Do you agree with those who are of the opinion that Tennessee is a dangerous place to live? Many people do not and they’ve come up with all sorts of explanations attempting to justify the many misfortunes of this state. Those explanations aren’t likely to hold water given the rate of crime in the state and its poor economic standing. We cannot help but see Tennessee through the eyes of those who wouldn’t want to live in the state. While doing so, we’re able to come up with the 10 reasons why Tennessee is a dangerous place to live. That is the focus of this video. Please endeavor to watch this video objectively and see if Tennessee isn’t truly dangerous.
10. Ice Storms
Let’s begin with this rather uncommon source of danger. That’s ice storms. It happens when in conditions that are so cold that drops of rain freeze. They form sheets of ice as they hit the ground. Whenever it occurs, broken tree limbs, walkways, and downed power lines follow. Freezing rain in many cases also causes hazardous conditions on the road. Ice storms shouldn’t cause all these damages if a state is prepared for disasters. But in Tennessee with poor disaster preparedness, there are no equipment and resources to handle such storms. So each time there’s an ice storm in Tennessee, residents must patiently wait for temperatures to warm up, enough for the icy surfaces to melt. At times, the waiting period may last for up to a week before the roads become safe for travel.
9. Weak Gun Laws
Tennessee has lax regulations on firearms; so weak. The use of guns and light arms is almost unregulated in the state. It’s all too easy for anyone to obtain a gun in Tennessee. No training is required before you can own your gun. Once you have the means, you do not have to go through any verification process before you can carry a gun. All this means that criminals will find it easier to get their hands on guns. Armed with guns in an unregulated environment, they have the most powerful incentive to perpetrate all sorts of crimes that appeal to them. This explains the higher rates of violent crime across Tennessee. The challenge is even more pronounced in big cities like Memphis and Nashville with high rates of gun violence.
8. Tornadoes
Tornado activities have made Tennessee a dangerous state to live in. Do you remember a tornado that hit Nashville on March 2, 2020? On that inauspicious night, nearly 30 lives were lost while hundreds of people were injured. The areas in the southern United States that are particularly vulnerable to tornadoes are called “Dixie Alley” and Tennessee is part of the area described by that phrase. The rotating air columns that hit the ground have caused a lot of damage in the state with the powerful thunderstorms they’re associated with. Since the last 5 years, Tennessee has been recording more than 30 tornadoes annually on average. Not long ago, the eastern region of the state had 82 tornadoes over a period of just three years.
