That Reiner/CSO Liszt Mephisto Waltz from 1955 is a wonderful performance and shows what a virtuoso orchestra the CSO was in the Reiner era. The big tune is lush and perfectly judged. The trills in the duet between the concertmaster John Weicher and principal flute Ernst Liegl are perfectly matched in level and speed. Wonderful musicianship. Just before the coda there is an extraordinarily vivid harp fusilade. Beautiful recording.

That looks like a really nice set of RCA LS classical albums. 👍👍👍 Of all of the albums you showed, the Reiner Strauss Waltzes really grabbed by attention. 😻 Imagining or even seeing men and women dressed in their finery as depicted on the album cover evokes a time when decorum was the standard. The men and women adorned the dance floor of the ballroom as the music created a beautiful tapestry. How romantic and sweet it is. ❤

The 1960 Reiner Chicago Symphony Johann Strauss anthology is a great record and belongs in everyone's classical collection. Reiner's subtle tempo variations bring the Viennese sweetness with the Chicago precision. One of my favorite Reiner/CSO recordings.

I have a buddy from my Tanglewood days that has all the RCA Living Stereo CD reissues as well as many that RCA reissued early in the CD days on super budget. As we know lots of wonderful performances there 😊

Great summary of some really excellent RCAs. Thanks very much! I am fortunate to have the Cisco reissue of the Kreutzer sonata and I think it is excellent. But I don’t have an original for comparison. Unfortunately, the reissue seems to be out of print. (Amazingly, I found my copy at a thrift store.)

That's very informative but I don't know where you get these at NM so cheaply. For instance, that last Strauss Waltzes is much more expensive than $30 on Discogs and ebay.

Just found one on eBay for $29.99 NM -. Have a look. You may have to be patient or get lucky in the used bins. Presently, there are no Indianapolis or Canadian pressings for sale on Discogs.

The Monteux Dvorak is not available digitally, how does it compare with my favorite with Kertesz conducting? Actually several of those albums are not available digitally so LP collectors consider yourself lucky!

I love the Decca Kertesz Dvorak 7 (and 8!), but the Monteux recording and performance is every bit as fine. I have both and wouldn’t give either up from the permanent collection.
