Our dogs are both mixed. The female has been with us for 11 years, since her birth, and she still looks like a 4 year old. She has the energy of a young dog. She even defended our house from burglers a few days ago and man did she scare them away!! There was blood from a burgler all over the yard. She's sweet, she's loyal, she's beautiful and she's very protective of our children and our home. The male is old, we don't know how old because we found him on the streets a few years ago, but he's very loyal❤

My mixed shelter dog died yesterday after 10 years. He was annoying, not wholly obedient but loyal and brave and with a good heart. He was so well liked by all the local dogs and their humans. And he was my friend. ALWAYS adopt and preferably get a mongrel, mutt, call them what you will, and you will have a great gift.

I always get annoyed with people who drive hundreds or thousands of miles to spend thousands on a purebred pup while totally disregarding all the dogs waiting in crowded local shelters, mixed breeds or not.

I was going to mention they tend to be healthier but you had that one covered. IF someone is insistent on a pure breed please remember for nearly every breed there exists a rescue group dedicated to that particular breed. Please check into this before buying pups. So many doggies need homes out there mixed and otherwise 👍🏼❤️

I have never bought a dog from a breeder all mine are shelter/found/ rehomed dogs. I have had a few purebred dogs mostly mixed or just dogs. No need to spend big $$ when patience and petfinder will put you in a great companion.

I had a stray I found in the street. She was about 3 and lived to be 16. Those were some of the best 16 years of my life and considering the shelter near me doesn’t have a no kill policy means that I know for a fact I saved her life considering she was scrawny and bigger then average (and not a puppy) I don’t imagine she would have been adopted. I miss her every day. I only adopt from shelters, the humane society in most cases. I want to give my mutts the best and longest lives they can, dogs don’t deserve to be mistreated or killed because they aren’t adopted.

Another Tip, just from personal experience: Don't worry if the dog you visit at the shelter isn't immediately in love with you, they're just going through a lot in that moment. My girl was super shy around me for the first week and now she goes everywhere I go like a best bud :)

I live on a Caribbean island. Most dogs here are mixed breed. I had no idea that they have it so rough in other counties. I have a 100 pound pup- Akita x Rott x Bullmastiff. He's mumma's baby ❤❤❤

I adore "mixies" more than the pure breed. I have 14 years+ mixed breed dog and she is beautiful, healthy and seems like she's planing to stay here in our family for another decade. Talking about dogs the most important thing for me is their good health and a long lifespan so in this case the gene pool takes an essential role. I think because the puppies takes the best genetic information from both parents, there must be a huge variaty of it.

I have a mixed dog that is 13 years. Had another dog that we rescued from the street and she spent 10 years with us, when we got her the vet thinks she was 6 (so 16?), she died last year from old age. I thought of getting purebred but i learned they have a shorter life expediency , so I might just get another mixed dog.

One of the best protection dogs I ever had was a Weimaraner mixed with a Cane Corso. That dog should be standardized if someone is looking for a hunting dog that is also a 10/10 protection dog.

I have mix with Dalmatian and Local Indian Breed, and his ear look like " Dobby" from Harry Potter. He's a excellent guard. 4 days ago, he chase after a stray dog (which is larger than him) and bite it, But he's no match against Rott or Lab. All in all he's good, healthy and energetic, I only wish if he stop killing squirrel.

Jersey Girl adopted us after getting rid of a number of perspective new persons..yeah well her bio description did disclose the fact that she was FIERCELY LOYAL. LOL And that she was. Bearing no knowledge of what Miss Jersey had been through what with her previous family losing their home, spending many nights in shelters with no pets allowed signs or camping on proffered sofas. Crashing strikes of lightning and angry thunderbolts pursued her violently shaking little form as she ran about desperately searching for an exit from the horrors of the Storm. TheTerrors she suffered. Jersey Girl got really excited about some of the Fast Food restaurants we passed by and really really excited when we got close to some.. Many of the families who live a life in Flux of residency have revealed how their days became spent driving around prospecting buy one get one and all you can eat deals. Go figure..but I for one am taking notes and remaining teachable. You just never know....it happen

Myself and my family would adopt a mixed breed dog we have had dogs who were mixed breed we have a dog the vets we bring her to say she's a Jackie. We had a dog years ago the reason I got him was because my daughter was afraid of them. We had two dogs who were mixed one of those myself and my family believe was sent to us shortly after my husband died he always knew when we were down he had this quirky thing he used to do to cheer us up the other little one was his son in 2012 we found out my son had cancer that little guy wouldn't leave him alone.

I agree 90%. Just one thing (that's very debatable so dont come at me), though. No. 6 is kind of misleading. It doesn't matter if your dog is a mixed breed or not--it just matters how long its parents and grandparents, etc. lived. If its mom and dad were purebred (not of the same breed) and they only lived to let's say 8 years, that doesn't mean this mixed breed will live any longer just because its mixed. *Just like people*. It's the amount of inbreeding in the dog's genes--which bad breeders might utilize to get the "perfect features."

Actually purebred dogs are mixed. Just the akc says there purebred. But they are still mixed breeds. There’s no difference between a purebred and a mixed breed. So you can still adopt a purebred and call it a mixed breed because they are mixed.

purebred are called purebred because we humans dont let any other breeds in their gene pool, purebred dogs most often come to be by inbreeding, which is why almost all breeds have certain health risks they are more prone to than others, so there is a difference

Its also okay to want a purpose bred dog just make sure its being done ethically. Purpose bred is not the same as purebred.

The dog is actually WOMANS best friend. While men were hunting (when humans still lived in caves etc), women had more time around the wolves and even going to the point where they were comfortable enough to breastfeed the baby wolves.
