk.
@SugarpillProd
@SugarpillProd 2 жыл бұрын
I would definitely consider them pop punk, but they're certainly a different flavour of pop punk. This video was more inspired by the Screeching Weasel / Blink 182 skate punk sound. However, I always feel Green Day are pulling more influence from early punk bands, like Sex Pistols & Ramones, and adding in a more pop-oriented sound to that influence. I agree they vary from album to album, as you said. Though I'd say Dookie is probably the most pop punk they ever sounded.
@Benjarmon
@Benjarmon 2 жыл бұрын
@@SugarpillProd I agree. Blink had that skate punk brand while Green Day was more rooted in classic rock tinged punk sound. Aiding to billie’s use of solos and such.

I promise you not everyone liked that sound and there’s a reason it was short lived. That style is overly simplistic and becomes too easy to pigeon hole yourself, hence why every single band that was in that category struggled moving to more musically diverse soundscapes.
