You didn't ask me, but I have had my ULA Circuit for 5 + years. It is great. I don't baby it and it still looks nearly new. As I have upgraded my equipment, it has become a little big especially for my warm weather trips, but I have a hard time replacing it because it is so comfy, durable, reasonably light and well thought out. Been eyeing the sexy frameless Dyneema packs for a lighter loadout, but for $145 and I know that ULA CDT will last as long as I want to wear it, it is tough to spend the extra bucks. Just one man's opinion.

It's all about the hike and yourself. the gear just sustains you through the event of hiking and camping. It is a personal system to be able to do the things we love. That is all. My backpack is a NF, old beauty, 10+ years old. I am more concerned w the shape I am in, and how I manage a kick ass hike. Boots and the socks system are the one, all important item.

Hey man nice gear load out! I wanted to recommend a rain jacket to you I think you might like. It's the frogg toggs xtreme lite! Awesome rain jacket!! Medium only weighs 7oz. It's super lightweight, breathable and packable! I got the blue version. The material is their new dri-pore 2. The interior is soft and nice on the skin. The exterior is very waterproof. Its not a dwr coating so it won't wet out. Way better than their cheapest in my opinion. Believe me i have gone through a few of the ones you used for the AT thru hike. They work but overall the xtreme is way better. Adjustable wrist cuffs, hood and waist. Darwin on the trail does a review on it too. In his affordable gear part 4 i think.? I bought 2 of them and their only $39.99. Totally worth the extra $20 bucks. Nice ula pack too. It was way ahead of it's time! Stay safe! Hike on!

Nicely done - thank you! If you could add one of those add-up-the-weight summaries, that would be great. When folks say x pounds I always wonder what's included and excluded -- e.g. cell phone -- and what they consider a "consumable" (e.g. bug repellant, BIC lighter) that doesn't count toward the base weight.

I use and highly recommend a Kelty Tioga or a Kelty Trekker...both Backpacks are guaranteed for life...even a Zpacks warranty is about a year or one through hike...you can still carry a 10 lb base weight or less with these...I own both designs...if Kelty never made Backpacks 99.9999999999 of thru hikers or Sauntering Backpackers wouldn't exist today. . .Kelty Backpacks started the modern Backpacking movement. . .I am a Sauntering thru Backpacker... P.S. Who was the people that set 10 lbs or less as Ultralight? Was there a committee that voted on that information? Or did somebody just come up with a arbitrary number that they thought look good. . .? I always learn something from your videos...

Long time listener and just binged some video of yours cause I'm going up to the Catskills this week to bag some peaks, I have 1/100 your hiking experience but our gear load is super similar which is reassuring, I'm tent camper, pro cook system, also after 5 years just started carrying a bullshit knife someone gave me as a stocking stuffer that I never use, and all my gear is old af I don't have a ul pack I still use an old 55l ems pack I bought in 2010 and I see no point in changing cause it still works and I'm used to it. I know you hate gear shit because everybody is like religious about there style but I enjoyed the fuck out of this and I too am going to hit up the greenway trail this winter so I dig the input. Fuck anyone who knocks the gear, the gear is second to the goal. Getting over the mountain is all that matters I'll do it with a a glad bag and gallon of water if that's all I got. Kyle, it's not about the latest and greatest gear but about what works, items that have endured the test of time and use and abuse. I sadly had to bury a Coleman Peak One stove I used for 37 years, a gift from a friend. I have military surplus gear that have survived backpacking trips in five continents. Some items that supposedly were the latest and greatest were pieces of shit and ruined a couple of camping adventures when they failed or leaked. Use what works for you and save your money; let others test the latest and greatest.
