Good stuff guys and super relevant questions! Appreciate the thought that went into this video! What about: “will my wife kill me if I spend this much on golf clubs if I am a 25 handicap?”

Good video again guys. My number 1 piece of advice (if it isn’t a specialist manufacturer fitting) is have an Open mind! When I went for my iron fitting in 2015 (yes I may look at new ones soon) I was dead set on either Mizuno or Titleist .... tried multiple clubs and nothing could compare, for me, feel wise and numbers wise with the Cobra FlyZ+ I now have in the bag. Amazing feeling clubs and great looks down behind the ball .. and not to mention significantly cheaper so it meant I could splash out on a new bag as well. Win all round.

Can I get fitted with my own clubs? Like change the shaft or the length

Great information, thank you. Now, would you recommend someone who is beginning, and has only 5 classes under their belt in a practice range to get fitted?

and don't forget to take a few balls to the fitting you typically play with so you get some real feedback on your strikes with the fitted clubs!

If you are thinking of changing your irons in the medium term, but want to add a long iron/ hybrid into your set up in the short term what should you do?
@kymstock18524 жыл бұрын
Maybe buy an adjustable hybrid so you can match it to your new irons in the future for proper gapping distance ?
@midlifebiker74244 жыл бұрын
Hybrid is the better options as you can buy a pre gloved and sell/trade later. Hybrids are more forgiving than long irons and help with using fairway woods off the deck being similar swing action.

Should you have lessons first, followed by a fitting with your established swing or fitted and changed your swing around them? Could the answer be lessons and fitting at the same time, where the clubs can be adjusted as you develop your golf game.
@midlifebiker74244 жыл бұрын
Depends on how consistent you are. I would start with a couple of lessons first. If you are at the stage that head to head comparisons are making a difference then get fitted.
@seymourbutts5634 жыл бұрын
You'll get way more out of a fitting if you have some sort of consistency.

These are great questions! I got fitted more than a month ago and it was great. Grass driving range and nice balls. Ordered the clubs that I was fitted for but when I played with it (and I played with it 7 times) but I noticed that it wasn't going anywhere near what I was hitting during the fitting. Maybe a club short. Any reason why?
@midlifebiker74244 жыл бұрын
Have you been back to the range? Hitting 5 consecutive balls when warm should get the ave distance rather then gaming with all the variables including wind etc Did you get the lofts adjusted or shaft lengths?
@alangreaves84754 жыл бұрын
Do you know what the altitude of the tracking system was set to? The higher the altitude, the further the ball will fly for a given speed and trajectory.

Alan Greaves I’m in California, It was on a trackman and grass driving range with Pro V.s. I could see myself hitting the 200 yard flag with a 6 iron. I had to wipe my glasses cause I couldn’t believe it myself. I used my range finder to pin the flag and it did say 200 yards. I don’t think altitude was an issue.

If they are forged irons maybe the lofts were not done correctly or got bent out somehow. I’d advise checking ur lofts.

Any medium to high handicap golfer does not swing consistently enough for golf club ‘fitting’ to offer any real benefit. If all you are doing is compensating for an inherent swing fault what happens when your swing changes, as it inevitably will? Do you get re-fitted? I’m sure the golf club retailers can’t wait for mugs who think buying more and more expensive ‘fitted’ club sets will offer an easy solution to their swing problems. The real answer always was, and always will be, put the time and effort in, save money on clubs and buy golf lessons from a competent pro. Just my opinion after playing golf for over 30 years.

I've watched a lot of videos as I've started to play golf and it's no coincidence that all PGA coaches suggest lessons and all golf vendors suggest fitting and new clubs! They're both selling their product/service. I agree with you, John; if I'm always missing right, then I'm either aiming wrong, slicing or similar. A good golfer can play with bad clubs (e.g. Rick Shiels going round with the Slazenger set) but I've yet to see a video of a beginner play a few holes with a £200 set, a £600 set and a £1300 set and see what differences we would note. By beginner, I mean someone looking to move up from the stuff they're first swinging (e.g. half package set, second hand clubs.etc) to their first full-time set.

I agree. It is 99% technique and 1% equipment.

Howabout the height of the individual and having the fitting and swing speed match as a minimum.
@ajack338011 күн бұрын
charlesking8033, I agree. My tendency is a hook and whilst some is technique, most game-improver clubs have a draw-bias, and my height/arm length combo means I need a 2 deg flat lie. Playing with standard clubs means the face is doing everything to close and so I’ve spent years messing with my swing, only to find that my natural swing is actually OK if the kit I use is more suited to me. You can get a fit for around £30 and you don’t have to buy clubs if the numbers align to what you currently play. Lie and swing speed/shaft flex are good basic things to get right and are factual things and not determined by swing-repeatability.

The club fitters know more than us but watch they don't convince you to buy the clubs that have been on the shelf for weeks...seen it happen countless times....total opposite spec to your needs....do a little homework on lie angles and lofts.....most are honest and trustworthy I might add!

Instead of asking or being told by your golf partner what club they going to use, for their next shoot, more relevant would be what loft it is.
