Tip 7 is godly. Meaning you use Gain to automate the dynamic, and the fader to adjust volume. That's freaking dope
@robmodusmusic Жыл бұрын
Yeah the gain plug-in at the top of the chain is brilliant, never thought of that. One thing though, I’ve always manually adjusted gain piece by piece so I get the visual representation in the “size” of the waveform… how I wish we could get the benefits of both these methods!!

Condenser mics for the most part have cardioid patterns, Don't get too close to a SM57 you'll get too much bass because of the proximity effect.

That 45 degree angle tip is genius!!!! Thanks!! I have a SM81 and it sounds great in my apartment as long as I'm not right next to a wall. I had a SM7B at one point too and I thought it sounded a lot worse oddly. Seen the SM7B get thrown around a lot as a suggestion but I didn't like the way it sounded

I love my SM7B. I bought it specifically because I do not have a treated room (can't really treat my current workspace) and it sounds great.

I would like to vouch for the beta 58a. Amazing micrphone, though it is probably about double an sm58.

Very cool and useful video. I have only 1 discrepancy. I'm a singer and I have a home studio. I do my own recordings and now I'm learning to produce, mix and master my own music. I don't have anyone to adjust the gain on the mic during the recording process. I do have the gain on my audio interface set at a no- clipping level. Post production I will listen, look for clipping and change the gain to compensate. Mostly the recording levels have been "good" with my settings so I don't usually have to do a lot of automation. I sing mostly country music and Musical theater/ Broadway showtunes. Can you make videos about music genres? to make a song on a specific genre, choose the right sounds And stuff like that? Much appreciated.

I use the gain plugin trick in Logic, but I put it at the end of the chain, so it doesn't interfere with the level of compression, saturation, eq, etc. Great video, thanks!

Thank you that' s great! tip 3 is very useful as I didn't know how to use the track alternative function in logic. Tip 7 is also another one I never thought about and really cool but may be the automated gain could be put at the end of the plugins chain rather than the beginning... ?so that you don't mess up with your gain staging...?

Very useful information! I’m going to try it out on the last recorded female voice, especially the last tip can help with the already recorded vocal! But my vocal recording needs a lot more testing which you mentioned in the first tips. Thanks for these very helpful tips. (By the way: „GAD“ has changed into „vewilli“ without me doing anything ???)

Loved the gain tip and the reverb too although all very good. Interested if the reverb effect could also be achieved by side chaining the LV to a compressor of the reverb return or would that give a different type of result ?
@NathanJamesLarsen Жыл бұрын
You can do that too. Would have to really adjust the attack and release to dial it in

Have put myself a reminder to use separeta compressors on vocals (and everywhere if I need more than 5 db) Currently got 1 logic compressor + OTT (25% up 45 down), sounds fantastic 🤔 will experiment 🦥

One thing worth mentioning with gain automation is using the new gain tool in Logic Pro. I used to use the gain plugin to do this but now it's so much quicker to chop up the vocal parts and adjust each phrase so it averages roughly the same amount of gain. Also for me personally, having too much automation everywhere in the project just starts looking messy and I would rather leave this for effects and volume.

All your tips in all the videos are simply great! You should get at least ten times more views! I (the uglier one in the picture) use mainly Russian condenser Oktava for vocals (and for many other things, it comes with a selection of different capsules) and SM57 (I prefer the Beta) for some more extreme things. Now I must try the 58. I have done lots of live work and 58 is of course the workhorse, but I have never really tried it for vocals in the studio for real. I really don't know why not.

@@majorwaveproductions he uses handheld as a stylistic choice, yet the camera just jitters around like crazy. there is nothing smooth or nice about it.
@majorwaveproductions Жыл бұрын
@@patrick5301 True, but it's not too infuriating to watch at least imo. I know it's not smooth since it's just a handheld, but it's also not absolutely terrible. I've seen content far worse on youtube where the cameraperson cannot stop violently shaking the camera, if it's violent shaking then it annoys me but this is fine, at least imo, you can have your own opinion, all good
