I can vouch for the G9 stills, it's a pretty amazing camera for that and now with the latest firmware update the video, is apparantly pretty amazing too. People still poke at the Af but hey that's old news, the AF is a good match for anything out there and better than some (Yes I shoot with a couple of other big names too). If anything the G9 is over spec'd, great value and the lens choice is vast.

I agree. For that, reason, I shoot in the morning and evening outdoors as well as twilight for straight out the camera 4K. The G9 seems to bring out the best look for the animals I video. The G9 is a brilliant piece of kit. So many great attributes. Don't think you mentioned the high definition composite mode or the fantastic ergonomics, but I might have missed it. The only real negative is the continuous autofocus system when used for video. (For some types of photography the autofocus is excellent). When it comes to value for money, I don't think there is anything that comes close. 🙂

Thanks for the review. Much appreciated as I contemplate getting the G9. For almost $300 less, I can get a new Canon EOS RP direct from Canon ($997+tax for the G9 body, $720+tax for the Canon RP body). As a hybrid shooter (stills + video), how much do you think the G9 has to offer to compensate for it being a MFT sensor compared to a much cheaper Canon full-frame?
@PostColorGear3 жыл бұрын
stabilization. and probably frames per second. (I would have to compare them side by side) - it really is all about preference. That price for an RP isn't bad, at all. I picked up the G9 as a hybrid shooter myself because of the 20fps, the 4k 60fps in video, etc.
@bradstoops88623 жыл бұрын
@@PostColorGear Thanks. Are you happy with the image quality on stills despite the MFT sensor?
@PostColorGear3 жыл бұрын
@@bradstoops8862 I am. It will get noisy once you reach 8000 ISO. I've done some tests and it doesn't really start to deteriorate until 20000 ISO. However, in dark scenes, the RP would do better. It all depends on what you plan on shooting/filming.

@@ShawnZiemba I'd lean more towards the G9. The GH5 DOES have features that the G9 doesn't but owning the G9, I haven't felt compelled to buy the GH5 at all. The extra features, which aren't important to me, aren't worth the extra $400.

FF is a very tempting system with all the new manufacturers learning and improving their new mirrorless systems. And IME with the G9 unless you plan on going wildlife and shoot 4K videos with super teles, a FF Mirrorless would be the better option. Consider that Panasonic is the creator of mirrorless, and innovator of mirrorless tech, the S series looks to be a great option. But those long-super-tele's will be huge and expensive. Thus, Either would work for wildlife, G9 or FF.

Webcam limitations. I've read that 60fps limits recording to 10mins ( due to a heat issue ), and 30fps to 30 minutes ( an EU tax restriction ). Is there the same restrictions when used as a webcam ? The GH5 has no time restrictions, so for long ( 1hr/2hr ) broadcasts, I'm guessing the GH5 is better suited.

Great vid. I love my G9. But I've always wondered what the HDMI output was for? How do you use it to record video in 10 bit? Thanks!
@PostColorGear4 жыл бұрын
It's for outputting to something that can read and record that signal, such as something from Atomos or the Blackmagic Video Assists. They're nice because its a "win / win". You can record for longer, view a larger screen, and record in better codecs than the camera can record in. They come with a decently hefty price tag, depending on what you're looking at and want to do, but they are absolutely worth it.
