Ain't that the truth. I had to replace my transmission and other maintenance. Can't wait to change my rear end gears or transmission. Manual swapped 🔥🔥🔥

I've been driving Panther cars for over 30 years. Though most of them have been Mercury Grand Marquis. I prefer the Grand Marquis more comfortable ride, and 2.73 rear axle, which not only allows it to get 30 mph on the highway, but makes the engine and transmission last longer, because they run slower at any given road speed than the lower geared P71. I was a government fleet services mechanic for 41 years, and discovered just how reliable and comfortable the Panther cars were. They were by far the most reliable cars we had in the fleet, along with the 1977-1990 Chevy Caprice, but they are very hard to find. Up until recently, Panther cars have been cheap and plentiful. The supply seems to be dwindling, and the price on nice ones is going up. I currently have three Grand Marquis, a 2004, a 2006, and a 2007. Enough to get me through the rest of my life, considering parts are still readily available.

The reason they are dwindling is people like Cleetus McFarland wrecking them. He has about 40 of them on his lot. They race and wreck them.

Great vehicle. Starter is a bitch a hobby diy guy. No snow tires make up for the weight balance and rwd. it just sucks in those conditions. cops agree. otherwise despite the extra gas bill, a car like no other.

The Trans issue is caused when the thermostat in the Trans randomly sticks shut and causes it to overheat. Instead of stopping immediately and calling for a tow, people keep driving the (slipping) overheated Trans until it is ruined. You can buy a Scan Gauge to monitor the Trans temp or put in a Hayden 403 and bypass the original cooler, now with no thermostat.

Here are five reasons: It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

2004+ up P71’s are rated at 250 horsepower and about 297ft lbs torque. Single exhaust civilian models are about 239ish. Not that it makes a huge difference. Lol love these cars man, great video.

I have a 2004 CrownVic LX with 124,700 kms. (77,500 mls.). Not quite mint shape, but close and very clean with excellent paint and interior. Great car! I beefed up the front sway bar and added a rear bar, has 17x8 XXR 555 alloy wheels w. 235/55R17 Michelin Pilot Sport A3+ tires and Stainless Works dual exhaust. Also has a chromed honeycomb police grille. Love this car compared to the over complicated vehicles of today.

I hit a metal wheelbarrow laying on I-95 after the guy in front of me swerved at the last minute. I had to take the lick, I had a car on both sides of me. It hit it at about 80mph. The sun was just barely coming up. Drug it probably a 1/8 of a mile before I could get over and stopped. Knocked loose my bumper cover and bent the bottom of my radiator...which never leaked a drop. Was able to get it out from under my 05 Interceptor and drive off. Wish I had a push bar, then I would of had No damage. They are tough tough.

Great video! It's great to see a regular dude enjoying the basic P71. Driving that tank feeling is great in southern California cities, but the drivers or so bad now and psychotic, it's like they don't care about crashes, themselves or others. Ironically, I hate driving mine in the city. I drive it in the country where I live. Great on mild dirt roads.... Thanks for the video!

I will say the one negative I found after driving these for a LONG time. (My first car was an 87 GM, then a 90 TC, then a 99 CV, then my first new 04 Sport, then an 06 P71, then a 08 GM. I still have two of those, and I put at least a quarter million miles on them total). This point might no longer apply since few have them since new, and few keep them as new. The first few years of owning my Sport was a pain to get it riding like brand new. First 4-5 years no issues at all. Then the little things. A mild vibration. Kept replacing bearings to get that perfect ride. Was under warranty. Then the AC system which is a failure point due to the rusting tank and bad bearings on the compressor. Again, not big issues now but back around 10 years old, it was a thing I kept replacing. The other issue now, is value with insurance. I couldnt insure mine as a classic, but they wanted to total it for just 5k in damage on a Sport. At the time, they were still going for 25k-30k for clean ones like mine. It took me a while to just get started on working on mine, which revealed their big issue, and thats rust. The frames dont rust, the body ont he civies dont rust bad, but the engine does. I dont have a casting number anymore. I even wonder how thick the block is from all the rust lol. The hardware also likes to rust. I bought a parts car just for the small nuts and bolts under the hood. Yes, I still have that thing of wanting it perfect. BUT, the good thing is, that if you tolerate a bit of vibration, or that annoying little rattle, it will run that way for 200k miles without worrying. They are low tolerance cars, they can run and be fixed with bubble gum and bailing wire (dont though!). I still love these, and would have bought another new one instead. The closest thing to the Crown Vic today (well not anymore) is a Challenger or Charger (more the Challie because of the styling). Sorry for making you read so much lol TLDR: Im a boomer perfectionist, love the Panthers

