It's a good refresher for us all, and we're so glad it was helpful for you :). The Holy Days of Obligation (outside of Sunday) really keep us on our toes every year.... always have to see here what the Bishop decides to do with some of them!

We have less Holy Days of Obligation in New Zealand - it is quite a shock if I’m watching USA Catholic content and they say “and today is a Holy Day of Obligation…” and I have a small panic and check and it’s usually not for us. I worked in a parish office and I’d often have to remind our church cleaning volunteers not to tip Holy Water down the sink when they washed the fonts! Same with blessed palms after Palm Sunday! (Not down the sink but also not respectfully storing them until they are burnt for Ash Wednesday)
@catholicmomanddaughter11 ай бұрын
Very interesting! In our diocese the bishop will often move or even suspend a holy day (if it falls on a Monday), so that keeps us on our toes. Yes- the palms from Palm Sunday get the worst treatment... bits scattered on the ground after mass or left behind in pews. It's crazy!

Thanks for all these tips. I would list things like contacting a priest in my phone because when it's an emergency, you might not be thinking clearly. I would also keep original documents in a "red" container, so when you need to evacuate in an emergency (fire, flood, earthquake, blizzard) you grab one container and have ALL of your documents, religious and secular, with you.

@catholicmomanddaughter9 ай бұрын
We usually donate them to a local Protestant charity that is happy to have them. Hope that helps!
@mpkropf50625 ай бұрын
@@catholicmomanddaughterI was told that would only be encouraging Protestants that their Bibles are approved. And that we should destroy them because they are not the complete word of God when they have books missing.

Days of Obligation: What should you do if you missed a day?
@catholicmomanddaughter11 ай бұрын
Hello- this is a great question! If you miss a day, the best thing to do (at least this is what we have been counseled to do here) is tell the priest at your next confession.
@RedRiverMan11 ай бұрын
great video but just a note, some protestant bibles-the old king james for instance-has the total cannon too so I'd look for an imprimatur or a Catholic bishop's note.

What are we supposed to do with the palms from Palm Sunday? I’ve never heard mention of bulk collections.
@gwenewing683711 ай бұрын
When I was a kid they collected them and used the ashes for ash Wednesday
@NaruIchiLuffy11 ай бұрын
There should be a way to return them to your priest in your parish prior to Ash Wednesday (beginning of Lent). If I recall correctly, they are burned by the priest, and it is those ashes that are used in the Ash Wednesday liturgy (cross on the forehead) - Feb 14 this year.
@sam1258711 ай бұрын
If you attend church regularly, ask the preist. If you don’t attend regularly then next time you go just bring them with, go to father after mass and offer them to be used for ash Wednesday. This is a good reminder to me as my church didnt ask for them this year.
@christinebravomom571111 ай бұрын
My parents were cradle Catholics, married in the church, and made sure we all got our CCD, sacrament preps, and went to Mass. They were founding members of their parish and were active members and financial supporters for many, many decades. But when my father was dying, we only got an answering machine. The pastor didn't return the call until two days after Pop had passed. It grieves me to this day that my father passed away without the benefits of the sacraments, but at least he had a funeral Mass. During the years my mother was widowed and she became increasingly home bound, the parish did nothing except send envelope and pledge packets. She was so disgusted that she insisted there be no services at all.

We are so sorry, Christine. It's hard to understand why things like this happen. We are praying for you and your family. May God bring you peace and healing.
@mlp02311 ай бұрын
What do you mean that your parents were founding members of your parish?
@corinnecavanagh304711 ай бұрын
There are translations that include the deuterocanonical books such as I and II Maccabees that are not Catholic translations (such as the New English Bible). So I would recommend not using the BIG MAC method as the sole criteria. Also, if they have notes, you want to make sure they are authentically Catholic. So I would advise sticking to the Imprimatur.
@catholicmomanddaughter11 ай бұрын
Thanks for this information! We love that we are always learning more from our viewers. We get a lot of bibles donated to our church library (where we volunteer), so we will be on the watch for anything like the New English Bible.

A few years back I dropped the Host and panicked with a loud "OH NO!!". The Eucharistic Minister panicked. A guy behind said "Throw it away". I n a louder voice I said "We cant do that". Finally the Eucharistic Minister picked it up and consumed it.

@rbnmnt33415 ай бұрын
@@mpkropf5062 haha. That is what you have been brainwashed to say. Let me educate you. Jesus, being JEWISH, of a JEWISH mother, with JEWISH apostles, DID NOT build a ROMAN catholic church. Furthermore, there is absolutely no BIBLICAL evidence that Jesus, Mary, Peter or any of the apostles EVER believed, taught or practiced ANYTHING ROMAN catholic. No mention by anybody of the papacy, the rosary, the assumption, immaculate conception, prayer to Mary, peter the rock or chief shepherd, nothing in scripture to support those lies.
