I had an undeserved hit 12 mo ago, two dives in the HBO chamber, overnight admission to the hospital, etc etc etc. Showed my DAN insurance card, filled out one piece of paper- never paid a penny. DAN covered 100%, my private insurance was never even billed. So thankful to EVERYONE involved.

Great video as always. The only thing I would add is that DAN will also cover new students if the instructor signs them up for free during training. Another great benefit

I have been diving since 2000, and got DAN membership right at the start, thanks to advice from my instructor. On my 25th dive, I had a (stupid) equipment malfunction, and got bent. I called the emergency hotline, and was given all the info I needed, including setting me up with the recompression chamber in Seattle. Talking to a pro who understands what a diver who gets bent might be feeling...well, I felt calm and supported. I now have close to 300 dives, and I will NEVER let my DAN membership lapse! It should be a requirement for all divers!

Thanks for this video. I’m on holiday in a Ecuador at the moment, have just completed my PADI rescue diver course and am having a few days of down time before heading to the Galapogas for 5 days of hopefully brilliant diving. I’d heard of DAN but didn’t really know what it was. I’ve just signed up and am LOVING Alert Diver whilst relaxing at the beach. Thanks for letting me know about this ✌️🤙🤙

I just paid my very first DAN subscription this recent June as a newly certified OW diver. James has made my day by providing a thorough and complete explanation on why joining ie supporting DAN is truly a smart thing to do as a diver, both new and experienced. Kudos!

Really great video James! I've been a DAN member shortly after I started diving in 2015, and like you said it's not only the peace of mind of insurance, but the whole reason why the organization exists in the first place and the amount they contribute to the industry. If I ever do become an instructor, DAN will definitely be a module I would add.

Your membership is invaluable! Thanks to our DAN members, we can extend the hotline's availability to divers worldwide. 🌏

I had been a diver for years before joining DAN. I was an occasional diver who went maybe once a year while on vacation and never thought I needed it. After all, I'm not a risk taker and always kept things safe. Then I joined a dive club so I could do more diving. Even after joining a club, I still didn't have DAN for the first year or so before a dive buddy in the club got bent. Now I have DAN, I'll tell anyone to get DAN, that dive accidents don't just happen to others and can happen to anyone.
@DiversAlertNetworkTV Жыл бұрын
That's right! We want every dive to be a safe dive however, dive accidents can happen to anyone. Take DCI, for example, it can happen to any diver regardless of how safe their dive profile may seem.

Well, recent events suggest that you are better off with an American Express credit card. Ask Woody from Dive Talk.
@przemysawstarczynowski55147 ай бұрын
Well, to be perfectly honest it sounds like you are better off with DAN insurance AND American Express loaded with $20k the minimum - this way you'll be able to save your life yourself, with or without DAN assistance, and maybe get reimbursed later on. I don't think Woody has canceled his DAN insurance policy after all. But definitely DAN insurance on it's own, without your research, planning and reliable backup 💳 seems to give a false sense of security. DAN does a great job, it's a wonderful organization, but the risk stays there with you.

Perfect timing James. Me and my daughter are currently taking the DAN First Aid course. We've been on Horizon boats with you a couple of times. Thank you for the videos, and keep them coming.

I’m glad you’re doing this video. Where I live you can also get a medical helicopter insurance to a trauma center (for any injury) and it’s insanely affordable. But every year before I fly to the Caribbean I renew my DAN policy for my kids (teens) and myself for the year. I have a DAN BC tag on my gear with my name and any medical info.

Had an accident on a dive boat out of Jupiter where I completely tore the right quadriceps off the patella while moving/slipped on the deck of the boat on the surface interval. DAN reimbursed me for ALL my expenses related to that accident - ER doctor, imaging, surgery. It took months but that’s America for you…it cost me $7000 (I actually haggled the price down for the surgery as it was out of pocket)….and DAN reimbursed ALL my receipts. As a dive pro - especially here in America/Florida I will ALWAYS have my DAN insurance.

James, as a dive professional, do you also carry DAN's professional liability insurance? If so, or if not, why? I know of some dive professionals in my area who prefer the HUB International competitor because of their higher coverage of legal defense costs, and greater flexibility in case of missed standards. Your thoughts?

Despite sounding like a good organisation, I’ve never understood the benefit to DAN, living in Australia. Medicare & private health insurers would cover your medical evac and treatment if diving in Aus / NZ. When diving outside of Aus, travel insurance should cover it . Am I missing something?

some health insurers doesn't cover extreme sport, same with travel insurance, must read the fine print of insurance also recompression chamber is expensive and Medicare & private health insurers may not fully cover it all