The only thing that sucks about p71s is the fact that they've (mostly) been beat on their whole lives, that and they can be haunted so there's that (nice bong btw)

I put after market neoprene sway bar bushings on mine, and it handles a lot better. Put a drop in K&N air filter, change the oil every 3000 miles, use a Wix filter. And change your rear end lube and put a new breathe hose on it also. Maintenance will keep it going.....

Try out ADTR for almost anything you could upgrade. I didn't have the scratch for their Heinous or Metco rear control arms, but CHE Performance makes tubular steel ones as well. With those, side hop from bumps/tracks/potholes in corners is simply gone. Next I'm putting in ADTR's Watts link stud and CHE's Watts links and Bilstein shocks. My '00 Grand Marquis is far too comfortable to not try to make it last as long as gas and parts are available.

I daily drive a p71 100 miles everyday it’s great only gas isn’t the best but could be worse it’s got the right amount of power to merge and very comfortable besides the normal maintenance like intake and valve cover gaskets and oil changes not a bad car cheap to fix as well

Swap out the rear axle with one from a Mercury Grand Marquis with the 2.73 gears. You will get better mileage, and the car will run smoother and quieter at highway speeds.

I got a 2010 crown Vic when I got it it had 130xx miles give or take and paid 2400 for it. Sadly my transmission gave out last week. Luckily I was able to find one for 500 at the junk yard. I didn't want to run my chances on a rebuild. The car still had 1st gear and 2ns gear so I was still able to get around just had to take back streets. The car is overall a champ. Funny thing is I used to drive a Cadillac and it does feel like it .😂 Besides being stock I just got an aftermarket radio and two 15's in the back that's it.

They used to serve as police cars way before this models. I used to have one built in 1987 with the 5.0 ford 302 engine. With 200k it was still running strong and the ride was very comfy . Then I switched to 1995 Chevy Caprice - another one very good riding full frame car. Too bad they don’t make such a cars anymore

-I had the trans blow up on me, made it home in third gear (no OD) and home was about 1200km away, I ended up manual swapping it. Solved the poorly equipped 4r75w that came stock with the later P71's -The safety thing is big, for anyone looking for a first car, Highly recommend, along with the cost factor, most P71's have very tame driver aids, such as traction control. Any new driver should learn how to properly handle a vehicle without all the bells and whistles. - I disagree with Cleetus buying up all the Vics he can ( I know, I would love to be able to) because it basically deletes the probability of being able to pick one of these cars up at auction for less that a thousand bucks. Even the auctions far from where he's located have outsourced all of there CV sales to dealers that mark them up now because they've been made sorta famous by guy's like Cleetus.

The crown vics dont have that great of side impact ratings i will say. But if you hit something head on or get hit in the back it holds up great. But with the body on frame design you can get in a pretty bad wreck and not total the vehicle. Just replace the sheet metal and carry on.

You got the wrong attitude bro. I love and appreciate crown Vics but it’s still just a car. They aren’t a race of people, it’s not puppies he’s destroying it’s inanimate objects. It’s a flawed way of thinking to say “anyone who thinks X should do Y” everyone is entertained by different things and if you don’t like watching crown Vic’s entertain millions of people and become even more popular than they ever have before make people on the internet famous and get more people into racing and working on cars… then don’t watch it. But I would go as far as to say it seems like YOU are the one who doesn’t appreciate the cars. How about this, anyone who loves cars should respect what any fellow car lover wants to do with their own stuff. Just enjoy it, or ignore it. Don’t spew off in some random comment section on KZbin. Better to remain silent and appear stupid than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.
