I am from NYC and Zurich is cheaper than living in NYC. Example: Childbirth cost us $35K in NYC vs $4k in Zurich. Taxes also lower in Zurich. Free school, low cost university, healthcare, safety, quality of life, family life and of course the usual nature/environment/food/etc etc

Two sidenotes: 1) The foodregulations (and many other ones) tend to be stricter than in the EU. So you really get the best quality 2) education is free until the university level (books and stuff excluded of course). But I think people percieve it as free because it is somewhere between 600-700CHF per semester

Really enjoyed this, Jade! The natural beauty and safety in Switzerland are two reasons I often hear from expats I work with, and I completely understand why those were big factors for you. Your story about learning a new language and adjusting to the food quality really resonated with me - it’s a huge part of feeling at home in a new country. I agree it's a blessing to live in Switzerland. But still - as a Swiss citizen who works hard and has their fair share of problems just like anyone, it makes me feel weird if people say things like "the scenic views would surely make one anxiety and stress free". They do if you're here on vacation. If you live here all your life, it's not that simple.

- Not having a president but rather a group of people who share the executive power and having to do so while talking to each other and reaching consensus. It's so funny and frustrating at the same time to see neighboring countries having so much problems with their politics - Right to propose a change in law and being able to vote every quarter of the year for new initiatives. People from other countries are so jallouse when it comes to this. It's really nice being asked on what to do.

I moved here for masters at the southern part, Lugano. So beautiful here, but it gets a bit lonely, basically to my observation the Swiss have tight friend groups and it’s not easy to get in (although they are really nice people). I have made some friends but foreigners who came here for a couple days for tourism (Americans & Australians). I would say Swiss is perfect but at the price of potential loneliness.

Kind of death camp situation. I don't know why people talk highly about Switzerland because the parks are unsafe, the parking meters is a mess and confusing, even the money system was so confusing. Police are terrifying like Gestapos. No wonder people are oppressed. CERN sign is founded based on Satan. Trying to open a portal to bring hell to Earth!? Look into that please. also, I didn't see pretty people. They are all ugly and body defects. I wonder why!? It was so sad and curious 🧐 I didn't feel welcome anyways. Scary feeling. I'm a digital nomad from Switzerland, currently in Thailand. I just wanted to say that it's unlikely you get your swiss citizenship within 5 years. Most people I know, who are "Papierlischwizer" got their passport after 10-12 years. Besides that, the compulsory military service from the age of 18 is a joke. A fraction of the people who have to go to the military go to the military, as there are other options like "Zivilschutz", "Zivildienst" or "Doppel UT"!

If you are referring to military interventions, yes, Switzerland is not sending troops. What Switzerland does do for other countries in need, however, is to provide humanitarian support in disasters, crises and wars. More than most other countries do. I.e. through the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross), which was founded in Switzerland and still has its headquarters there. And as far as the role in WWII is concerned, your statement is not really accurate and must be considered in a much more differentiated way than in such a superficial form. On one hand, the country (surrounded by the Axis powers) came to terms with the Nazis in a certain sense; on the other hand, many people survived by being accepted into Switzerland, even if many others were turned away. A generalised black and white statement like yours in relation to WWII certainly does not do justice to the situation at the time, both for Switzerland and other countries.
